I can't find any information about whether the unlocked A20 will be universally compatible with all U.S. networks. Does anyone here know if this will be the case?

I like my Stylo 4, but I must say that I see absolutely no difference between it and the 5, from the screen size to the RAM to the processor.

While I enjoy and appreciate Phonescoop's coverage of upcoming devices, I must admit that I stopped reading at "no 3.5mm headphones jack." It is for this very reason that I'm using a Galaxy S9 instead of an iPhone 7, 8, X, or Xs; I'm not paying such an exorbitant amount in order for Apple (or now Google) to arbitrarily render useless every audio peripheral that I own.

All of these are valid points. I wonder how many people will buy a Pro 3 without realizing that it's incompatible with their carrier's LTE bands.
LeEco is competing on price; the Pro 3 has twice the storage at $250 less than the Pixel XL, and neither is expandable. With upstarts like Blu getting more attention lately, I'd wager that most people are willing to lose a little quality in order to save 250 clams.

Strange that you mention Apple; I left them at the same time that I left Verizon. Ditched my Verizon iPhone 5 for an AT&T Note 4, and so far things are spiffy.
Not that AT&T is any better, policy-wise, but they do have better coverage in my area. (And in a few days, rollover data!) :roll:

Lie Down Before You Hurt Yourself
If you read the Times article regarding the "tax increase," you'll see that what they're talking about is a 17.2% increase in the Federal Universal Service charges, NOT an equivalent increase in all the taxes on your bill.
For example, with three phones on contract with Verizon, I'm paying a total of $5.40 per month in Federal Universal Service charges. If this thing passes, and you know it will, I'm looking at an increase of $0.93 per month. Not ...
Bridge Data Packages
This is a minor thing, but Bridge Data packages are added on an as-needed basis, not on a per-month (recurring) basis as indicated in the report.

The only differences are that the Google Play Edition is the global GSM variant (it lacks AWS, but has UMTS 900 and 2100) and that it ships with KitKat.
The global GSM variant is also available from Motorola (along with the US GSM variant), but as far as I know both of them ship with 4.3.

These are all fine and fabulous additions, but if WP8 doesn't persistently display the time, signal strength, and battery indicator on every screen, I'm (still) not interested.
I'm pretty sure this is still a phone, isn't it? It says so in the nomenclature; Windows PHONE 8. So why does Microsoft do their damnedest to put as many layers of unnecessary interaction as possible between you and any essential phone-related information?

Technically, this is not true; ICS allows the notification shade to be pulled down from the lock screen for quick and easy access to...well, notifications. It's an obscure addition that not a lot of people know about.

...or you can pay T-Mobile $70, get the same unlimited talk and text, along with 5 GB of data, and use any phone in their lineup. Not a great deal here, unless Verizon is aiming this plan solely at the minuscule portion of the population that A) isn't covered by T-Mobile's footprint and B) wants to overpay for something they can get with Page Plus.

The $.99-per-day plan has not changed. It still offers M2M and $.10 for all other calls, plus $.10 for all text messages, exactly as it did before.
What's changed is the $1.99 plan, which used to offer M2M, N&W, and $.05 for all other calls, plus $.05 for all text messages. Now it offers unlimited calling all the time, plus $.02 for all texts. So how has the price for texts increased, as claimed in the news post?

I'm not trying to be glib, but from your post it doesn't seem like you're familiar with how the Hotspot@home feature works.
Hotspot doesn't require an additional phone to carry around per se; you buy a phone that's UMA-compatible, and it works on both the cell network and UMA networks. You buy one phone, and you're good all over the place, with seamless handoffs between networks.
