Re: Question from Iphone owner....
Apr 4, 2010, 2:32 PM
in the Motorola Droid forum

I have a question for you since you have been using an Iphone for awhile. Does your Bluetooth work with Voice Commands? In other words can you make a call without touching the phone? That will NOT work with the Droid for some dumb reason and if it is working with the IPhone, then I'm going to dump my Droid as soon as Verizon has the IPhone available later this year. With all my previous Motorola phones, ...

Re: Bluetooth Voice Commands

You have me completely confused with someone else in some other threads. I have made two complaints about this phone. The first was that it came with no users manual, and the online manual is terrible. The second and only one regarding the phone, is that it does not support bluetooth voice dialing, which is this thread. I have never forwarded a message (I assume you meant a text message) from any phone, so have no interest ...

Well, every other phone I have owned in the last 5 years was legal to use while driving in California. This one is not. Its not just a single button push either. Its several button pushes. I guess you work as a salesman for Verizon and accept no critism, whether constructive or otherwise. Instead you prefer to insult your customers who have complaints. I'll just move on to AT&T again and ignore the nonsense here. Go **** yourself.

Bluetooth Voice commands
Mar 19, 2010, 12:27 PM
in the Apple iPhone 3GS forum

Say, do your Iphones allow Voice Commands for initiating a call over a Bluetooth headset? That always worked with all my other phones for the last several years with both Verizon and AT&T. I have accounts on both for when one network or the other is weak in an area I'm traveling in. But I have found that with my Droid on Verizon, that feature simply does not work and its not a flaw in my phone, ...

I just thought, I wonder if the Iphone folks even know about this particular Droid shortfall? What a great ATT/Iphone Ad it would make to explain why the Droid was not legal to use for making calls while driving in xxxx States. They sure make a big deal about a lot of nonsensical differences in features between the two phones. One Ad like that would probably get Verizon/Motorola/Google to fix this quickly.

The car dock and speaker phone may be a work around for some, but it is absolutely not legal in most States for initiating a call unless you are pulled over and parked at the time. You can not be looking at the phone, even in a car dock on the dash board, reaching for it and pushing buttons and call that a legal "Hands Free" phone as is required. Once the call is initiated, you don't even need ...

Bluetooth Voice Commands
Mar 18, 2010, 6:46 PM
in the Motorola Droid forum

Even after reading the information available regarding the 2.1 update that is going to hit eventually, it says nothing about fixing the missing ability to use Bluetooth Voice Command to make a call. I can not understand how they could have forgotten or screwed up a function like that which has been available on most phones for several years, and makes this phone illegal to use while driving in many States. Anyone even heard of an App that makes ...

I just installed Hancut SMS and Font pack 1 and did a few test messages after reading the above. I agree that it is significantly better and easier to use then the Droid basic messaging application.

WiFi
Feb 9, 2010, 5:01 PM
in the Motorola Droid forum

OK. this may sound like a dumb question to those of you that have been using "smart" phones for awhile, but assuming that I am in an area that has good network coverage, and that I don't use anywhere near my data plan maximum each month, what is the advantage of using WiFi on this phone? I usually leave it turned off to save on battery life. I assume there is some advantage to using it because ...

Re: Droid Problems?

Thanks for the info. I'll look for that SMS app you mentioned. Any other really good apps for basic stuff you can recommend? I'm not into using all the features of a smart phone. I just need a reliable phone and txt messager, plus the ability to do occasional web look ups when on the road, without carrying a laptop all the time. I guess you are correct about it being Google who provided the software, and ...

Droid Problems?
Feb 3, 2010, 6:20 PM
in the Motorola Droid forum

Well, after about 2 weeks of use, the biggest problem I have found with this phone is the absolutely terrible user's manual that is only available on line. I actually read instructions when learning a new device, but this manual is nearly worthless. Little by little I have been figuring out how to make things work, but basic stuff like how to delete apps or how to reply to a text message should be in the user's manual. The phone ...

Considering how much you seem to hate this phone, have you considered buying an IPhone instead? Why put so much energy into denigrating a phone you hate instead of just getting a different one?

Software update
Jul 14, 2008, 4:09 PM
in the Motorola KRZR K1m forum

Anyone updated their K1M software recently? There is a new version available from Motorola's website. 24.1_01.09... I wondered if anyone has a version later then 24.1_00.25OC on their phone who can tell me if they have the ability to change font sizes yet? Thanks.

Figures. No updates to fix problems, but only to restrict how you use it. Sounds like VZ alright. Any chance that your latest K1m allows you to change type fonts or sizes for text displayed on the screen? That is the one I was hoping for because the type is so small and hard to read. Other Motos have that option available, but not my K1m, which I have had for more then 6 months. By the way, with ...

Has Motorola or Verizon released any software upgrades for this phone since it was first introduced? I still like the phone, but it needs some minor software improvements, such as the ability to make the type font larger.

Good for him! More people should take these disputes to Small Claims Court instead of fighting endlessly with morons working at some of these companies. Its simple to do in nearly every State and the Small Claims Courts are usually easy work with. No attorney required an donly a small filing fee that is also paid back to you when you win the case.

Re: Extended battery for KRZR
Feb 4, 2007, 8:24 PM
in the Motorola KRZR K1m forum

I have the extended battery and have alternated using it with the standard battery, since getting the phone. The extended is about 1/8" thicker and makes handling the phone more comfortable in my hand. The standard battery is more comfortable in my shirt pocket though, so I go back and forth with them. I think the extended lasts about 50% longer then the standard.

Re: Font size
Feb 2, 2007, 3:54 PM

I have the same problem. Several other VZ phones give you a font size option, but not this one. I'm hoping for a software upgrade that allows it. Too hard to even read the phone numbers being looked up in the contacts list in weak light. One of my few complaints about this phone.

Re: Legal or Not? Sue or Not? Either way I was let down by VZW
Feb 2, 2007, 3:24 PM

Its criminal under Federal law and many State laws for someone claiming to be you to get your phone records without a search warrant. There have been some high profile legal cases recently that involved that practise by private investigators. In California, it is also illegal for the phone company to release those records to anyone else knowingly. Hire an attorney. You may have a lawsuit against VZ since they are legally responsible for the actions of their employees ...

In fact, you can get out of any contract where the terms are arbitrarily changed by the maker of the contract, after the date the contract is signed. Its just a matter of how hard you want to push it. The reps are probably told to say NO, but they don't know contract law. Verizon knows contract law and their own attorneys have certainly told the executives the law. It is even clearly stated in their contract that if ...

Re: October...

One major reason is that a lot of people are waiting for the new ETF policy to go into effect. Few customers read these boards, but most read or see the local news, and the new policy was reported widely, but is not yet in effect. People are holding off signing new contracts waiting. Its called "blocking your own market" in marketing terms. A dumb move by VZ to announce the new policy for advertising purposes, but delay putting ...

New Contract Terms
Aug 17, 2006, 2:09 PM

Do any of you reps know exactly when the new contract terms go into effect? I am talking about the new terms that pro rate the ETF if you cancel early? VZ announced that these would be going into effect sometime soon now and I'd like to wait for them before I sign a new contract. They will not apply to existing contracts according to the article I read.

How did you manage that please? There was a LOT of discussion about that very issue months ago when the 8300 first came out and a lot of pissed off people because you couldn't do that without a lot of hacks. Its why I never upgraded from a 6000 myself, even though VZ will give me a 8300 free. If you found an easy way, please post it here. You can do a search of DUN on this forum ...

You mentioned that it can be paired with up to 20 BT devices. Since it is not a speak phone itself, can it be paired to an external speaker/microphone for use in a car? Are such after market devices currently available? That would solve the speakerphone issue for me. Thanks for the info.

New deals from VZ
Jul 6, 2006, 12:56 PM
in the Verizon forum

I haven't seen any threads of comments about this here yet, but there were several stories in various newspapers including the WSJ about VZ offering much better deals to their customers starting in the fall of this year. For one thing, they are going to start pro-rating their early cancellation fee, something that has been much complained about here in the past. Better deals for 1 year contracts as well. If you are off contract or near so, it ...

Well, what he did was probably a civil matter, and at most a Misdemeanor. What you did was probably a Felony under various Federal and State privacy laws. Yeah, he was a jerk. No that does not give you the legal right to violate the law to get even. Big risk for no reward. Verizon would probably fire you immediately if they found out.

I looked at it on the VZ website and seems like the way to go then. However, it says that the cost is $1.99 per month, not just to download it. How do you cancel it after you use it, so that it doesn't keep getting charged to your account every month? I'm not very familiar with using their website for doing things. Always used to just go to the corporate store and talk to someone in the past. ...

Well, I doubt that many people understand about charge cycle life. Its usually not in the documentation, and you have to dig pretty deep into battery tech to find out about that little detail. It was also true for NmH batteries, but with those they were more worried about memory, the same as with NiCad's.

There is one other point however that is usually over looked. What you said is correct for Li batteries. However, they still have a projected number of charge cycles to their life. When a Li battery has been charged x number of times, it then does start charging to a lower and lower level, until it dies. A single charge cycle could be a small "top off" charge when the battery is only say 25% discharged, or it could ...
