T-Mob Coverage in Cali.
Mar 29, 2007, 1:40 AM

Hey! Just wondering if anyone on here has some experience with how T-Mobile coverage is in the Sacramento, CA area and down into the bay area and north towards Reno... I'm thinking about switching my service providers after my current tour and hate jumping into 2 years without knowing what to expect.

I think most of you are missing the point...

The key to the arguement is this list when it comes to using your phone on a network it wasn't branded for. The handset is technically capable of working on other networks. An excellent example fo this is a Sprint phone with total roaming access on Alltel's network including EVDO. Its the same signal and whatnot, just a different company owns the alternate system. The ESN bank is something completely different. Its just a record ...

Where do you get your $5 from? Its $10 for the entry level package and with the way textmessaging goes on that phone I'll spend more than I should have to for less than a hundred a month. Verizon's text plans suck unless you're "in". For what's its worth, it all sucks. The phone isn't mine, its my girlfriend's and they want off Verizon because they're paying 25% more than they would be any other ...

Verizon Pay-Per-Text Rate going up!
Jan 27, 2007, 3:29 PM
in the Verizon forum

Story: http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04 /2007/01/verizon_text.html So, theoretically, this would mean that just as in the case of Sprint, if you are texting under the pay-per-text (no plan) then you can cancel your contract due to Verizon breaching via material change in rates?

Except that RL doesnt use its owns radio band!! The IDEN PTT service runs off its own frequency, meaning in theory that even if the rest of the voice and data portion of a Nextel tower were to go down, the PTT service can operate standalone. The RL PTT system along with every other system is VOIP, meaning it sends it over the data portion of the line. So a triMODE (not Tri band... Oi) phone ...

Re: Which is better CDMA or GSM???

Not to totally attack GSM, but GSM truely is toast. Saying that EDGE/UMTS were meant to work together is like saying that a GSM/CDMA(EVDO) handset was meant for it. Yes, it can talk to both networks,. but its two networks. When Verizon or Sprint rolls out EV-DO its over their network, the old handsets will work on the new network. When Cingular or T-Mobile or any other GSM carrier loads up their UMTS network the ...

It isn't really a any carrier's duty or responsibility to build their network for charity or the humanity of it. The fact is that 10 years ago this wasn't an issue because cell phones weren't nearly as big and the Kim's tragic incident would be just that, a tragic incident. Its no one's fault that they didn't get coverage because they were trapped miles away from any populous of any kind. A cell carrier is going ...

Sorry, I must be a bit late, but isn't MySpace a little bit over commercialized to be cool or is it still growing strong? I might just be jaded because I graduated from highschool and dumped MySpace after watching 10 friendships ruined from rumors on the site. At any rate, it just seems like Cingular is a little late with Helio there. How does this jive with the deal between Helio and MySpace?

Sprint is in the process of merging the two account maintainence and billing systems, once that's done we're supposed to be able to. But to answer the question, at this point in time, the hybrid is for Nextel accounts so you'd have to wwait until the merge is done.

in the Motorola ic502 Buzz forum

For the time being, its an iDEN device as far as Sprint is concerned, so you have to have an Nextel account to get it. Depending on the plan you're on, you can just leave the PTT as a pay-per-use feature and just use the phone part. The Nextel plans are for all intents and purposes exactly the same as Sprint's, so I don't see why you couldn't use it without the PTT.

I don't think it has to do so much with profitability as it does focus. CDMA and GSM need different research teams and rescources so if you can focus on one then you can shift your rescources from one to the other. If it wasn't profitable, then we won't have nearly the number of handsets that we currently do through CDMA providers.

Sprint just reported the highest data RPU (10% i believe) last quarter according to RCR, if I read it right. Regardless, Sprint still hold the highest RPU, period. That means while Verizon has a larger budget (with millions more subscribers I should hope so), Sprint is making a higher ammount per subscriber.

Oi... JD Power just did a survey about a month ago on Cingular and went clearly against Cingular's "fewest dropped calls" claim. The Telephia study was limited to certain areas and didn't take the nation as a whole into account, making a nationwide claim based on the study more than just simple puffery like it is in the Sprint claim. As far as the final sentence in there, its not "illegal" to make claim like Sprint, Cingular, T-Mobile ...

T-Mobile wouldn't gain a whole lot by aquiring Sprint seeing as the companies would be forced into redundant technologies (data and voice), whereas at least with the Nextel acquisition they gained the Direct Connect niche and a buttload of needed spectrum.

So far as I know, the Windows Mobile is stored in the firmware on the phone, not in the memory (correct me if I'm wrong), so its not the same as your computer where the OS information is readily avalible to be over written. To make matters worse, I don't know of a stable linux platform avalible for the 6700 anyway.

You're ignoring every part of Nextel's post that's positive. Sprint is on track for their goal of being a data oriented company. The technology was named in the first post and by focusing only on one aspect of Sprint's business plan you're making very generic statements about a company's performance. Duh, everyone already knows that prepaid isn't all that profitable, stop repeating yourself, it just sounds silly. But data on the other hand is very profitable because ...

And you used the word we at the end. Go study a business class or two and reply intellegently. Its all about data in the future, voice calls in wireless are going to go VOIP just like they are right now in wireline. Its still way better than the other carriers for the reason being is that you only need to talk for 11 minutes before you break below that $.45 mark. The same 11 minutes cost you $5 anyway, and with the flexible you have another 19 minutes that you paid for whereas the other carriers are still charging you for them. Hate to break the bubble here, but the i730 is a Nextel phone, meaning it runs off of the iDEN network, not CDMA. But the issue isn't wether someone can take the phone or not, its whether it will work once you steal it. GSM requires relatively no "hacking" of any kind. The IMEI isn't broadcasted to the network, only the SIM info. IDEN phones are the generally same way.

The answer you're wanting isn't going to be in the price of the phone, but in your customer loyalty for resigning! As far as the phone itself, it normally costs $449 with your upgrade, so I'd take the extra $200 off if you MUST have it and snag a MRC discount while you're at it. And for the $49 ebay thing, there is a difference between a phone and a phone that's "like it". If you don't need ...
