Blackberry 7290...
Never had these problems while on ATT's TDMA network. My wife has it even worse with her Mororola Razr. My phone works great most of the time. The problem areas just happen to be where I spend a significant portion of time.
Thanks jinx...
That information is not easy to find. I really am not one of these people who hate cingular, and if service was better in the areas I mentioned, I would not give thought to switching.
2 yr contract termination fee?
Does anyone know off-hand what it will cost to terminate a 2 yr. contract early. I entered into a 2 yr. contract in Dec 2004.
Is the termination fee different if termination is made with less than one year left or more than one year left?
The reason I am asking is that my Cingular reception is poor and unreliable at my house (south Shreveport, LA), and I also have to drive through about a 2-3 mile "dead ...
Re: Mandatory Area Code
Don't have dial local calls as 10 digit numbers where I live (Shreveport, LA). But, I have all the numbers in my blackberry address book stored as 10 digits 'cause its only a matter of time.
So some lawfirm will make a freakin ton...
and subscribers will get squat. My guess that the average claimant will be entitled to somewhere around $7.82, with the law firm garnering somewhere around 10 million.
Proble fixed by phone CS rep
On hold for 10 minutes initially and got a rep that told me I had the wrong call center - got disconnected, then hold for another 10 or so minutes, then a very polite and knowledgeable rep got me fixed up. Said he needed to enter the right platform for my Blackberry. Had me turn my phone off then on again, then called and left a test message. Works fine now.
What does CSE stand for (relative to Cingular wireless)?
I assume it is some higher level of customer svc. rep. training. Thanks for any info.
Cingular voicemail help
Hello,
I was hoping there was a rep or tech on the forum that could maybe give me a quick fix for this problem. I traded a recently purchased v551 for a Blackberry 7290 Thursday, and everything is working fine, except that my calls do not roll over to voicemail when not answered or ignored. It was working prior to the switch. Could switching phones/plans have something to do with it?

Cingular migration experience
I recently found myself wanting to upgrade from my ATTWS Motorola v60 on the old TDMA network to a phone with more capablilties, specifically internet.
I went to the 2 Cingular stores in my city, one of which was always a Cingular store, and one of which has always been Cingular. The reps I interacted with in the always Cingular store were not knowlegeable at all, and rather blase about helping. However, in the other store, ...
Re: SIM card vs. phone software
Thanks for the good info. Regarding the 7100, I primarily like the more phone-like dimensions as opposed to the "square" 7290. I do not currently own a Blackberry, but have considered turning in my 2 week old Motorola v551 in favor of the 7290. I will probably just wait for a Cingular version of the 7100. Thanks for input.
SIM card vs. phone software
hypothetically if I bought an unlocked device, such as a Blackberry 7100T which is made for T-Mobile, would the phone be able to connect to the internet? Is the mini-browser program part of the phone, or does the SIM card tell the phone how the browser connects? I would expect that I could make calls, and receive SMS messages, but as for internet, and possibly voice mail functions, I am not sure.
Also, is this phone ...
Clarifying my question...
what if it is a model that Cingular has in their lineup? I understand that they (Cingular) would not service the phone, but should I expect it to work properly? Take for example the Moto v551, would it need to be specifically a Cingular v551 (if there is any such thing), or could it be any unlocked v551?
A second question. Hypothetically if you were to acquire a new phone from Cingular, would you simply place the ...
Cingular Text Msg. billing question.
Regarding plans that include a certain number of txt. msgs. such as 250, 1500, etc. are both incoming and outgoing messages counted in this number?
Thanks for info.
Re: Migration question Blue to Orange...
I-49 corridor was one of my main concerns, and one of the areas where I really need service. In-laws live in New Orleans, and Thibodaux and we also travel to BR quite a bit. ATTWS has always given me good service in these areas. Thanks for reply.
Thanks for explanation..one follow-up quest.
That is precisely the information I was looking for, and you are very kind to leave such a detailed response.
Just to make sure I am straight on this, if I migrate, contract for a plan, and acquire a phone from Cingular, then all I would have to do is use that SIM card in any unlocked phone that I am unable to acquire? The way I understand your explanation, I won't need any assistance from Cingular, ...
Cingular telesales rep told me...
That I couldn't switch back to Blue if I canceled Orange in the case that I was not satisfied with coverage reception.
He further asserted that coverage/reception would not be an issue, and that since GSM was newer technology, it would provide "better" coverage, and that I would have coverage with the new network anywhere I has coverage with the old network. If this is indeed true, then I guess my original question would be rendered moot.
How to activate an unlocked phone...
(1) does Cingular "frown" upon buying an unlocked phone from a third party then having it activated to use on their network?
(2) coming from ATTWS, how would I port my number in the case of buying an unlocked phone? Is it as simple as purchasing a SIM chip, installing it , then calling Cingular, or do I have to take the device into a retail store, or purchase the chip directly from Cingular?
(3) is this difficult ...
Migration question Blue to Orange...
I am considering migrating to get a better rate plan in addition to a phone with more features. I currently have a Motorola v60 and am looking at Moto v551 or Razr. I have been happy with the coverage/reception with AWS, although it is fairly expensive (650 one rate minutes, 79.95/mo, no free nights/weekends or MTM, and per message text messages). With the Cingular plans offered here, I can get comparable minutes, plus free nights/weekends, free ...
