Re: EVDO Speeds
Real world speeds range from 0.5 to 1.3Mbps. Which is not bad, after all.
With the moto G. Other phones may have lesser performance.
Not in pure speed terms.
Apps open faster on the iphone than in any other device because they are written in as specific programming language, and they are converted to an very pecific computer language before they are run by the OS.
All this vs the current Dalvik (JIT) runtime environment from Android, that compiles apps before running them, even though high end Android devices often have higher hardware specs when compared to the Iphone, Android devices still lag a little bit when compared to ...
Re: Why Not Nexus 5?
Not a good device for the common user.
I still think
https://www.phonescoop.com/articles/di scuss.php?fm=m&ff=13176&fi=3270501
Again, Eric's review was very objective about this device. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who is looking for a primary cellphone.
I'm surprised
Nobody commented how fast this phone is. I'd say above the Iphone, forget about Android android devices.
But still
"Browser
...Browsing speeds were acceptable over LTE and HSPA+, but just barely"
This is a great review, regardless. It perfectly describes this device and it's performance, from the end user's perspective.
I was going to ask him the same
The international version of this phone (has a dual sim :D ), has the same specifications, and is HSPA+ only.
Eric's review is consistent with my experience with this device. I have to say that this review is 100% objective.
People still think
that the nexus is a premium device. It is not.
The HTC nexus one was a great premium device on its own, by it's time. It was supposed to encourage hardware makers and carriers to start making premium android devices. It accomplished it's goal, now everyone knows that Android is one of the best (3) platforms (presumably the best)
Google is not trying to impress anyone with their designs, the Nexus phone serves its purpose, being a development platform.
The phone is being reviewed
from a common user's perspective.
Some people is thinking on getting te N5 because of it's price point (given it's tech level) and because it will continue receiving updates from google for about 2-3 years. Though, theese people do care about battery life, camera, audio and signal performance.
This phone will suit software developpers for sure, but most people will not be happy with it, specially if they bought it to use it as as their primary phone. They'd be doing ...
Does it have the same low-power processor that's on the Moto X?
The secondary low-power chip that is always watching/sensing/listening and handles those specific behaviors of the Moto X. That would make this device feel a lot like a premium device.
...sporting a larger display
faster display...
Is that correct?
Re: Nokia 521
I would pick it, even compared with the alcatel fierce, it has better performance in general.
The alcatel fierce has one of the worst capacitive touch displays I've used in recent memory, second to that of the alcatel evolve. The proximity/light sensor doesn't work that good, sometimes you're in the middle of a call and want to activate the speakerphone, but the screen won't turn on because the dumb sensor isn't sensitive enough to know that your face is not ...
Just about time
This will make both, the apps to run faster, and to use less RAM when executed. We'll see IOS like performance in mid range Android devices running KitKat (if not supperior).
I don't think if this will affect the way in which Android Apps are developed. Building apps for IOS in objective C is quite complicated, building apps for Android is way easier the way that it is right now.
Re: disappointed
I agree with you, customization is what differences Android from IOS in the most part, from the common user's perspective.
But I have to dissent from one of your comments above...
My 486DX2 runs Windows XP (I have 96MB of RAM memory, yeah baby 8) )
Re: HEY RICH
did you say spell-heck?
It looks cool
I will check that video on my break.
Re: That is going to need a case.
Sounds legit. They could charge that much, being it a novelty.
Driver Issues
Not like you're installing a printer or scanner. LOL. Not even a graphics card. Phones use SOCS for computing, they either support the hardware or not. Putting separate components for essential tasks (such as radio modules or so) would signicantly increase the bulk and power ussage of any device.
Most likely discrete devices like cameras, speakers, and even ram modules will be interchangeable, but not the CDMA module for a GSM one.
Maybe even a display or fingerprint reader!
Battery Life
What's a normal day of use for you guys?
I've had a few smartphones over the last 2 years and most handset's I've had, have barely made it through 10-12 hours of moderate use.
This is the configuration that I use:
Auto brightness, bluetooth radio off, wifi off, HSPA data on, no LTE, GPS off.
Apps that I have installed and are often pulling data from the network.
Gmail, Skype, Google Hangouts, Whatsapp, Line, Facebook Messenger (I've disabled Facebook notifications), Twitter.
I check my phone ...
Re: OH NO!
LOL
Sounds like
A battery killer for me.
Just what you said
As they do in Japan.
Micro and pico-cells in shopping malls, parks, buildings, etc.
...But the F6 has infrared remote
I have to check that.
Besides; I will pm you some information about unlocking the bootloader of the L9.
Re: This'll be interesting
You've answered your own question.
Yes, a special version of android 4.4 will be made for Ara devices, and the drivers will be available to install through an application available from Google Play.
I wonder how will it be when chinese manufacturers start making batteries, memory modules, cameras and radio components compatible with Ara phones.
Yes, I'm talking to you Foxconn!
Re: That is going to need a case.
I think that the one in the picture is just for ilustrative purposes (looks cool, though).
It would make a lot more sense to think that you will have to remove the back cover of the phone, along with the battery, sim card and memory card to access the interchangeable parts.
The resulting phone will be a bit bulkier, but, not so much, given modern standards.
The thing I'll be happy about for the most part, is the chance of upgrading external ...
more comfortable when placed in back pockets...
If you know what I mean
Re: F6 vs Blu life play.?
My concern about the LifePlay is the way the micro USB port is fixed to the main circuit board, you may have to be very careful when charging it (don't touch it) to avoid breaking it within a couple of months. So far, I have not played enough with it to know for sure. It may be that it just looks like that.
In overall, I prefer the software customizations on Android from LG. But the big, high resolution display ...
Besides
It is not a pen-tile matrix display, is not even an AMOLED display. Is a good LCD with great viewing angles (most likely In Plane Switching).
The guy is complaining just because.
I'd go with the L9
Even with it lacking LTE. It performs better in general.
Here as well

Thank you.

Re: o.k. never had this call before
A co worker had a sales call like this.
Caller: The address is listed differently because we use the ordinance nu... whatcha doing baby -someone in the background interrupted-
Caller: I'm just trying to, no, please calm down for a little FLAP! (you can hear that someone slapped the caller real hard, on her face I think), oh wait, I just wanted to ahh...
Oh yes! F**k me hard.
CS Rep: Ma'am, are you still there...
Caller: Oh yes, ohhhh... I'm sorrry I want ...
Or
He was just wondering if he was going to be able to share full 1080p content with his TV set.
Which I think that would be quite un-posible with the 620, because the output resolution is hardware dependant as well.
Re: This would be a nice phone...
I was thinking just the same. There's an international version of this phone (with the same exact specs but just sightly different look) it's UI performs smoothly, not as blazing fast as an elite phone but consistently smooth.
I'm surprised that this phone showed such poor battery life, given that verizon has the best available coverage. Its GSM counterpart performs a lot better.
Re: Hi All
Alcatel Xpop on ebay look for you must.
The best part of this article
Is that there some thumbnails below indicating that there are more pictures of this device. They disappear when you open the article, though.
Re: Review
It completely outclasses my 56.6K PCI dial up modem. It's blazing fast. 8)
Re: Samsung Galaxy S4 mini??
https://www.phonescoop.com/articles/article.p hp?a=12564
Not yet available in the US because at about $400, it's still a pricey device (And not as feature rich, nor as handsome as the HTC One Mini, though, the S mini has more RAM)
Carriers opted for the better looks of the HTC One mini, as they thought that people would preffer it.
The S4 Mini will most likely be available in 6 months at $0.1 with at two year contract with AT&T.
Re: Better than Maxx?

The same minus the battery life. The DROID MAXX's battery life ifs only second to the previous RAZR MAXX HD, then it is followed by the older RAZR MAXX then the Samsung Galaxy Note II and then the Note III.
