The ones from walmart may not have an ignition delay in them, IE if you're jacked in when you turn the engine over, all kinds of wavy voltage spikes could find their way into your phone...
Most modern chargers have a cutout below X volts (IE when the starter engages) and then they wait say 500ms after voltage is back to normal before supplying juice...
If it's less than $15 it's suspect. If you buy it at a gas station ...

Both... Try a Plantronics or Motorola headset, and yes the bluetooth is quirky on the 8300 but just crap audio at times, the buttons normally work peachy...

They work, I have one for my extended txting/mobile-web days with my e815... AA batts are cheeeeeeeap at Advance Auto Parts (24 for $4.88) Also RadioSham sells a 40 pack for like 14.99 that last just a tad longer and are probably less likely to explode...

I just waltzed down to the cingular kiosk (cool guy) and asked him to use his phone to try to "send" him a picture, see if it works or not... well it did... then he tried sending me a pic, and it goddamn WORKED! Ringtone, WORKED. Video WORKED... HOLY CRAP!
