VX 8600 and TomTom GPS
Dec 27, 2007, 11:38 AM
in the LG VX-8600 / AX-8600 forum

I just got a TomTom GPS for Xmas and I'm having trouble with one of the features. You can use your GPS as a speaker phone, and you're supposed to be able to export your phone's directory to the GPS, but when I try doing it I get the message on the GPS that it can't connect to my phone directory. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or is that one of those features that VZW turns off? TIA

Is my phone dying?

This has just started today. I'll be sitting here and my phone will start buzzing, like the power-up/power-down vibrate, then the inside screen goes dark. It's hard to get it to power down, and sometimes when I try I just get into a pattern of recurrent buzzing, going dark, etc., like it's trying to reboot itself. Is my unit toast? Could it be the battery? TIA

Who needs OnStar?
Oct 23, 2005, 11:34 AM
in the Techs & Trends forum

I was watching another one of those heartwarming Onstar commercials and it occurred to me: who needs it? This is essentially a technology that places a cellular telephone call upon the occurrence of certain events (pushing the button, having your air bag deploy). It requires GM to maintain a call center, probably a pretty big one, to respond to calls twenty-four hours a day. Couldn't a car manufacturer add a very small device to their air bag assemblies that would ...

If you already know this is the phone you want you can get it at Amazon.com, rather than going into a physical store, and get a better price. When I got mine my price was $100 net back to me after all rebates, which is still what Amazon is doing, I think.

Please refrain from using "gay" as a term of derision. You wouldn't do the same with "Blakc", "African-American", "Hispanic", or "female", would you?

I think it looks very cool, and the functionality as a phone sounds pretty good, but I just don't see it. You can get a phone for free, and you can even walk away with a hundred bucks in your pocket, so I couldn't justify spending any money at all for one.

weird time display issue

in the Motorola V265 / V266 / V276 forum

I've had this happen to me a couple of times and I don't really understand it. One of the main reasons I got the 265 is the tri-mode feature, since here in Vermont I sometimes have to drive out of range of the digital network. Twice now, in the past couple of weeks, I've been in Hyde Park, an area with only analog service, and found that my time display had reset to 12:00 and started running again from ...

chaging problem

in the Motorola v60i (GSM) / v60gi forum

A friend has a v60i with a charging problem. Periodically (or frequently) when she tries to charge it she gets a message that says "Unable to charge". Sometimes if she keeps unplugging it and plugging it in she can get it to work. She went back to the store and the guy told her the only thing to do is buy a new phone. She is now trying a car charger to see if that will work, but she suspects ...

Set your name as the banner, huh? How did you do that? I tried that with mine and it stopped letting me enter letters before I had my whole name spelled. I assure you that my name is shorter than "Verizon Wireless", but I tried a couple of times and it wouldn't go beyond the "o" in McCullough. Any ideas, or is there nothing I can do? TIA

I've been trying to use it more than I ordinarily would in the last few days to test how much I like it, and I think I've come to the conclusion that I had the volume too high. (I noticed it when I was listening to my messages and my wife commented on how loud it was.) Turning it down seems to have improved it.

Sound quality

in the Motorola V265 / V266 / V276 forum

I did a lot of research and I just bought a V265, based mainly on reviews indicating it has great reception and call quality. Now that I've had it in my hand (and up to my ear) I'm wondering if there's something wrong. I'm kind of dissatisfied with the voice quality. I don't know how I sound to people, but what I hear doesn't sound that good. I'm tempted to see if I can exchange it at Amazon for ...

I also noticed it wasn't in the Verizon print ad this morning, and it had been earlier this week.

I haven't gotten mine yet, but I went with the V265. The 7000 looks very sharp, and it is well reviewed, but the two main points that influenced my choice were the lack of analog roaming and the lack of a speaker phone. I expect to be using the speaker phone in my car, and I consider the lack to be a big drawback. CNET had a good review of the 700 (actually, of both)that you might want to look ...
