Can Blinkfeed be turned off/set to WiFi only?

I don't have unlimited data... Blinkfeed sounds nice, but I'd like to be able to control its data usage. Thanks!

How is the i455 for text/etc. messaging?
Sep 30, 2006, 9:02 PM

Hey -- so the i450 is history, and the i455 is the new low-end guy. SO, does this fix the messaging problems that the i450 had? Anyone have one? Jess -- any reports from the field either way? Thanks!

How to read unreadable text message?
Sep 6, 2006, 2:18 PM
in the Boost forum

Hello all, I have a text message that I can't read -- whenever I click on it to read it, it thinks for a while then says "Failed to receive message". I've tried it for three days... and turned the phone (i450) off a couple of times. What to do? Thanks!

Hey SuperSteve, The only one that got me was the Internet charge -- I misread the site and thought it was $0.20 per day you use the net. Turns out, once you use the net even once, after that you're charged $0.20 a day from the on. There are no 'hidden' charges that I've seen in the month and a half I've had Boost. You can always click the 'My Account' link at the top of the page, log in, and ...

Now you know why I'm not in technical support :) It's just like Virgin. On day 91 you'd have $22 (minus any calls). Previous credits just pile up.

Okay, Mr. "Insert Witty Name Here" is WRONG. Boost minutes go up in smoke 90 days after activation, for ever (or until they change it :-). He's probably misreading the following from the FAQ: # HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO RECHARGE MY ACCOUNT? You will need to recharge at least once every 90 days to keep your account active. If you don't recharge within 90 days, any unused credits after 90 days will be forfeited ...

Re: MMS issues: Some improvement

in the Boost forum

My understanding is that if you forward an e-mail to a Boost phone with the address of PTN@myboostmobile.com it should be received as a text...please advise!!! Yeah, that worked once (back awhile ago, when I first got the phone, and all messaging worked). However, I sent myself an email at MY_PTN@myboostmobile.com this morning, and 7 1/2 hours later it hasn't arrived... so this seems to be down too.

Hey Jess (and everyone else), Some minor improvements -- now, when I send a message from the Boost webpage, it arrives almost immediately! Woot :-) I sent a message from my wife's Cingular phone, and it took an hour or so to arrive, but it came in. Still no Google, though... --yachris

Hi Jess, Thanks for keeping up with us -- I really appreciate the support. You have to buy YOUR OWN i450 to try it out?!? Wow. That's just... wrong. They expect you to troubleshoot something you can't touch? You must be really good... demand a raise :-). Anyway, back to the task at hand. Sorry to be confusing about terminology -- I don't care what we call it :) I just want to be able ...

Hi Jess, Well, browser reset didn't help, so I called Boost customer support. Talked to a guy named Lee (nice guy, competent seeming, STRONG southern accent) and he said that it's a problem for all Boost customers right now -- they did some network maintenance, and when it came back, boom, no messages. He didn't have an idea as to when it'd be fixed. As to 'SMS', bring up "Message Center" ...

Hey Jess, Did you ever resolve this? My i450 just staretd getting this. For whatever it's worth, here's my story: 1. I get my i450, love it :) and try all the features, including the internet. 2. I check my account online, see I'm being charged $0.20 per day for some reason. 3. Turns out I'm an idiot :( and that I'm charged every day for internet, use it or not, and that's what the Boost website says. 4. The helpful Boost person says, ...

Cable, software required (recommendations?)
Nov 12, 2005, 5:45 PM
in the Boost forum

Well, I broke down :-) and called Boost Customer Support, and the second guy I talked to seems to have tracked it down. Turns out you can't email pictures/ringtones/etc. to the phone and expect to use them; you have to load them via a cable. I have the cable on order -- anyone know what software will work with this phone? Thanks!

i450 question
Nov 12, 2005, 11:25 AM
in the Boost forum

Still lovin' my i450 but it does do one WEIRD thing -- it causes noise on my (external) PC speakers! When I power it up, it thinks for a while and then does the 'blinking arrow under the globe' thing (checking for new email?). When it's doing this, I hear fairly loud static on my PC speakers. And it's not just my home speakers -- it did it to a friends' speakers at work. Any clues? Anyone else ...

Picture to Wallpaper?
Nov 10, 2005, 12:52 PM

Hey -- I took the plunge, love my i450 so far. Now if I can just convince all the people calling for the business that used to own this number NOT TO... :-) Question: I've email'd myself a picture, it's on the phone in "My Pictures", it looks great-n-all, but HOW do I get it to be my wallpaper? It's a 130x130 jpg. Thanks!

Ooooops, I'm an idiot, replace "because they'd get less $$$ out of licensing." with "because they'd get less $$$ THAN THEY WOULD HAVE out of licensing." D'oh! :)

You're right about the injunction. If that happens, then BCGI has no option but to go out of business... but that wouldn't be in Freedom Wireless's best interests (IMHO) because they'd get less $$$ out of licensing. I don't *think* it'll be the end of prepaid; in the article you quote, it says: "Verizon Wireless was also a co-defendant but reached a settlement with Freedom Wireless before the trial began earlier this year." So Verizon, at least, will be legally ...

Hey, thanks for the info, and HEY JESS, wondered when you'd chime in :-) Well, if the ruling stands, BCGI is in it bad. If I read Yahoo's finance pages right, they earned $105m in revenue (with profits of $74m) last year, and had about $62m in cash at the end of the year, and the judgement against them is $148m now. Eeek. The question is, is Freedom Wireless interested in driving BCGI out of business? That seems ...

Thanks again, nextel18. Please keep us up-to-date on what happens with the trial... other than seeing it in the news, I'm not sure how I'd find out. Hope you'll continue to mine your insider resources :-)

Thanks -- good link, from happier days :-) Just wish I had a crystal ball to know (A) how the lawsuit will turn out and (2) if bcgi loses, whether Boost'll do some kind of prepaid licensing or just switch everyone to Premium...

nextel18 -- thanks! I appreciate your answering, and keeping us informed. This page from BCGI (the company losing in the lawsuit): http://www.bcgi.net/about/news/r eleases/pr_10172005.htm says (near the bottom) that 37% of their revenue is from Nextel (which I assume means Boost). However, it says that Verizon is 22% of their revenue, but news articles have said that Verizon licenses the technology BCGI is being sued for. Is Nextel/Boost licensed? I assume you'd have to do your own billing if BCGI ...
