of carriers trying to stick their grubby fingers into everyone else's business, literally. i would rather have my carrier focus on making their network rock than having them focus on all this stupid proprietary crap. this is like comcast or att trying to compete with google, just because they control the internet connection. dumb.

This is good to hear for both the phone community and the Linux community. Linux is an undeniably appealing option for small electronics because of its flexibility and non-existent cost. This will hopefully get more manufacturers on the boat with providing linux support for hardware. For phones, this is a step towards having some really cool new devices with lower costs, possible hackability, and uber-stable operation. good to see some big names behind it too.

i dunno, it seems like maybe access bought the software division of palm just so they could take a look at the source and use ideas and features from it - not the least of which is palm software compatibility - and integrated it into their Linux OS(which sounds awesome). However, when they finished with the code, palm obviously still wanted the software to remain in development for them to put on their devices. So I'm not sure who ...

i think it is stupid to ask for "free" stuff from wireless carriers. your car analogy is imperfect, because car dealers make a profit on the sale of the car. carriers don't make a profit on the sale of cell phones, and in fact usually sell them at a loss. all their profit comes from subscription fees. you are already getting "free" stuff and improved technology in the sense that your free phone now has a color ...

of all the possible features to have on a music phone, why whine about stereo speakers!?! as other posters said, it will be fine without them. of all the music phones out there, less and less of them are having stereo speakers, cuz the truth is it doesn't really make a noticeable difference and is actually just a marketing gimmick to make ppl think the sound is better. i would rather have them use 1 speaker so that ...

This is the first original, decent looking phone I have seen from sanyo. All previous ones have just looked like slight variations on their single, outdated design. With the exception of the Katana, which is too expensive for its lackluster features, besides being an obvious clone. Hopefully this phone marks a turnaround, so that Sanyos exclusive agreement with Sprint can actually start to HELP sprint.

I got to mess with a dummy phone - it just came in. I have to say I am unimpressed. The keypad annoys me because you can't "feel" where the buttons are, and no, it isn't thick on the bottom. I think this will be a difficult to use phone.

verizon is just trying to recoup some lost profits from people who won't have to replace broken phones. the only noteworthy technological feature of this phone is the 2 megapixel camera, but they would've done worlds better if they kept bluetooth. That was a bad decision. They already have the 2nd Gen. of this phone in Japan, though, so if this one does well, maybe we will get lucky with that one.

ok, to clarify my points, with news briefs taken from this very site. In October, Cingular announced that they would launch 3G by Nov. 1, 2005. Cingular launched with a laptop card reaching 1.8mpbs burst speeds on download and they announced "an upload speed of only 40-60 Kbps at launch, which is well below expectations". This was in fact on Dec. 6, 2005. Cingular announced it would have 3G handsets out by Jan. 1, 2006. It actually launched with these ...

or, just move to japan. there, this phone had cooler colors, bluetooth(i think) probably an mp3 player, and a sweet looking UI. unfortunately, we americans get none of it. and for that particular phone, there is actually no way in existence to get one of those phones here, because their CDMA basically operates "backwards" to ours. i just wish this phone had the 8500's or 8300's UI options. if verizon did that on every phone, I would like ...

I am really disappointed that this phone is neither red, green, or black. The original one looked so cool, and I was so stoked when I heard it was coming to verizon. However, the gray takes away all the cool factor, and now it just looks like a bland, massive, dorky phone.

the presence of this bill doesn't negate the presence of other, more important ones. on top of that, the reason congress fails to act on some of these matters has nothing to do with an excess of bills to talk about. congress could do something about all these problems, but they don't. i see what you are trying to say, but just because there are big problems elsewhere does not mean we should ignore smaller ones. if we thought ...

This doesn't seem that revolutionary. At least not when you look at the RAZR and Chocolate. It is a slider, made of metal. The only real difference I see between this and the chocolate is the material. Features are a moot point because they can change before the phone gets here. I think it will sell well, but I don't think it will be as impacting as other phones.

Seriously. Verizon has awesome marketing, awesome coverage, awesome phones now. Sure, there are some nice things about cingular, t-mobile, sprint, but I think Verizon is going to be #1 again if they keep this up. once that happens, cingular will probably try to find someone else to buy so they can keep saying their number one.

well, i personally think that both technologies could have their uses. the obvious advantage of having a bar code is that it could be displayed non-electronically, and it could be really inexpensive to operate. the problem, though, is that we are talking about things like ringtones, games, pictures, songs, and other stuff that will take up WAY more room than a small visual barcode could carry.
