Re: Any More Updates? - Background Noise

A second update to the device software was released by Verizon in early December (v4.2; updated 11/19/2007). It appears to have improved the background noise problem to the point where I no longer get complaints from people on the other end. The 8830 is an amazing device. This is my first BB.

hwg00, I performed my own test to see if disabling "enhanced audio" made any difference. What I did was call my voice mail box at work with the 8830 and made sure I had music playing in the background. I did this with Enhanced audio enabled and then disabled. I then compared the two recordings using the phone on my desk at work. I feel that disabling enhanced audio was the way to go.

I just read the entire thread that you linked to in your post. As a result, I discovered that there is a setting in the phone application's options called "Enhanced Audio - Automatic Volume Control." I found that disabling automatic volume control made the call sound better IMO. BTW, a new version of the device software was released in August for the Verizon 8830, not sure if it helped with the noise issue, though. See ...

Re: Is anyone using this phone who has traveled to Switzerland and/or Italy?

in the BlackBerry 8830 forum

Just to clarify my earlier post, the SIM that I used while in Italy came with the phone. It was a Verizon card that worked with Vodaphone's network in Italy. I did not purchase the SIM abroad nor did I try to use a SIM other than the one provided by Verizon with my Global BlackBerry service.

I just came back from a 2-week trip to Italy. Getting the SIM card and inserting it is a no-brainer. The phone works seamlessly with the Vodaphone network in Italy. I found that call quality was disappointing the further I went south (Naples and surrounding countryside). I had no problems with the phone in Rome.

You can also set the 8830 to lock the keyboard automatically once holstered. Goto Options --> Security Options --> General Settings and set 'Lock Handheld Upon Holstering' to 'Yes.' Not sure what the difference is between locking keys and going into standby mode.

Motorola HT820 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones

in the Wireless Data forum

Why would Motorola showcase these headphones on their US site... http://direct.motorola.com/ens/BTS tereoHS_Web_FullSpecs.asp?country=USA&languag e=ENS ... when this applies?: "Stream music from your Bluetooth 1.1 or higher enabled mobile phone with Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) and Audio Video Remote Control Profile (AVRCP). (Currently the only Motorola mobile phone supporting these profiles is available in Asia.)" How many people are going to order these headphones before they realize they can't listen to music stored on their phone? Silly, just plain silly, I say.

Another solution is to follow the information posted here: http://bvrpforums.com/phpbb2/viewtopic .php?t=3242 Be sure to run Live Update so that you pull down the latest version beforehand.

Re: E815 - Earpiece speaker

I have found myself asking people that are calling me from a land line to repeat themselves because their audio is coming across as somewhat muffled or garbled. I'm using the phone in the spot I have used my V60s the most - in a very good reception area. I need a few more days with the E815 in other locations to be absolutely sure. I'm in a suburb of NYC.

I'm not complaining about the E815's incoming voice quality but in comparison to the V60s, Motorola took a slight step back IMO.

I have the same trouble with mPT and my E815. I have posted to the BVRP forums and am awaiting a response. I ran Live Update and pulled in an update and it still can't detect the phone (mPT v. 3.25b).

Weak vibe call alert
Jul 9, 2005, 9:35 AM
in the Motorola E815 / E816 Hollywood forum

Does anyone here feel that the E815 has a very weak vibe alert? I'm comparing it to a V60s. I can barely notice an incoming call when clipped to my belt. I have tried changing to the other vibe choices but I don't notice a difference. Any suggestions?

Re: Charging Port?
Jun 15, 2005, 10:43 AM
in the Motorola E815 / E816 Hollywood forum

My best guess as to why Motorola has not changed the charging port design is in response to customers like me. I spent over $300 on having the "professional install" kit put in my car back when I had the V60c several years ago. Now if Motorola decided to change their charging port design for all their phones, they would alienate customers like me. Granted, while the design doesn't work too well in a desktop charger ...

Re: Location of send/end keys

I'm referring to the V-series phones, specifically the V60c and up. I don't care about the other Motorola lines. From a usability standpoint, switching send/end keys around from one generation V60 to the next sucks. Period.

Location of send/end keys

Call me nuts but why in the world would Motorola swap the position of the send/end keys? If you're like me and have been a loyal Motorola user (StarTac, V60c, V60p, V60s), you have become accustomed to the send key being on the right side. Now they're switching it back!? What gives? I'm sure I'm not the only V60s user out there who is regularly re-keying phone numbers because we're used to a send key ...

v60s "no ring" problem
Oct 25, 2004, 1:33 PM
in the Motorola v60p / v60s forum

I have been using the workaround described on the 'net (see http://tinyurl.com/5qvd7) to prevent my v60s from going into "dead silent" mode. I was wondering if Motorola and Verizon have released updated software to correct this. My S/W Version is 8610_02.0F.02 and my PRL version is 50203. Should I be making a trip to my local VZW store? I am in downstate NY. Thanks.

Verizon Wireless has a "Mix Your Own" tool for creating your own custom ringtone. Not sure what phones it is compatible with. It looks like it only supports Nokia phones, but I can't be sure. http://www.vtext.com/ Select TXT Ringtones.

Re: CCM Desktop Station

My V60s just does not fit the way it should on an OEM-designed product, IMHO. The connector doesn't seem like it goes far enough into the phone and when I flip the phone open, the charger's housing prevents it from opening easily. For the price, it should be "a better fit." It may have something to do with the fact that this thing adapts for so many different phones. Mine just doesn't fit exactly right ...

Is there a fix yet for V60s "missed calls?"
Mar 28, 2004, 3:29 PM
in the Verizon forum

Has Mot/VZW released a firmware update to fix the problem with the V60s going completely silent? I am aware of the temporary "fix" whereby you set your key volume to anything other than 0. My S/W version is 8610_02.0F.02. Thanks.

Has anyone with a Motorola V60-series phone purchased this product? I have a V60s activated on Verizon and just purchased the OEM desktop charger and am appaled at the poor design of the unit. The CCM product looks great and I would welcome some feedback from people who own one. Here is a link to the Desktop Station in case you are wondering what it is: http://tinyurl.com/38d9x Rocco

Send/end key - what gives?
Feb 16, 2004, 1:08 PM
in the Motorola forum

Why does Motorola feel compelled to change the location of the send and end keys form model to model(left side vs. right side)? Switching from a typical left-side send button phone to a Motorola with a right-side send is a real pain. Is there a logical explanation for this?
