Your title is problably much more direct. I just went for subtle because I didn't know if it was a good idea to spread the word or not. I figure that despite how cool it is someone is going to complain that even though you can set ringtones and ringer ID's you can't do alerts yet. Eventually that will get figured out.

I have found that as my call memory fills up the phone is slower. I deleted my call history and the phone went much faster. seems it might have some ram sharing issues. I delete it from time to time when things seem slow. Helps.

I'm pretty sure it's some kind of switch in the program name or the extension. It's not cost effective to invent a new format or codec for ringtones if at this point they have to force people to use them.
I'm considering buying a ring tone just to see how they work. The trouble is that I have zero interest in hearing some other artist on my phone.

Sorry but you need to take a closer look. I just did it on my 970. Set the res to 320x240 or picture ID and you can zoom to 12x. You have to scroll down through 800x600 and such.

I am completely speculating here but I think there is a special extension for ringtones on this phone.
You can record a qcp file as a voice memo and this should be a valid ringtone format as should mid but the phone will not play them as ringtones. You can move a qcp file to the card but there is nothing you can do with it from there within the phone. Can you even play these on a computer?

I can see no reason why not but you would need an adaptor to go from 2.5mm tip-ring-ring-sleeve to 3.5mm TRS. Not sure if you can buy that or not. My XM radio has an aux input that I have been thinking abou using in the same way.

Reading the sprint feature list is humbling. The memory card is only 16 megs. Not very useful. It could hold a few pictures I suppose.
The 10x zoom is pretty marginal to me but the printer support, data cable and bluetooth is a real stinger. I wonder if the interface is faster.

As far as I can tell it seems to play them back as is. The tiny little speakers might only be able to reproduce a frequency range equal to 64bit. With headphones it sounds like I would expect a 128k or 160k mp3 to sound. I haven't tried a higher bitrate than that.
Drivers aren't available yet as far as I have seen. There was a link to some on this site or HOFO but they didn't work for those ...

My phone comes up with the still camera first. at a kiosk you can never tell what someone has done. I have not found a way to get the video camera function to be the default. depending on what camera options you have set the delay can very. AF seems to take longer. Since it was a kiosk demo it is hard to judge the normal operation of the phone.

Up to over 1 hour nonstop (there is also a pause during recording feature) on the phone memory. Much, much more if you use the card memory.

I forgot to add that I can also open the phone with one hand AND without touching the screen! :)
Furthermore, the 90 degree position is great for listening to mp3s. I can set it on the desk and point it directly at myself.

When I shut down my 970 it has an amazing animation with sound effects. It's so cool I shut it off sometimes when I'm bored and then I cry tears of joy!

Do you have AF turned on? If so are you pressing to the first detent on the camera button? It also has a couple different metering modes that might have some influence on the auto focus. Check those to see if it's average or spot. AF does cause more lag.
I have found that in low light situations the zoom focus is much more difficult and needs some contrasting edges to actually grab a good focus.

Actually you can record over 1 hour of video on the phone if you set the video length to "normal". If you have the 512 meg memory expansion you can record something ridiculous like 11 hours.
The video quality is so so but very good for a camera phone. I was able to sync video I shot at a Black Crowes concert with the audio from the "instant live" CD of the concert and it got the point across.
