What's funny is that everyone I know with VZW experiences drop calls, now I'm not saying either one is better or worse, etc. Yes VZW has a larger map due to a legacy standard they follow, but what I will find interesting is what's going to happen when VZW goes to LTE? It will be interesting, all I know is I travel the continental USA allot and through and through ATT has been there for me while VZW has ...

We will be on the elevator going to the basement to grab our car and head to lunch. We be speaking to our moms, I'm fine and continue talking to my mom all the way down and out the basement. My ...

This is more a decision to finally be in sync with 1 of it's parent company Vodafone. Vodafone has been pushing Verizon Wireless to move to GSM and now it's the perfect time, when you have to build a new infrastructure.

I travel with my ATT phone to all the countries I mentioned and I have never had an issue. I suggest you check GSMWorld, because I'm not sure where you got your information France is 900/1800 Japan is 3G 1700/2100 Sao Paulo is 900/1800 and 3G 850 Espana (Spain) is 900/1800 and 3G 2100 Chile is 1900 and 3G 1900 So all my ATT phones work fine in all the counties mentioned above. I think LTE is being forced on Verizon by Vodafone, they have been wanting to move Verizon to be able to directly compete with AT&T as an international carrier from the US and the CEO of Vodafone wants to be able to roam on the Verizon network when in the US and not onto the ATT or T-Mobile network.

You are correct CDMA is superior, but it's not a world standard. Unfortunately I can not take a Verizon/Sprint Phone and be in Paris tomorrow, Tokyo the next day, Sao Paolo for the weekend, and back home for Monday work. Who can ATT and T-Mobile. Well know that Vodafone (45% owner of Verizon) is forcing Verizon to have international phones, maybe they will move to GSM.

Now for me, I have had both at the sametime and had to abandon Verizon because I kept getting drop calls and no service in areas where I travel. Between NYC and North Carolina and Florida. Now that's not too say Verizon is the worst, but my experience has been that it's not functional for me.

1. WiMax and LTE are similar to each other, if you google them and read about them you can see how similar the technologies are. Also Engadget published an article. 2. It makes sense for ATT to throw a road block because the longer they can keep Sprint tangled the more time they have to get LTE out to the market to compete head to head with Sprint. 3. LTE is suppose to be used by many GSM carriers, while ...

Second, check the reception in your area for you carrier or the carrier that you would like to move to and above all don't forget it is important to understand that no carrier can guarantee service indoors, so it's a 50/50 chance. I think they will, there are still people who do not care about data access, all they want to do is make a phone call. Though the Blackberry 9000 look sweet, but supposedly the battery life sucks.

That's interesting, because all the test that I've read matching Rev A and HSPDA, HSPDA wins hands down. Rev A has a faster initial connection speed, but once both are running. HSPDA wins. Rev A averages about 800kbps while HSPDA averages about 1.1mbps. Other problems with Sprint it is not a world carrier, has ugly phones, and it does noy have the iPhone.

I did it and I am still on my old voice plan, still the same minutes (which they do not offer anymore) and I have the apple data plan. So I am not sure why you keep thinking that, you need to change the plan. Now the data plan needs to be an iPhone data plan, but voice has no issues.

Well I have experience Verizon Data Network dropping off due to mistakes or maintenance. Contact ATT and tell them you are having reception problems and maybe try swapping out the unit, it sounds defective. Do you have friends that got the iPhone, compare it with them and see what happens?

Actually I have better service with ATT then VZW. VZW we had dropped calls, could not grab a signal and had issues in buildings. Mind you I always buy expensive phones and nothing. I dought Verizon will take over Verizon is not even an international player, they can no longer compete without converting to GSM (An International Standard by the way). I left Verizon, because of poor customer service, cheap ugly phones, and bad service and I have never looked back. ATT has always been good to me and my family. There is no one of my family left on VZW and we have never looked back.

First get your facts right, Apple made the decission to run on EDGE to provide better battery life for their users, though they also give you Wi-Fi. Second Verizon is no longer the top of the heap. They've lost a very large market, and it's going to hurt them. Nothing they release will compete because people want the iPhone, they don't want the creative labs phones or the microsoft phone.

Actually, yes CDMA is faster then EDGE, but WCDMA and HSPDA are faster then EV-DO rev A, by almost double. WCDMA is loosely based on CDMA and that is why companies do not have to pay royalties to Qualcomm, unless the use the Qualcomm chipset. Also CDMA does not support simultaneous voice and data. Unfortunately CDMA is not the technology of the future. It's actually being phased out from many areas, Latin America that had 17 countries deployed, are migrating to ...

Well CDMA is superior to GSM it's just not the world standard. By the time CDMA was ready for deployment in 1995, Sprint started in 1996, the world had moved to GSM. So it came down to basics do we improve the GSM network or rip out what we have and move to CDMA. No one in the establish world was going to spend the money to deploy CDMA and maintain GSM to convert their users. Verizon ...

If your going to talk, please get your fact rights and understand what's going on. 1. Apple is controlling the deployment not ATT and therefore Apple had some decissions to make on how they handle it. 2. Apple has decided on the restocking fee not ATT. 3. Apple is treating this as another iPod. 4. ATT is only providing the Network not providing the phones. Read and understand before talking and providing users with wrong infromation.

You know that question is really based on what your needs are and if you know what to expect from the device. You need to do your research before walking in and buying the device, but think of it as a 2GB shuffle, 1GB for the OS and 4GB for video/movies, and 1GB for files. If that works for you, then also think about the PDA functions and see if it fits your needs.

Some customers are having problems with their iPhone Activation, here is some help. 1. The activation process doesn't always remove the existing data plan, so you might have to call in and have them remove the old data plan. 2. If you have a foundation account, you might need them to remove the foundation bonuses, before the activation can move forward. I called in and did this and my phone was activated in two and 1/2 hours. The only problem was ...

Correction WCDMA is not a true extension of CDMA and that's why cellphone companies are paying less royalty to Qualcomm. Again Correction HSPDA is slated at 6MPS download why Rev 1 is slated at it's technical limit of 3.6MPS. The reality is EV-DO does not allow for Voice and Data to interact together, in other words if you are talking you can not surf the web, while WCDMA and HSPDA do allow it. So you can love it all you want, your ...

Look Apple made a smart call, they wanted a world phone and Sprint and Verizon do not have World Service. Unfortunately Verizon and Sprint are not worth the deployment of any phone when you want to think internationally. While I do agree 3G would have been better, let's look at this realistically, both Apple and RIM are looking to give the users the most battery life possible. Currently deploying 3G handsets put them in the same space as ...

Apr 9, 2007, 11:25 AM

Correct Verizon Latin America is switching to GSM bandwidth, not Verizon North America. Verizon North America sold off the Latin America division because it wanted to focus on it's North American offerings. Actually WCDMA is not necessarily close to CDMA or GSM, that is why some manufactures are complaining about paying fees to Qualcomm, that it should be much less then CDMA since WCDMA is not closely related to CMDA.
