The Nokia 8801 is supposed to be titanium frame, and a reinforced screen, scratch resistant.

Palm OS is more stable, more simple, more apps available. Won't be long before Windows rules the mobile software market.

Just got my MDA yesterday. T-Zones is my ISP and it worked fine. My MDA is a T-Mobile branded MDA but I had a friend flash it with 02's software (supposedly it runs faster and has more available features, so that might be why my port isn't blocked...) and I use T-Zones with no problem. Everything seems to be working fine.

What phone are you using? Only a handful of Motorola's will play iTunes songs (unless converted - which is terribly hard.) You can run them through some programs that will lower the quality to maybe half of what you are running (making the file smaller), but they will sound awful.

This notion would ruin the entire industry. If done, it would destroy one of the largest industries of commerce in our nation. It's not going to happen. The entire industry is focused on the contract.

I'm not sure where you got the idea that the government owns towers. They do not. Either the individual carrier owns the tower or an "antenna aggregator" owns the tower and the various carriers pay the antenna aggregator to use the tower space. Carriers for the most part do no "piggy back" off each other and for the most part unless they are an MVNO have their own infrastructure. If a carrier does not serve a certain area they may ...

Steve5, it takes a bit... It's not a "quick snap" really. Probably 2 seconds total for the auto-focus to trigger and be effective.

Anyone had a chance to play with the GSM Chocolate or any of the Nokia N90's series? I own an N-90 (on my 2nd one actually), the camera is pretty quick. There are two ways to make quick snaps. 1. Pivot the lens without opening the phone. This will launch the outside screen into camera mode, and from here it's a single push of a button. But the button has to first be pressed in half-way (where ...

I think the US Governemnt ought to make as much money as it can off the industry and off overseeing it. Communication is a powerful tool. I was just considering how much money they were making and had some thoughts.

No, Cingular Wireless(GSM) does not have a digital roaming agreement with Alltel Wireless(CDMA). Heard it from Cingular directly. But the rep wasn't too knowledgable. He was asking me questions mostly about how their roaming works...

Thought Provoking Questions (U.S. Industry)
Nov 22, 2006, 9:05 PM
in the General forum

Hi, I'm relatively new to the Cellular Industry. I had a few questions about things. I was thinking about how most of the CDMA and GSM carriers "piggy-back" off of one-another and I was curious about something... Who is making the money? I was even thinking that the Government must make $$$ since they own the communications towers and (guessing here) lease them to the carriers to install there equipment on them? Plus, with all the "piggy-backing" who is really ...

I saw this on myworldphone.com, and was thinking about getting one. I've only ever used Nokia, but Motorola is domestic, and I was thinking about switching to this phone from an N90. Anyone have any advice? RAZR's are just too inexpensive now to ignore... Otherwise, I would get another N series for my fiancee (wife on 12.16.06!) Thanks, Michael

lol thanks StoreLead! iDEN is just the kind of TDMA network Nextel functions on? LBS was used in raycaroll70's post... "The majority of Sprint Nextel Inc.'s iDEN Motorola handsets are GPS enabled for use with LBS as well as quite a few of the Sanyos and Samsungs on the CDMA side of theirs. Telenav Navigator, Mobile Locator and Garmin Mobile are 3 applications used.
