You'll need a program to do this. There are a couple of simple freeware programs that I've used:
MiniTones: http://mytreo.net/downloads/minitones,1053.ht ml

Both are essentially similar in what they do: Open SD card, find tone you want, edit/cut tone to smaller length or subsection, save tone to internal memory (a reasonably short 10-30 second clip clip should be around 200-500 KB).
I personally prefer the interface to MiniTones.

Editing the Favorites on Alltel?
I just got a Treo 755p from eBay and it works great so far on Alltel's network.
Is there a way to unlock some of the favorites that Alltel includes by default? For example, I don't want the OfficeSync, Email, Get Apps or Bluetooth items cluttering up the front page of my Favorites menu, but when I try to edit them, move them, etc., the phone prevents me from doing so.

Can you use your own MP3s as ringtones? Can you transfer contacts/files to/from the phone via Bluetooth? Does it support Bluetooth DUN?
Can you set it up so that it has a low ring volume but still vibrates?

I'm looking to find a phone that had more Bluetooth profiles and better MP3 support than the Samsung u520 I've been using for a week; it's otherwise a really nice phone.
So I went to a local Alltel retail store and called their customer service today. Both places claimed they stopped selling the KRZR due to "software problems," but they thought they'd return when when Motorola fixed the "problems."

Here are some additional cons I've found that are all issues because Alltel choose to cripple the functionality of the phone:
1. Bluetooth profiles are limited. It won't do file transfer (MP3/MID/JPG/etc) or accept contact information. You can't transfer your images/videos off the phone unless you either buy a card or pay $.25 for a multimedia message.
2. It won't allow you to select a ringtone (MP3 or MID) that's stored on the card. It also ...

The phone is a thin phone: the thickness is about 16-17 mm (0.6"-0.7"depending on if you count the tiny hump for the camera lens/flash or not.

I got one of these on Friday after my 4th Nokia 6255i's hinge finally failed completely. I wasn't able to check out the u520 thoroughly in the store, as the one they had on display had a run-down battery.

Had a hinge problem on mine and had Alltel do a warrantee replacement. There's apparently been a firmware revision: "Collection" and "Games" are no longer listed on my new phone. :(
Idiocy.
However, I can now select custom MP3s for the "message received" function.

I'd like to connect my Palm T|T to the net via bluetooth to this phone and use the connection for internet access. Anyone have hints on how to do this?

SD cards are too thick. The metal cover won't close properly if you try to use one. I use a 512 MB MMC with no trouble so far....

I put a standard headset in as well (on a one day old 6255i) and now my phone is stuck in headset mode. Did the original poster ever find a solution other than bringing the phone back to the service?
