Subject says it all...looking at an upgrade from a Dare...reviews on VZ's site are comparable, with more for the env...lots of batt like complaints...choc looks really good...opinions? Thanks!!!

But it's only for 900 minute + plans...we have a family shared plan with 700 (most of the family and friends have verizon) and we barely use those...having no charge for landline calls would be sweet, but I can't get with without increasing my monthly charge...not worth it for me.

I usually figure 1 min per mb, so 4gb is about 4000 minutes. If the songs are 3-4 minutes, approx 1000 songs.

Looks like VX dropped this phone with the release of the Chocolate. It's no longer listed on the Verizonwireless.com site as an available phone...can anyone with VZ connections confirm this? :( :( :(

Nope...transflash (aka micro sd) is the only one that works.

OK...let's try to get an official answer...is there a new SW for the 950? My ver is a950.YK24 (the WMA version). If there is a YK25, what does it do? Return to MP3 compatability? Thanks!!!!

Write protect tab on the card, but like on full sized SD cards...switch it off...

Not sure even a USB 2 card will help. I have an HP laptop w/USB 2 ports (only a year old), and get the same low speed warning. Not sure if it's the drivers or the phone.

BTW, to check firmware version... Menu...Settings&Tools...#5 system...#1 Device info...#2 SW version. The firmware is the first line... for example "Software V. a950.YK24"

2 as far as I am aware...original played MP3's directly. New version only plays WMA's. New firmware is a950 yk24. I don't remember the original, but it was yk (something much smaller than 24). :?

You can't directly...e-mail the MP3 clip to yourself, then set as ringtone. Search the forum for MP3 as ringtone...covered many times before. :)

Open the phone, Get It Now, #1 Get Tunes, #4 My Music....starts music player, start a song, right button is options....you can select "shuffle". I haven't found how to make a real playlist yet. But I just updated from the MP3 version to the WMP version, so I haven't had much time to play with the new interface.

Bad phone...Verizon replaced it no sweat and it works now like a charm. And, no you do NOT need vcast activated to use the ME Kit to sync from WMP10 to the phone. Cheers and thanks to all who helped!!!

FIXED!!!! It was indeed a hardware problem that would not let WMP see the phone. Synced abd converted no sweat. Should have done this sooner!!! Susan...it probably is a hardware issue for you as well.

Susna... Probably not WMP10 after all. Looks like in may case the phone is bad. The "sync music" option does not work...gives a "not supported" message. The Verizon tech told me to go back to the store and either get it re-flashed or to get a new phone. Hope this helps you.

Yes I did the right order... After alot of time on with Verizon tech support, we've come to the conclusion that either a. the firmware flash was bad or b. the phone is bad. The "sync music" option is not opening the sync port on the phone like it should. I'm going back for a re-flash or a new phone tomorrow (Wed).

Susan...I just got off with Verizon...apparently there is an issue with WMP10 and the a950. Go to the microsoft support page and search for KB #911091. This is a procedure that with possibly fix the issue. If not, Verizon gave me a phone number to MS for this issue... 1-800 642-7676. Give it a shot and let me know how it works.

OK, hopefully someone here can clear this up for me.... Upgraded my phone to YK24 to be able to use the ME Kit. Bought the kit ($30) and installed as directed...drivers, WMP10, reboot. Computer sees the phone, WMP10 doesn't see the phone. Plus, in the Get it Now, My Tunes, Sync Music selection, "Not Supported". Verizon NOW tells me that I need $15/month Vcast to use the ME Kit to transfer my music via cable to the phone. 1) Is this ...

Same issue.... :x installed from the CD in order (drivers then WMP10), rebooted. Phone updated to a950 YK24 yesterday. Drivers install, Windows recognizes the new hardware, but WMP does not see the phone. And yes, I did the above...phone says "Not Supported". Did the software upgrade not take properly? Thanks!!!

OK...I'm going to bite the bullet and get the firmware upgrade on my original A950. Question...can you use WMP10 to transfer MP3's to my transflash and put them on the phone without the cable? Will it automatically convert the MP3's to WMA's on the card? I don't want to convert my entire library to WMA, and I don't want 2 copies of each song on my laptop...just the WMA's on the phone. Does the Music Kit do the on-the-fly ...

Please....no opinions....only if you ACTUALLY HAVE the new V-Cast music firmware and a USB cable.... :roll: There have been various comments/posts in regard to the latest firmware and it's effect on MP3's vs WMA's. I understand that downloaded music from V-Cast music will be WMA. Can you, with the new firmware and the USB cable, still transfer MP3's to the phone and play them. AGAIN, please, only if you have actual, hands-on experience in using this phone. I'm tired ...

Someone in November had this issue...so did I. Re-format your card, then transfer the MP3 files back onto the card and see if this helps. It fixed my problem back in November. Search the forum for "mp3 skipping" for the thread.

Thanks for your correction Mary... No BT transfers...the only BT profiles that are supported are headsets (VZW diabled feature). Also, no cable transfers yet because....no cables available yet!!!

At CES they announced 1gb and coming a 2gb. Currently 512mb available, ther vothers are coming soon.

DRM may be true, but there's no reason why they could not have added WMA to the existing setup. I don't play a single downloaded song on my ipod....ALL are ripped from by existing collection. BUT I still have the option to go to itunes and buy something and put it on my pod without sacrificing the existing library of legally ripped songs. I truly think that's the issue that has everyone so p***ed. ADD the download capability without ...

MP3 players can play multiple formats (ipod can play AAC, MP3; Creative Zen can play MP3 and WMA, etc), why can't the phone player?
