let us please not forget that the transmission range of GSM and CDMA are not the same. The propigation properties very greatly as well. CDMA transmits much farther, and has better elimination algorithms for bounce-back and multi-cast splitting that will allow the services to still work even in a diffinatively noisy enviroment. (noisy related to Signal to Noise Ratio) CDMA is less effected by Dirty signals.

Recent surveys done in the broadband sector have found that a huge majority of users (i dont remember the exact percent) will not pay for wifi access. Even more of them are opposed to usage based subscription models. I think carriers are going to need to rethink moving to a usage based subscription. While not wifi, I can't imagine the everyday user finds much difference between the two of them. IF they want mobile data ...

I get that Apple is trying to look forward to HTML5, but it seems to me that support for poorly running flash content with a push for a change to HTML5 as the new standard would be better served for a company that is known for great media functionality on their other devices. Embrace the old, and push the new. That way their device will allow users to play it if they choose, and when HTML5 becomes ...

This will most likely prove to be a very interesting technology. The question is will carriers lock these SIM modules out in their handsets to prevent the obvious widespread abuse that will likely insue.

That is exactly whey the CTIA has devided now, after the number of years that some type of booster equipment has been out, to try to get them banned. The larger carriers all have some form of Pico-Cell coverage, and the CTIA is fighting to make sure that all the revenues from this type of a device are comming from their carriers. Unfortunately these pico-cell products will not work for everyone. Internet coverage with a high ...

I can see this being good when they figure out how to do this within a 10 foot range of another device. They can build them into your cars, couches, chairs, etc and whenever you are near an enabled device you will start charging. This is a product that could be great for things like laptops and other internet connected equipment that has a high power drain. You can still be wirefree, and not worry about ...

although Tesla did this with MUCH MUCH larger equipment, that was not anywhere near portable. Electro-Magnetic Fields of this size have many adverse reactions to the human body. Not to mention the power loss between the source and the intended target is incredible! Once they figure those out we should be able to find devices that would charge at a reasonable rage (such as 5-10 feet.)

Verizon files quartly reports just like every other corporation. Im sure the reports will break down the categories similar to a profit and loss statement. That should give you a general overview of cost to company, vs revenue. Remember the company has to cover all costs on the services it provides.

I was just eluding to the fact, that $30 per device is still not as great of a margin as it is made to appear. People look at it as $30 that they pay that costs the carrier nothing. It costs a ton. And yes they do make money on it, but its not an incredible amount per subscriber. As they add more subscribers the backhauls need to be upgraded again. And starts the ...

Data ----------- Cable companies are not a fair comparison. Every cable company in the United States used goverment money via the Broadband initiative. The initiative allowed for Fiber Optics to be layed across the country for Major, ILEC's wich they can tap. There was so much of this fiber laid(because its incredibly expensive) we are not even using 1/4 of the dark fiber available in the United States. The problem is the companies that participated in the ...

Most people forget that every single cellular tower needs to be connected back to a network operations center via an Internet backhaul. Think about the shear number of users on a single channel. Have you ever had 4 people conencted to a 5 Meg cable connection via wireless? Yet the same bottle neck happens in the cell towers. Only to fix it, they need to increase their number of transmitters, increase their backhaul, etc. ...

Sure it does. You just don't see it. Once a certain amount of damage is done to a brand by the customers getting what they think they need instead of what they really need, Verizon won't have a use for so many customer care reps because there won't be enough customers to support the need.

Consumer advocacy recomendations for the wireless industry are a joke. They don't take a customers full experience into account, really they just play into the price is everything mentality. Don't kid yourself. There are plenty of retail reps, and call center reps that don't a thing. I am indirect, have been for nearly 7 years.
