Re: WOW
Except, as I pointed out in my response, there's actually nothing in the settlement that says Sprint's going to do this. The only mention of this in the agreement is that Sprint will better train its representatives on the policy, not that it will change that policy.

Sprint already does allow non-sprint phone to be activated if they have the software installed on them that allow a connection to our network. I've seen Cricket, Altel and VZW phones on sprint service when I worked for a Sprint dealer.
I'm sure you have, but not because Sprint policy allows it. Sprint has more representatives and agents willing to violate that policy than, I think, they're willing to admit.
Phonescoop, you're wrong.
There is no guarantee in the settlement that Sprint will change its policy about allowing non-Sprint phones on its network. A copy of the settlement notice is at:
http://www.sprintlockinglawsuit.com/pr oposed.html
And it states, about this point:
"Sprint has agreed to provide customer service representatives with information to help respond to questions from customers or potential customers about activating a non-Sprint phone on the Sprint CDMA network."
That's a promise to better train reps on the policy. NOT to change that selfsame policy.

For customers to try to say they didn't "Authorize" these charges on their bill.
Of course you didn't authorize it, you gave it to someone else to use, and they authorized it for you!
First of all, the charges won't show up on their cell phone bill. So the call will go to Citi.
Second of all, the second paragraph sounds about right.
Re: America gets screwed
There's also another answer that doesn't get mentioned much: landline.
There's exceptions, but the USA basically built out their landline network to the home much more so than the rest of the world. Thus, there's wasnt' an immediate convergence on the cell phone as our primary means of communication like there was elsewhere (I suspect this is also part of why the cell phone discount model was created).
This is changing, and maybe the industry will change with it ...
Re: US purposely behind in cellular market
Lets face it, GSM is better.
And yet every evolution path for GSM is *to* CDMA.
GSM isn't better. It's easier. Less expensive. That isn't automatically better.
Re: Best accurate review to date- The "Q" gets a F
Full Qwerty! not 2 per key. No such thing with Blackberry.
Wait, *several* Blackberry model lines have full QWERTY keyboards. If you're trying to include voice dialing in that claim, then I understand. From what I've learned, that's a conscious choice by RIM based on requests to keep it out by some of their US government clients.

Sprint and Nextel are more than likely very well prepared for network integration...and have probably have added Sprint PCS antennas to a significant portion of Nextel's towers already.
There's more to network integration than antennas and signal, as US Unwired's recent lawsuit illustrates. Once combined, Sprint will be in direct competition with its own affiliates, even if under the Nextel brand name. That's a violation of the agreements Sprint has with those affiliates. US Unwired is ...

Yes captain, you extensive knowledge of the wireless industry has once again showed your incompetence.
He is correct, CDMA handsets cannot be used cross-carrier by their very nature.
Only GSM handsets are able to be used acorss different provider networks, so long as the frequency is correct for the network chosen.
That is not correct. Although most CDMA carriers are starting to retract it, I know that Verizon, for one, would activate any CDMA phone that could detect their network. ...
Re: What is the difference in carriers with wireless data
An hour to send a 1MB file on Sprint? Based on what? I toyed around with tethered use of Vision, and sent a 2MB file in less than 3 minutes.
Your math doesn't make sense.
BTW, another difference between the services is that Verizon, according to their TOS, charges minutes of airtime for data use. Sprint does not.
Re: Wireless Broadband Race Tightens
I'd have to side with Nextel18 on this. WiMAX is being pushed as a Wireless Metro Area Network, meaning distances up to 50km. That's as large, or larger, than the coverage of a PCS/Cellular service tower. That, in turn, means it's capable of being a direct competitor to Cellular carriers. And at data rates that blow cellular out of the water for years to come.
And that so-called "super 3G" is a bit father away than ...
Re: What's the difference?
That's a tough question to answer. Not what makes them different. But which is better. They're different. As different as Ford and Chevy. Which is better?
GSM currently the majority standard around the world. TDMA is, in short, the predecessor to GSM. CDMA has been making headway against GSM, and, in fact, almost all upgrades for GSM in the future lead to becoming CDMA.
I have a huge preference for CDMA, but you'll find ...
Re: The Industry in 20 years...
It's intriguing and even a little fun to speculate about where wireless communications will go in the future. But, y'know, we simply don't know where the future's interest will lie. As little as 3 years ago, picture messaging was not only unheard of, but no one was even sure the phones would work reliably, or be used.
Anyone remember Sprint's "Uproar" MP3 phone? Integrated MP3 player and phone. Sprint sold, what, 100 of 'em? I'm ...

I bought a Samsung A700 second-hand... it's in great condition, but I was not provided with the Security Lock Code, and the seller doesn't remember it. Does anyone know what I can do to unlock the security options on this phone?
I realize this is old, but I thought I'd post it anyway: If you take the phone to a Sprint Service Center, they can do a software "refurb" on the phone. This cleans out the phone's ...

I post over at 3GUpload, where I'm a moderator. If you don't mind, I'm going to post those links to our forums.
If you would rather I remove them, let me know, and I will remove them.
Re: cell # number question
You've basically been told the story. As long as everything is as AT&T demands, then it's done within a matter of hours.
But, if there's *anything* not the way AT&T understands, even the slightest reason for them to say "we don't have an account with that information", then you'll be calling us again to re-input that AT&T info. Be sure you've got your last bill handy.
Re: My take on it - for what it's worth..
I have to disagree, but only in one aspect:
Phone are also the means to differentiate one carrier from another. While there is certainly *some* carry-over from one provider to another, there's also a significant amount of difference. More of the latter than the former, I would think. I mean, the Sanyo VM4500 is a strong seller, and it's probably the most expensive non-PDA phone SPCS has ever sold. Sure it would be nice to use ...

Woops, gone again. :o
This phone *is* imminent, though.
Re: Why would anyone sign up with Sprint PCS?
Hmmm... interesting.
Verizon. The network where you can be using their service *AND* roaming at the very same time.
The company that first said "no, we won't charge you for WLNP" and then proceeded to break that promise less than 6 months later.
Verizon, the company that lays claim to the highest-speed data network in the country... as long as you conveniently ignore that it's only in two cities, and not living up to its promise even there.
Verizon, the company that ...
Re: Do we need it?
For whatever it's worth, no new towers are needed for PTT. It'll be IP-based, and thus run like a data application.
Re: Anyone Here
I'm here.
Maybe not much, though. I'll keep an eye and see how things turned out. It was just an easy way to access Usenet from work. Now that's gone.
I can understand why they did it. But I was here for Usenet access in a way that *didn't* create the multi-posts SU never seemed all that eager to fix.
