Re: HTC Inspire vs. Motorola Atrix: AT&T's current Android 2.2 4G choices - which is preferred?
Mar 2, 2011, 9:37 AM

my wife and I just switched to ATT and I got the Atrix and she got the Inspire. so far, both are great. both are fast, both make good calls, both are solidly built. it is more a case of which do you like better. yes the Atrix has more headroom due to the dual core cpu and more ram, but the inspire is about the top of the line of single core andriods. my wife wanted the bigger screen ...

$300 (bundled) or $500 (unbundled) for a keyboard and display? I can buy a full up netbook with equivalent display for $250 and have a much more capable device. if I'm going to haul along a laptop sized device, I might as well have a full pc. not to mention the unbelievable oversight of not putting the phone dock where the touchpad is. $140 for a powered USB hub and HDMI passthrough? I can buy the hub for ...

thanks for the feedback. what I'm really hoping for (for me) is a Droid X world edition. wrt international use, canada (I know non-world phones will work there), europe. OTOH, I could just pick up a cheap europe only "burner" phone for when I'm there. really wish verizon would get something like the defy. my wife's current phone is the gz'one and it has really held up to her destructive nature.(after ruining 2 lg8100s, an 8350 and an audiovox 9900 ...

won't be eligible for NE2 and discounts till january. I have decided for sure I want to get android phones for both myself and my wife. not really interested in the VZ iPhone however, our needs are slightly different. for me I want a big screen (4.3), fastest possible CPU, wifi hotspot and world phone capability, but no phys keyboard for her, I need shockproof/waterproof/max durability (she has a tendency to dropkick phones into puddles) so... is there going to be an upgraded ...

smart phone doesn't _need_ data plan

unless you want to use it for network applications like email, web surfing etc. I recently got the HTC Vogue (Verizon XV6900) smartphone, partly because it was on sale for $59. but I did not add a data plan, because I don't intend to use any network/web based applications at this time. if I want to add those features later, I can, but for now, I just have a phone with more features and access to third party software.

yes. the long and short of that is that will cost $35/month for her service and result in us losing unlimited nights, weekends and mobile to mobile (+canada cuts those to 1000 mins combined between nights, weekends and mobile to mobile). also any txt message she sends from canada to the states will cost $0.20 regardless of txting plan. she can get a pay as you go plan for as little $20 with 200 minutes and 500 txts...(she doesn't talk ...

my daughter is going to school in Vancouver next year. I would like to put her on a canadian pre-pay plan (going to handle calling home/US in general through skype) I would like, if possible to re-use her existing LG 8350 with the canadian provider to avoid having to buy yet another phone... can anybody tell me which canadian providers are CDMA?

they made a conscious choice to not support flash because: a: full flash support is a bloated, slow, bandwidth munching, insecure pig b: "mobile" flash is garbage. I am certain they were hoping to work with Adobe to make their mobile flash better, but Adobe seems incapable or uninterested, and so Apple has worked with most of the important websites to develop alternatives to flash. a straight cross-compile of Flash for the ARM/iPhone platform has already been ...

cheapest/best carrier for cross border family plan

I live in the US, My Daughter is planning on attending UBC in Vancouver, BC, Canada next year. we are trying to figure out a cell phone solution that is not going to bankrupt us. we would want ~700 shared mins, unl nights and weekends, unlimited text and some form of free calling within (at least) the members of the family plan. cheap data plans would be good too as we are considering smartphones/iphones. any advice would be welcome.

man, the iPhone + MobileME + App Store is so darn close to what I want. but not quite. for it to be right it must: 1. talk to external keyboards 2. drive (moderately) high res external displays (these could largely satisfied with a docking station or even better wireless docking station) 3. have ~64GB storage (32 would be ok) 4. have a MicroSD slot (or similar). 5. remote app storage with load on demand ...

oops, my bad, I did mention voyager, but....
Jan 30, 2008, 8:16 PM
in the Verizon forum

I was shopping PDA plans, and the cheapest PDA is the q9m for 150. the voyager isn't a PDA and so would use a phone plan. but the point I was trying to make is still valid, because the lowest number has quoted for a voyager with iPhone equivalent plan is $95/month, when combined with the $300 price of the voyager, the math is almost the same. break even on Phone after after 3 months, then save 35/month for the next 21 ...

yup, found the $99 plan, then picked the phone, then clicked next and was presented with service options (like insurance etc) and the 4th option down the page is $15/month for unlimited web. they _very_ carefully say unlimited email and text/pix/flix messaging and nothing about WEB until you get to the extras page. that's where I get the $15 surcharge. gosh, with an attitude like yourse, I wonder why I'm considering switching to ATT. I came here hoping for someone to convince me ...

Re: not troll, 7 year loyal verizon customer. why are fanbois so insulting?
Jan 30, 2008, 7:57 PM

because all the PDA plans that you find when you "shop for plans" include unlimited messaging and email. the national service plans start at 99. I'm coming at this as a customer, not an insider with detailed knowledge of how to game the system to get the best rates (I find it borderline criminal the way _all_ cell phone companies screw people over like that). I only know about the program options the web site presents me with. I don't care ...

Re: um?
Jan 30, 2008, 3:44 PM

look at the PDA rate plans for national service. $99 for 450, text and email. $15 surcharge for web. $115 total. I'm not an ATT fanboi, I left them 7 years ago because of crappy signal in my town. the signal issue is no longer a problem where I live. if it is possible to get the rates you quote, verizon sure doesn't want it's customers to know about it, because it doesn't even present them as options.

Jan 30, 2008, 3:40 PM

and yes it is 115, it's a $15 a month surcharge for unlimited web on top of the $99 unlimited email and text. go to the website if you don't believe me. I don't really give a darn if the iPhone rates are "Special", what I care about is that at the end of the day, a PDA phone and rate plan end up being $55 X 19 months cheaper if I get an iPhone on ATT vs even the ...

hoy cow! $115 a month for the most basic PDA plan with "unlimited" data!?!?!?
Jan 30, 2008, 1:02 PM
in the Verizon forum

just went through the verizon website trying to do a cost comparison vs the most basic iPhone plan because when my current plan expires, I'm considering all my options. so the most basic "unlimited nationwide" pda plan with unlimited email, messaging and web, 450 minutes talk time, is $115 a month for 1 line. before taxes, surcharges and fees. (which is what I'd want if I got, say, a voyager (which also costs more than $150)). the equivalent iPhone plan ...

is "Premium" SMS not SPAM? sure seems so from the OP description. not only should the "premium" SMS block be free, it should be the default state. the only way you should ever receive "premium" SMS is if you opt-in in specifically and after being fully briefed in a non-BS non-marketroid manner by someone who does not stand to make money out of the deal.

audiovox cdm-9900. (rebadged toshiba 4050 i think) bulletproof, beautiful screen. my wife threw hers in the sink 3 times, each time I just poped out the battery, chucked it in the oven @ 120 for a few hours and all was good. still have both as spares (put 2.5 years on one, 3 on the other, still work perfectly, but I wanted the new choco and she wanted the 6800.)

Aug 3, 2007, 9:25 AM

is there any special set of mp3 bitrates that I need to use for mp3 ringtones for the chocolate (new one if it makes a difference) my understanding is that I clip ~30 secs from an mp3, rename it .qcp (to avoid verizon inline autoconversion) and email it to my phone. can I use 128bit? VBR? 160? stereo/mono? I was thinking of ripping the clips @64 to save space..

so you're telling me that I paid 100 for a phone, and 49 bucks for a music essentials kit that includes headphones for something that can't be made to play music quietly enough not to cause pain? honestly, I would be less surprised to find it couldn't play loud enough to be heard in a noisy room, I've never encountered a system that you couldn't turn the volume down on.

using the headphones from the music essentials kit (that plug into the data/charger port) the volume of music is painfully loud even at the lowest volume setting. none of my other headphones use a 2.5mm plug, so I can't use them and see if the headphone jack is quieter, besides, I would like to be able to use the headset feature of the music essentials headphones. is there some way to adjust the volume range so that I can use these ...
