It's weird to think that a few years from now HP (the world's largest PC manufacturer) and Nokia (the world's largest mobile manufacturer) likely won't exist as we know them today. Well played, Apple.

Doesn't it matter what type of vehicle the engine is powering? ...

I actually already have an N8. And I do like the E7. But because I have an N8, I'd basically be paying for a keyboard, a larger screen and CBD. Those are all things I'd like to have but I'd only pay so much for them.

I'm an unabashed fan of Nokia and Symbian. But there is no way I'd pay $650 for this phone, especially since the N8 is going for $400.

Oh, pardon me. It would only give AT&T control of 99% of the GSM networks in the US. And yes, that is a fact. And it would only benefit large shareholders because that is where your money would go. This deal would mean that AT&T would have virtually no competition for GSM handsets (meaning there is no incentive to give good deals on them) or people who need phones that work internationally. Long term effect is that AT&T would not ...

Those are two pretty significant differences.

I can't. At least not in the role of a traditional carrier. I don't think that Google has any interest whatsoever in having to deal with things like monthly bills, credits for customer complaints, etc. The only way I could see Google getting involved is as a parent company where an intermediary handles all the day-to-day aspects of running a carrier. And Google would make it absolutely clear that it was strictly bankrolling the operation; all complaints ...

Going with AWS is actually a pretty smart idea (for both the NexusOne and the Nokia N900), although there is a high risk/reward factor. The phone isn't intended to be a mass market product (at least not yet) as much as it is meant to show the ultimate capabilities of Android. Because there are fewer customers on T-Mobile that actually use 3G, speed on the network is much less clogged...when you can access it.

I am intrigued by the N900 but I was waiting to see how much T-Mobile would sell it for on contract. I assumed that Nokia and T-Mobile already had something in place since T-Mo is the only carrier in the world that uses AWS 1700. Nokia is simply playing it safe with this first entry. It is using this to see how viable the market is, so it went with the OS that is most recognizable to the largest population.
