Well I've since switched to Sprint and got the Fusic (woohoo!) and you can make your own backgrounds, but like you say, you can't use them directly from the memory card. You have to send them to your phone via SMS message.
Also, you can send MIDI files to the phone to be used as ringers, but this one I haven't figured out yet...I've sent a couple MIDs to the phone via SMS but when I try to play them ...

Eh, I think it was because it was plugged in to the charger at the time...does that sound right? I unplugged it and the volume was louder and it vibed when called.

Well, I'm a Sprint customer as of this afternoon. I have to say, after the insane shenanigans involved with just setting up an account at Cingular, T-Mobile or Verizon, I couldn't believe how fast I was in and out of the Sprint place.
However, I got me a Fusic and I'm a bit confused. I have the ringer volume set to High + Vibe and when I'm in the settings, it works fine. However, when a call comes in, ...

And THIS illustrates why we all have so much trouble choosing and being happy with a provider.
Yesterday, I talked to a guy I know who it turns out has Sprint. He lives in the Chicago suburbs, works in the city, and has had Sprint for four years because he claimes he's never had a dropped call and that his coversations sound great.
How crazy is it that he says that, meanwhile, you say that Sprint's call quality is not good ...

Haha well, you're close, but not quite.
I wasn't sure with T-Mobile if it was the phone or the service...the phone was that crazy Nokia 3650.

I'm trying to choose a new carrier. I'm currently using Cingular in the Chicago area with the Sony-Ericsson S710a phone. I like the phone but the voice quality stinks. A few other people I know with Cingular in this area also have not the greatest voice quality, and they have different phones.
I've used Verizon in the past (maybe five years ago?) and Nextel (up until last year) and ...
