Re: Great News for Prepaid users
The only issue I could see is the data plan. With AT&T you have to have a specific data plan to get the browser to work. Same with Blackberry. If there is no prepaid equivilent then you are stuck with voice and SMS.
Re: parents
You obviously don't have kids. Because Kids ALWAYS do what their parents say. 8)
Re: "Not a merger"
I doubt they'd be looking for acquisition - at least not unless Sprint declined even farther. Everyone noted how - uh - successful the merging of two totally different techonologies was for Spring and Nextel. I doubt anyone will be doing that again - not unless the price was right.

If that's the case..... MONOPOLY!!!
I am really scared about the direction that the cell phone market is taking towards monopoly or oligopoly. I wonder what the Congress should think about this.....
Congress will think whatever the industry lobbyists tell them to think, while shaking their hands and accepting the large donations to their next election campaign :P

There is no reason whatsoever, if I provide a phone on my own that I need to sign any contract. If I do wish to get s subsidized phone, then use, 1 or 2 years and an ETF is in order.
I agree here. But having worked for Cingular/AT&T I also know that if you want the free M2M, early N/W, or any other spiffy thing for free that it requires a service agreement. Most customers don't ...

Lord Voldemort has an LTE network???
Yes, he and Lord Vader have been building it out in secret since the first LTE network was destroyed by rebel insurgents. When the time comes it will CRUSH their oponents pitiful network ;)
Re: But will we see this in the US?
Forget Cell phones - if the process actually works, think of the other possible applications for this! I can see them leasing this for the manufacture of other products that would benefit from being made with or having titanium parts.
Re: Do we really need this?
I suspect it's a little from column A and a little from column B ;)
Re: dont do this :(
More importantly, whatever it is will hold until you can call them when you land. If it won't hold then you probably shoudln't be on the plane anyway.
Re: Not Greed
If I call my carrier and ask for all SMS to be blocked they had better have a way to block it. I have talked to numerous customers who ARE taking responsibility for their phones by blocking thier son/daughter/wife/husband's ability to use text messaging. That is what I'm getting at.
If a customer is suing because they did something stupid and are now recieving tons of SMS and expect the carrier to pay for it, well I oppose that. ...
Re: Not Greed
I can't speak for the other carriers, but AT&T has a specific code that blocks all SMS - but still allows administrative SMS to come in (PLM UPdates, Voicemail indicators, * services). I can't see how difficult it would be for T-mob to set this up.
I do agree that a little personal responsibility needs to be in there as well - especially if they did sign up for those "free ringtones" or "hot sexy singles" or whatever they saw ...

Give us time - the year is still young
Re: YESSSS
Maybe you could be more careful with your phone and not need to send it in so often
Re: good for moto
Maybe the new CEO will insist in something that is not a derivative of the RAZR - perhaps an actual new design. A pipe dream I'm sure - but one can always hope! :D
Re: wow
We'll see how many early adopters there are with this product - or how many people wait a minimum of 60 days to see if the price drops 1/3.
Re: NEW WORLD ORDER
Didn't AT&T purchase Aloha Net or somthing - that had a lot of 700 MHZ specrum all over the US?
Re: Anyone care to explain for Verizon?
The two companies in question might not be "little" but they are in the wireless world. They have 0 towers, 0 infrastructure, and Apple has 1 phone. They are going to have to build out - from scratch - or somehow lease existing equipment to get a cell service going (if that is indeed the plan for either).
The big 4 all have established networks that are (at least in theory) expanding and being upgraded - a HUGE advantage over ...
Re: Mixed feelings about patent lawsuits (Then more direct at NTP and their suit)
Getting rid of patents would open a whole new world of industrial espionage.
Reform would be good - and i like the idea of having to actively try to produce/market YOUR patent(s) else you should have to sell them to a company that does. Patents should also be a bit less vague - it should be explicet(sp) as to exactly what the patent is for. But I guess that's just me - and my obvious lack of knowledge of ...
Re: Mixed feelings about patent lawsuits (Then more direct at NTP and their suit)
My gut feeling is NTP knows that it's patent camping days are numbered (as the Judge is reviewing it's patents) and is trying to get it's last big score before it actually has to work for a living. Once the patents are ruled invalid NTP will more than likely fade away (one could hope/wish) with it's $600M plus from RIM.
Re: You *******!!!
Just remember - ATT means At This Time.
Re: Wouldn't that be kind of a disaster?
I would think that buying the spectrum would take time, and time to figure out how they would deploy service. Probably around the time they ready to launch the exclusive agreement with AT&T would near be over - and they could launch iService -or whatever they would call it. I could be wrong - and probably am ;)
I would think Jobs would want to build out his own towers instead of leasing or renting them from others. He'll ...
Battery Life
Ok, that sounds very spiffy and such, but how is that going to kill the battery life on the device?
Re: PIMP!!!
I can see corporations issuing this to employees - to find out if Johnson is in the office, sick, or at the golf course when should be in the office or called in sick
Re: Where would the line be drawn?
If other carriers start doing it, they might lay off 90 % of their CS staff, and outsource the rest of the 10% to India. I can imagine two calls in a 12 month period being considered problematic...
That might help cutting down on customers calling in. I HATE having to call any customer service that is outsourced to Inida/Pakistan/ whatever because i can't undertand them, and they can barely understand the scripts they are forced to read. I've ...
Re: 14 days to return instead of 30
That's Apple's policy as far as I know, not at&t. Apple is handling most of the distro for the device, including selling it at their stores.
Anyone with an iPod or iMac have any info on if this is Apples SOP or somthing new?
Re: Wording
I'm sure that "one tenth the space" reads a bit less dramatically then "ten times less space" :D
Re: now what?
I disagree, I have used both devices extensively as I support them and the E62 and 9300 are POS - neither functioning as well as advertised. They are the most despised devices in Data Support
Re: now what?
I'm sure that it will. Considering you have to have a special plan for blackberry connect for Treo's and Nokias, it would only follow you would need on for the windows mobile devices.
I just hope they get it right this time as I HATE dealing with the 9300 and the E62 with BBC - the devices are POS with POS extra software to make it act like a blackberry.

Can you repost this again, and in English?
Re: should have given it to sprint
However, I have a tendency to do it more often than most :D
Re: should have given it to sprint
Touché! But at least you had an easier time reading my post ;) Hopefully.
Re: should have given it to sprint
It's funny how any comment is ruined by the lack of punctuation, not to mention capitol letters.
Re: zzzzz sprint
Or we could go with a company that provides great coverage where I live. Which is what we did.
Re: zzzzz sprint
My wife and I left Sprint because they had poor quality in Austin TX. I mean it was hit and miss - and our house was right inbetween two towers - but not actually in coverage. We could see the map and our area - and if we stood on one foot and wiggled our fingers we might have gotten coverage. Bah. I'll never go back.
Re: comcast i hope is next
I hope you don't plan to go overseas and take your phone then.
Re: screw 3G
WHah, buy a REAL digital camera. It's a freakin' cell phone for goodness sake.
Re: Cheese with that whine for $500 Alex!!!
If it meets their business needs, why woudln't they?
Re: So...what does it mean exactly?
It means jack to a normal cingular employee who will not see any increase or bonus in their paycheck. I'm sure that all the higher ups will be having a nice fat bonus however.
Re: Cingular 4th quarter results
True, but remember ATTW and cingular both used the same technology. I doubt it was THAT hard to merge everything. Spring and Nextel are two totally differnet networks - and we see the results.
