notification sounds vs ringtones
May 26, 2010, 9:30 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

if i download a ringtone from zedge (or anywhere for that matter) it ends up in my ringtones folder, and ultimately the sound settings gives me the option to make that file a ringtone. but when i go into notification settings for messages- or to be more specific, handcent's notification settings- i can an entirely different set of ringtones- none of which are my downloads. any ideas?

i've had this issue too. once per day- usually in the evening it will power cycle. this started happening a few days ago (to my knowledge). the only app i've downloaded recently is knocking. uninstalled just now. will see what happens.

how to uninstall preloaded apps?
May 3, 2010, 9:30 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

so there isn't an abundance of crapware on here- but enough that i want to start getting rid of some...such as city id and others. how is this possible? can't do this via manage applications. any ideas?

htc sense restarting with taskiller when on ignore list
May 2, 2010, 10:27 AM
in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

hello, i used taskiller free with my moto droid with no problems. now with the incredible, even with htc sense on my ignore list, every once in a while when i do a "kill all" with the widget, sense restarts. any ideas? developer really doesn't have an answer.

Re: America's Choice plan???
Apr 26, 2010, 10:15 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

the only reason you'd want to stay on your ac plan is because of how it accounted for data. on ac plans, data was charged as a minute, on nw plans, data is charged at $1.99 per mb. most ac plans allow for same minutes as nw counterparts with few exceptions. (there was a 500 family share).

volume display issue
Apr 24, 2010, 10:30 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

so after playing with a launch kit- when you adjust the ringer volume using the rocker on the side, the display that pops up on the screen to indicate the volume level stays on the screen for a seemingly unbearable amount of time. (way longer than moto droid). the worst part- your left hand is going to hit the rocker when texting in landscape...which brings me to another point, it only works in landscape when rotating to the left. ...

Re: vzw and att in cahoots?

unfortunately, price fixing is what it seems. what a shame.

Re: vzw and att in cahoots?

but how is a $30 cut in these plans good for one company and just as good for another without any forethought?

vzw and att in cahoots?
Jan 28, 2010, 10:02 PM
in the Verizon forum

so a few years ago vzw started unlimited voice at $99.99. the next day, att had the same plan. history repeated itself last week as vzw slashed it's unlimited talk price by $30 and att followed suit the very next day. now- a multi billion dollar corporation has to do a lot of thinking before it drastically cuts its pricing. forecasting, regression models, excel sheets galore. suffice it to say, vzw didn't just decide it was good marketing...lots of forethought ...

rotating video
Nov 28, 2009, 1:00 AM
in the Motorola Droid forum

so when you take video with the phone in portrait mode and then play the video back from say you computer- you have to tilt your head 90 degrees. is there anyway inside the phone to rotate video so it looks proper when taken in portrait mode?

echoing/sound issues
Nov 22, 2009, 6:23 PM
in the Motorola Droid forum

anyone having issues where people on the other end complain of echoing? when i call someone- and this happens intermittently, of course, they'll sometimes complain that they are echoing. whenever they complain that they echo, i hear every third word of what they are saying. any ideas?

4 times today this phone just restarted on me- and one of the times it didn't turn back on by itself. happens when i plug it in- when i send a text- or just stare at it. getting a replacement- but was wondering if anyone's heard of a cause or a fix?

so far the droid has shut itself off a few times for no apparent reason...any ideas?

speech to text and other questions
Nov 9, 2009, 6:22 PM

with all the voice recognition software- is there any "vlingo" like app that can send text messages with my vocie? also, with sms- anyway to turn on haptic feedback when using the screen to tap out messages? thanks!

Re: Stop Comparing it; Its No iPhone
Nov 4, 2009, 12:13 AM
in the Motorola Droid forum

the software is great- no doubt about it- but the network is undoubtedly garbage...and the hardware of the phone isn't anything special. 2MP camera? no flash? only recently able to mms? no tether? so yes, it's a garbage phone with a great interface.

voice control question
Nov 3, 2009, 11:11 PM
in the Motorola Droid forum

so, you can control navigation with your voice. you can search the internet with your voice. you can search the contents of the phone with your voice. you can dial with your voice.....but is there a "vlingo-esque" application for android that will allow me to send a text message without having to use my opposable thumbs?

tethering
Nov 1, 2009, 11:15 PM
in the Motorola Droid forum

fyi fanboys- no tethering support on the motorola or htc eris (at least at launch).

in the Motorola Droid forum

i'm glad it's not an iphone. iphone is garbage on that garbage network (i'm a hardcore mac user, so i have no hate for apple products). the iphone has a very intuitive interface designed for even the most simple of people- whereas android will have a learning curve to master all the nuances of the os. this is a phone for nerds alike- not my grandmother.

app storage
Oct 6, 2009, 9:13 PM
in the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA) forum

biggest pet peeve of the blackberry app world is that you can only archive your apps onto a memory card- you cannot store and run the apps. this means you can only have a very limited amount of apps at any given time. with the touch pro 2 or any win mo phone, can you run your apps (especially when they have a better catalog) from the memory card?

google sync does exist for win mo!!

google integration
Oct 6, 2009, 7:19 PM
in the HTC Touch Pro2 (CDMA) forum

i'm really getting tired of blackberry- same software inside of a different piece of hardware for years now. but i will have a hard time leaving blackberry because of google sync. the ability to have a "mini bes" by ota sync of my contacts and calendar is crucial. will this phone, or any winmo phone support google sync or an equivalent?

storm is in the mail...this is not my first blackberry (it's actually my 5th) and i have used pocketmac to sync things i've needed to (even tho i do plan on using google sync for contacts and calendars- the only things i need syncd)...but i do want to know a) where i can get the latest software (not necessarily official software) and b) how do i install it with a mac? i do use bootcamp, so if i have to ...

THIS PHONE IS NOT COMING TO VERIZON. VZW is getting the Thunder which is an all touch screen phone in the coming weeks- and in may will have the niagra. something possibly similar to the bold- but not quite.

no verizon in september!
Jun 28, 2008, 9:42 AM
in the BlackBerry Bold 9000 forum

as much as i love phone scoop- i suggest you look at phonearena.com once in a while, as well. also, as someone that works in the industry- the THUNDER is what's coming to vzw next- and it is all touch screen an, well, pretty lame. i would never get another all touchscreen smart phone- never. there is the "niagra" but that's for next year.

IM on pearl
Feb 4, 2008, 9:48 PM
in the BlackBerry Pearl 8100 forum

Got this with att...just want to know about using AIM with this phone. can i do it? what do i need to do to get it working? and finally, are they as shady as i think in that they count each IM as an SMS? or is it unlimited because it uses the unlimited data i pay for every month?

Get out of ATT Contract?
Dec 10, 2007, 11:47 PM
in the AT&T forum

I've had an iPhone since September. Don't love it. Don't hate it. It's plain old OK. But since I find myself wanting less and less to have my email always with me, I want a regular phone. Problem is, there's not one ATT phone that I want other than the V9. This phone comes in one horrible color, that I as a man could not possibly keep as my phone. So, I wish to go back to Verizon. I'll ...

Re: iPHONE BATTERY ISSUES
Oct 4, 2007, 11:18 PM
in the Apple iPhone forum

first of all...if it's 200 anything it's cycles, not charges. it's still a Lithium Ion battery. After so many cycles it will GRADUALLY lose its charge. A cycle is empty to full and empty again. So if you charge it full..then let it go half way..then full..then half way..then full..that's two cycles. and it's probably more than 200..it's probably closer to 300. which should last the average person about a year...which is the industry average.

and one more thing... i love apple...but it's pretty scummy to recess the headphone jack the way they did...you can't even use ipod buds on the phone..you have to use their cheap piece of crap iphone buds...i have bose qc2 and bose inear...both useless...any adapters that will fix that?

loading more messages
Sep 23, 2007, 4:49 PM
in the Apple iPhone forum

sometimes in my email i see it says "Load 25 more messages." maybe i'm wrong..but isn't this saying that it would like to pull up the last 25 messages on my server? when i click it, it looks like it's doing something..then after a minute..it just stops and continues to say "load more messages" any ideas?

sirius on iphone?
Sep 23, 2007, 12:23 AM
in the Apple iPhone forum

so i can access the sirius online player via safari as if i would on my computer. i can log in, and get all the way to howard 100 and 101...but when i actually click on the channel i want to listen to..it doesn't play. there's gotta be some ingenious plugin to let this work..woudln't it be great to have this be makeshift satellite radio receiver?

just got it...a few questions and concerns
Sep 22, 2007, 11:53 PM
in the Apple iPhone forum

1) Why do I have to use the crappy iPhone stock ear buds? My bose QC2 and In Ear, as well as some radioshack nonsense headphones will not fit. Only the ear buds do. I doubt it..but anyway around this travesty? 2) how long should it take to connect to a pop server on edge? sometimes it takes 2-3 minutes. blackberry owns in this department. 3) any freeware apps that are worth looking at? 4) any word on an update to increase ...

keyboard lock vs standby mode
Jun 16, 2007, 2:18 PM
in the BlackBerry 8830 forum

There is only one convenience key on this phone...on my 8703 i used one for profiles, one for key board lock... but i really like the voice command trigger...so i have to lock the keyboard from inside the phone... but i learned if you hold the mute key down, you go into standby mode...which appears to be the same thing...no buttons work, but calls will come in...emails i'm not so sure about...and to get out..just tap the mute button... so is this ...

sim card
Jun 15, 2007, 10:53 PM

my 8830 did not come with a sim card. verizon said i'm supposed to request it? can i just get it at a big vzw store? that's what the rep said? anyone else know wut to do? also, they told me that to make and receive calls, it's just whatever the roaming rate is...but what about email? will i still receive that in europe? thanks
