Phone for USA, Japan, and Korea
I'm in Korea 3-4X per year and have always rented a phone at the airport. I believe Korea is CDMA, so my AT&T quad band GSM does not work and thus I cannot even retain my phone # with my SIM.
My AT&T contract is up and I've determined that Verizon seems to be the best choice with a Blackberry 8830 which does support CDMA. The store salesman claims it will work in Korea and suggests their 30 day ...

This is probably a dumb question, so excuse me for asking... Does this mean that GSM handsets are not "locked"? I am a current AT&T customer and looking at all my options.
Time to upgrade and need help...
Here are priorities:
#1 Excellent call quality and signal strength.
#2 Quad band for international travel.
#3 Fast, easy texting. (Qwerty would be nice)
#4 Excellent battery life.
#5 No need for data plan, only call/text.
#6 Camera not necessary.
#7 Smallish form factor.
#8 Simple is good.
I'm intrigued by the TMobile G1 which is not out yet as it looks to be a simple phone with qwerty keyboard. However, I've been loyal to AT&T and have had good success travelling with their network.

I'll probably stay with Cingular since service has not been an issue for me. I am mainly looking for a phone that I can transfer my SIM card to that will better fulfill my needs. I rented a phone last week to take to China and paid $8/day + $2.29/minute with Cingular. (used my SIM) I know there are better rates ($1.50/min.) but I don't use that many minutes overseas. I am a Cingular customer using a 2 year old LG. I am tired of using my Palm Tungsten E for phone contacts that I have failed to input to my phone. Here are my requirements in order of priority:
#1 Want bullet-proof phone (signal strength and call quality!)
#2 Want to be able to import my Palm Tungsten E contact data. (use Apple Powerbook)
#3 Quad Band nice as I travel to Europe and Asia.
#4 Camera
