Hey dude. Sounds like the iPhone isnt for you. And thats ok. It sounds like youre obviously more concerned with using it for the web, which the iPhone can do, but it doesnt sound like you're too jazzed about the other features. So the blackjack is probably right up your alley... and for free even!

just an FYI, Visual voicemail is a way to VIEW your voicemail messages in basically like email list.. says who its from and when the voicemail was left. You can choose which one you want to listen to, instead of skipping around with the keypad (and trying to remember which key is the save and which one is the delete). Cingular (ATT) developed it specifically for Apple.
My gripe with smartphones (im thinking full blown windows mobile--yuck, or symbian.. ...

Id have to argue that mac DOES do media better. Im a graphic designer and I'll accept no substitues. Plus every decent major recording artist (Nine Inch Nails comes to mind) uses nothing but macs as well. rock solid OS with rock solid software developers. I expect the same thing from my iPhone.

cdma is inferior... also apple wants to distribuite this phone world wide (obviously).. and GSM is considered a world standard.... only the US is behind in this one.. plus VZW and sprint suck.

Most people in relatively populated areas can find wifi.. my crappy town of 60k, i can find wifi practically anywhere. Add 3G? add another $100 and a few more mm in thickness. Good move by apple.

Short of running windows mobile, is there anything this phone DOESENT have? The weakest link for this phone is Helio, and really, they dont seem THAT bad..

ive been with cingular for ... 6 years.. yeah that sounds right. let me tell you this is welcome news.. dont forget this is BOTH internet AND txt/MMS. its about time the had a decent bundle.. and folks, honestly, $20 for unlimited internet and (pretty much) unlimited messaging is pretty freakin swiit if you use em enough.

great. thanks for your input! I lost alot of interest in motorola (having owned a v60, t720 and a v400). the razr didnt excite me because it just seemed like a slimmed down v600. but if the icons and the colors are changed (i like the aformentioned improvements) i'm pretty sure this will be my next phone.

if you look at the other thread called awww come on, youll find that it just says motorola prototype and probably a prototype # that can be linked to the source they aquired the phone from, thus incriminating that person (which if you want to see antyhing else out of motorola like this... we want to keep this insider!)

$300 is garbage.. esp when you have to fork out an extra $50 a month to take full advantage of all its features (dont quote me on that price). They should drop it to near free if you subscribe to their data plan on a 2 year... anyone else pissed about the lousy screen resolution and weak bluetooth?

So ive wanted this firmware sooo badly b/c mine came with the old one R1A... it was slow.
Finally i got sick of the slow/non-responsive keypad, i did a warrenty exchange via cingular's website. My replacement phone came with the latest firmware :D 8)
Pretty cool. I applied for the replacement, 2 days later they sent me the replacement phone as well as a shipping label and packageing to send back to them.

i got mine at bestbuy for like $30 (128mb). im sure you can find better. amazon has good deals so does buy.com
please note you need a memory stick duo. NOT PRO. if it says pro, you cant use it. So far the biggest is the 128mb.

Indeed. I am a former cingular Ast. mgr, and it was strict policy that they dont unlock for anyone, unless (last i heard) you were out of contract and moving OUT OF COUNTRY.
I also reccomend iUnlock.com

i think you can do it, but your best bet is to make sure everything is on your memory stick duo (pics/mp3s). For your phone book you can 1. copy all the numbers to your simcard (But you will have multiple entries for contacts with multiple numbers) -OR- have the cingular rep put in his sim card for the phone to work, use yours in the new phone and then use the "send all contacts" from the old ...

You got mis information my friend. The s710a comes with a java app that does conversions, so i would assume your java app will respond similarly. I tried using the app, entering some data then swivel close. the app doesnt close. it then goes into sleep mode but when i press any button it comes out of sleep and is right where i left it. So the s710a is your new phone. go get it. it ...

as far as i know there are only 2 ways to get it. Send it in to a 3rd party who will flash it for you ($30+ship from what ive seen) or if cingular corporate decides to update your firmware OTA (over the air). To my knowledge it is jus something they have to do, you cant request it be done. Correct me if im wrong, PLEASE!!!
