Funny, mine works as well as the 8700 I had with T-Mobile, just different.

Ringer and Sound Volume Questions
Jan 2, 2009, 9:37 AM
in the BlackBerry Storm 9530 forum

Generally, I find the Storm great and easy to use. A couple of questions: First: Ringer Control -- Is there any way to adjust ringers so they ring consistently? There seems to be a second or two gap between rings. Could be this is just the way they are but I would prefer a more persistent ring Second: Earpiece Volume Control -- The volume is fine for the most part and I have it turned up as high as it ...

Re: Any More Updates? - Background Noise

in the BlackBerry 8830 forum

Thanks so much, Rocco. The last reviewer wrote "People complain that I sound like I'm in a tunnel (but I am understandable)." I wonder if anyone has experienced that as well. I realize it could be somewhat carrier-dependent. I really would love to switch to the 8830 and drop my separate phone, but I want to minimize regrets. I guess if I wait long enough maybe RIM will come out with a new world blackberry!

Any More Updates? - Background Noise
Jan 3, 2008, 8:05 AM
in the BlackBerry 8830 forum

I really would like to get the 8830 but have been scared off by the background noise reports. They just seem too widespread to be totally off-base. Seems like RIM might come up with a better explanation or fix, or at least credible denial, rather than the seeming assertion by their tech folks that when you have a lot of sales, some of the customers are going to be fruitcakes. In any event, have there been 1) ...

Global Capability?

Any idea if there are any plans to give this phone global capabiity so there are other choices in addition to the 8830?

in the BlackBerry 8830 forum

Thanks so much, Rocco. I'd feel better about your test if it was somehow more widely verified. I've also heard some users report that the background noise sometimes goes away if they hang up and re-dial, leading to the possible position that it's a connectivity issue. There does seem to be an open issue about the mic being overly sensitive, and perhaps disabling enhanced audio helps. Still, I am really concerned that the 8830 is a ...

Thanks DoubleHelix, I guess I was hoping that VZW would at least acknowledge the Web reports since they are pretty massive. It's an odd complaint re backgound noise, since it's not the 8830 owner's who are hearing it, but rather, the folks that they are talking with. I think that may explain why the complaints are not as widespread as they are. Do you have any thoughts re what others have suggested re disabling "enhanced audio"? My sense ...

Oct 26, 2007, 6:29 AM
in the BlackBerry 8830 forum

Thanks. But are you talking about what you are hearing on your phone, or what the people you are talking to are reporting? I have not heard of 8830 users complaining about hearing background noise. The complaints are coming from the people they are talking to.

Re: Clarity on Sound and Call Clarity

Thanks DoubleHelix. I've called VZW and RIM and they deny ever hearing of this problem. I could understand it if they deny it is a problem, though I'm troubled that the designated experts in the companies claim that there have been no complaints or reports, particularly given the massive number of threads on the Internet. I would find it more reassuring if they at least acknowledged the complaints if not the problem.

Did you get reports of backgound noise prior to making the setting change and then stop getting them afterwards? 8830 owners are not complaining that they hear backgound noise. They are getting complaints from people on the other end of the line.

Thanks very much. However, the issue is how the call sounds to those you are speaking to. All say the 8830 has great sound and reception. The problem seems to be that the people on the other end of the phone hear a lot of background noise. Has anyone out there experienced this problem and aware of whether or not the diabling of the "auto volume control" makes any difference? Thank you very much.

Still Would Appreciate Input on Background Noise
Oct 20, 2007, 7:43 AM
in the BlackBerry 8830 forum

I was about to switch to the 8830 but began reading about background noise issues on the 8830. Note that the problem is not one heard by 8830 users but by the people that they are talking with. There are several threads on this site, and massive numbers of threads on other sites about this issue. I talked with VZW and RIM and all denied ever hearing about this, which is odd because real problem ...

in the BlackBerry 8830 forum

To followup on my earlier question, is anyone aware of (1) acknowledgement from Verizon, Sprint or RIM of a background noise issue, and (2) if so, if this has been fixed or if a fix is in the works. It seems like the reports are a little bit too widespread to be one person's imagination. I would like to get this phone but would be quite troubled if I was buying into problems like this. See blackberry forums ...

Has there been any resolution of this? It seems like it might be ignored since receivers are complaining rather than the owners of the phone. Any input would be appreciated.

There were some earlier threads about sound quality in terms of the phone picking up noise on the 8830 caller's end. Any more information about this? Was there ever a correction or software update? Do people still experience this? Thank you.

Porting Contacts from Other Verizon Phones
Sep 29, 2007, 7:56 AM
in the BlackBerry 8830 forum

I currently have a Blackberry 8700 with T-Mobile and a Samsung U540 with Verizon Wireless. I am considering merging both into the Blackberry 8830 and discontinuing my T-Mobile Service. I believe that my company will be able to maintain all that is on my current blackberry, but is there a way to merge my contacts from my regular cell phone on to the 8830? Thanks.

Screen in Direct Sunlight?/Volume/Weight/Battery
Sep 23, 2007, 5:51 PM
in the Motorola RAZR2 V9m forum

I have VZW and I am considering switching from the u540 to the V9m. I would like feedback on the following issues: 1) How visible are inside and outside screens in direct sunlight? Most phones I have had do not do too well. I heard that there was a newer technology at work with the v9m. Any truth to this? 2) Volume - One reviewer said that the v9m volume could be a "tad louder." Any other thoughts ...

You might want to check out the Samsung A930. It is a very good phone. Also, a new RAZR (the KRAZR I think) is due out in the next month or so.

Do you find that you are having the problem at a particular location, or perhaps when you are calling a location? I had a similar issue with T-Mobile. If you are typically calling from the same location, it could be a cell tower issue though it is odd that it works fine when you take it off speaker. Also, if you are typically calling the same number, it might be the receiver's connection or even phone. If ...

Aug 17, 2006, 6:36 AM
in the Samsung SCH-A930 forum

Generally pretty poor battery life. With moderately light use (30-45 minutes of talk time, brief 3-4 minute use of MobileWeb), I seem to lose about 2 of 4 bars in 12-14 hours. I usually charge every night, even if not fully drained, which some have advised against. Some technicians have advised fully draining the battery and then re-charging. I didn't think it worked that way anymore.

You might want to check with VW customer service first. I actually think you can download saved address book information from another phone if you pay for that service via "Get It Now."

Re: RAZAR with Extended Life Battery: Size?
Aug 2, 2006, 5:23 PM
in the Motorola RAZR V3m forum

I saw one of these and it did not look bad. It does seem to add a little bit of heft and protrudes slightly from the back. Kind of gives it an interesting look though. I actually have the same question re the Samsung A930 extended battery.

Re: Samsung A930 or LG8300 or Razr V3M

How much weight, heft does the extended battery for the a930 add? Does it visibly protrude much from the back?

Re: Add to the T9?
Aug 1, 2006, 5:59 PM
in the Samsung SCH-A930 forum

Actually, it is easier than Verizon explained. Try staying in "word" mode, then press the 0 key and other options should show up. I tried it and it worked fine. I really like the phone, but seems like the manuals, etc. do not offer very good explanations of things... can be very confusing for someone who is a life long Motorola user!

Extended Battery?
Jul 30, 2006, 8:24 PM

Anyone have any experience with the extended battery in terms of how much time it adds to talk time, etc. Also the weight, look of the battery? I thought I read somewhere that it adds quite a bit of bulk to the phone.

Sound on RAZR V3m
Jul 30, 2006, 11:50 AM
in the Motorola RAZR V3m forum

I just switched to Verizon but got the Samsung A930. Good phone but with some issues, particularly battery strength and some quirks w/text messaging. Volume for talk is excellent, though. I am considering switching to the V3m with extended battery, but was wondering how the volume is for talk? I have had a T-Mobile RAZR V3 which I generally liked, but sometimes the volume was a little low (even at the highest level), particularly outside on the ...

Re: Samsung T609

in the Samsung SGH-T609 forum

One of the reviewers calls the phone ugly... probably not a big deal if it is but is functional. It does seem, though, that someone at T-Mobile has an odd eye for style.. the V360 and other phones have gotten the same criticism, mainly for color choice.

Edge?
Dec 26, 2005, 8:12 AM
in the Motorola V360 / V361 forum

I returned my v360 for a number of reasons outlined in a review and an earlier posting. One reason seemed to be that Edge really didn't work. One thing I found of interest in another forum was a report that Motorola would not be producing any new phones with Edge this year because of problems with their chipsets, which is why the PEBL won't have Edge. This makes me wonder if it is working correctly with the v360 (and ...

Edge?
Dec 26, 2005, 8:06 AM
in the Motorola RAZR V3i / V3t / V3e / V3r forum

I read in one earlier post that T-Mobile will not be coming out with any more phones with Edge because of issues with the Edge chipsets. I'd really like to see a Razr phone with Edge. I was not aware of a problem, but it is interesting that I used two phones with Edge, the v330, and the v360, and the Web connection seemed no faster than GPRS, maybe even slower with the v360. I acutally returned to v360 and ...

in the Motorola RAZR V3i / V3t / V3e / V3r forum

My 2 cents: Actually, I usually find T-Mobile store reps proudly ignorant of knowing much of anything. They are usually at least marginally pleasant, but other than the names, ranks, and serial numbers of the phones on display, and the plan types, they seem to know a lot less about their company and its product plans than your average Phonescoop.com reader. That's about my bigget complaint about T-Mobile, though. The call center people are slightly better. I have ...

Re: I got mine
Dec 24, 2005, 7:41 PM
in the Motorola V360 / V361 forum

I finally got mine and took it back (see review for more details). It could have been I just got a lemon but seemed like way too much on the phone was not working (bluetooth, edge, AIM) and the manual did not give much of a clue about how to use other features (e.g., music player). Also, I found the buttons a little hard to press, although that was a very minor factor in my return. ...

Increasing the Volume on Phone
Dec 23, 2005, 6:28 PM
in the Motorola RAZR V3 forum

I just got the v3 today, generally like it, but the volume is just a little bit low when I am outside in traffic... I have it turned up to 7 which seems to be the highest. Any suggestions? Would prefer an uncomplicated solution!!! (besides my getting a hearing aid!) Thanks!
