They'll just change the way sell and package location data to 3rd parties. Location data is a HIGHLY valuable commodity, people are willing to pay BIG $$$ for it. The telecom companies will eventually start monetizing it again somehow.

No... ATT/Verizon are B17 and B13 respectively. Band 17 is a subset of Band 12. So I think that is what they mean by "competes". TMobile's B12 has no plans of going away anytime soon. Edit...Clarified...Fixed mistakes

CDMA2000/EVDO needs to go away. It's vastly inferior and taking up valuable spectrum that could be refarmed to better serve the now predominantly world standard GSM+HSPA-3.5G / and LTE-4G customer market.

That's why I said "reduce the chance", while I don't believe that Apple users are safe, I do believe that Apple carries more of a do-no-evil reputation for data privacy than outfits like Google or FB.

Imagine that! Apps and companies that turn the end-user into the PRODUCT - and advertisers/corporations/highest bidders the real CUSTOMER. It's a race to the bottom to extract the most revenue per unit sold. Android users are subject to the anti-privacy trifecta - Google, Facebook, Samsung... 3 companies that are chomping at the bit to show you ads, acquire your data and then sell it to anyone who is interested. And then turn around and show you more ads. This ...

They'd have to do far more than just enabling FM radio on phones. The broadcasters (I'm looking at you, Emmis) would have to remove 75% of the advertising and other aural garbage that they spew out over each hour for me to even be interested in tuning back in to their programming.

Was getting Amber alerts at all hours for missing children 3 hours away. They've also started interrupting radio broadcasts around here that activate the EAS tones, these have reached such a status quo that I don't care about your missing kid anymore and I don't feel sorry for you when your ex-husband kidnaps your little brats. When the radio comes on with an EAS alert I just change the station. Yeah, during the 1 in 1,000,000 ...

I enabled scam protection and a few days a week I still get these annoying "Resort Rewards Center" robocalls from random phone numbers from the same area code/prefix as my cell phone number. The scammers always find a loophole to work around the system. The lazy FCC needs to get off their asses and enact some legislation to fix this mess.

Not surprising. Everything Samsung does is a knock-off attempt to copy Google or replace Google's original software with some lazy attempt at some half baked spyware/data collection service. No thanks! I'd rather give Apple my money any day.

The makers of the cell site equipment must love them too. Sprint as well. Which makes me wonder, they just got a big chunk of their network upgraded for 700 mhz support. I wonder how much equipment they will have to recycle when they install the 600+700+1700+1900 hardware.

All I want to know is, how will 28000 MHz spectrum affect the number of cell sites required to serve that frequency? T-Mobile has made such great strides lately by overlaying 700 MHz LTE on top of their 1700/2100 MHz LTE, but I'd guess with 28 GHz cell sites they'd have to place antennas at every single intersection to give coverage.

They could've been refarming their 1900 GSM space into LTE during their 700 and 1700/2100 upgrades, but instead they're going to keep up 2G for the 5% of their customers/IOT devices still on their network. I'm still getting EDGE in many rural areas or roaming on AT&T 2G even where their coverage maps show LTE being deployed. I really doubt their claims that they are going to see an increase due to at&t 2G churn. Probably ...

This does not surprise me. Apple has adopted mediocrity as their status quo in the past few years. How are the physics of a 28000 MHz RF signal from a cell tower? What kind of coverage range are we talking for this theoretical 5G spectrum? Would they have to put a Cell tower on every street corner or in every bedroom? (Verizon is pretty much doing that everywhere around here for their 1700 MHz LTE anyway)
