Availablility update

This phone/phablet/ is now sold by Consumer Cellular. They're a GSM-based MVNO. We've used them for the past year and couldn't be happier with their service.

Has it been the experience of Focus S owners to be able to operate the phone single-handed? I'm trying to balance single hand operation vs. comfortable screen size. Coming from a Dell Streak 5, perhaps you can understand my perspective.

Why the two different screen sizes?

Does anybody know why the AT&T version of this phone comes with a 4.27" screen vs. the T-Mobile and Sprint versions which measure 4.52"?

Thanks for the reply. I've yet to use the shake control in the w580 so this added feature in the w760 would not be lost on me.

Does anybody here know the difference between the Walkman player in the W760 (v3.0) and the Walkman player in the W580 (v2.0)?

Hazy photos?
Mar 13, 2008, 10:55 PM
in the Sony Ericsson W580 / S500 forum

My wife noticed her W580 brings up already taken photos a little fuzzy, then comes into focus a second or two later. Does anybody experience the same thing? If so, does AT&T know about this as a common problem or is this normal for the phone? Thanks.

After I configured the phone for internet settings along with text & picture messaging, the Cingular name was replaced by AT&T. Imaginary problem solved.

Now that I've debranded.....
Feb 28, 2008, 1:10 AM
in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

I'm asking those who've debranded their phones (as I just finished doing) why the Cingular name still shows up on the main screen? I thought every vestige of the Cingular name would disappear. Also, any advice or tips to make the experience better would be welcome.

Voice dialing with a SE Headset
Aug 3, 2007, 2:38 AM
in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

Has anyone here who might own a Sony Ericsson bluetooth headset ever found a way to kick off a call using voice commands only. I've been able to do it with my wife's Jabra BT headset but not my SE HBH-GV435 headset. If you know how could explain how to set that up? Thanks.

Re: I'm Confused

in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

I can see how your hopes would be raised by such a description but I think you're reading into the Moto headphones something that isn't there. True, it can accept streaming audio from a capable phone but the headphones can't make the W810i phone transmit music; it wasn't designed to. The Motorola product page says your can listen to music and conversation. In the case of a W810i, it's voice only. You do have an alternative. The Plantronics 590a ...

Re: Questions about this phone
Jun 9, 2007, 1:01 AM
in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

I can only speak to one of your questions. I didn't know it was possible to listen to music wirelessly on the W810 until tonight. Look for a question called "Buying Question (W810 or W660i)" in the forum. Read all the exchanges. It'll tell you how to beat the design of the W810 and still manage to use a Bluetooth wireless headset to listen to music. It looks like its worth a shot. Let me just say that even if ...

Voice recording issue
May 10, 2007, 12:11 AM
in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

I recently took an interest in using the voice recorder to record telephone conversations. For those who have trouble remembering details of conversation, this feature is a godsend. What I haven't figured out yet is whether its possible to not have to record a new sound or note to get to the audio file I want to play back. Am I doing something wrong or is there a way to not have to do a recording first?

Re: working around with low volume
Apr 11, 2007, 3:55 PM
in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

I'm vaguely aware of drivers that can boost both speaker volumes at the expense of added distortion. (Your mid-range is more exaggerated as a result, kind of like my old Sanyo PM8200 with speakerphone capability.) Because of the same low volume issue, I do 95% of my calling and conversation via a SE Bluetooth headset. That's my solution. (I don't trust the 3rd party generic driver solution. Too many "what ifs.....") I review the SE HBH-GV435 at Amazon ...

Sorry to hear debranding was a little underwhelming. Did debranding affect handset volume? If you have it, bluetooth headset sound quality improvement?

I have heard of this being possible but I have my doubts. Have you tried calling Cingular Tech support about this? Maybe they're a good place to start. IMO, they have nothing to lose by telling you the truth.

Excellent article. Now I understand the dilemma. As for the phone I can't help but believe that it would work best in the OEM state but to each their own. Glad you're enjoying the phone.

You might try looking at daydeal.com. There's an armband case there for the W810 for $9.99. From the the looks of it, it's only big enough for the phone only. It doesn't look big enough to accept the stereo headset connector and still securely close it so keep that in mind.

Perhaps you could share the link to the report. I and perhaps others would like to read it. Had I known at the outset that staying within brand for my Bluetooth headset would not have yielded the result I was seeking, I probably would've have gone with the Plantronics 510 but I guess I'll have to live with my SE headset. If you're interested, I wrote a somewhat detailed review concerning my experience with the HBH-GV435 at Amazon. It ...

Re: Signal Enhancers?
Feb 17, 2007, 7:02 AM
in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

There is an alleged signal booster antenna that gets marketed advertising that it'll boost your signal significantly. It actually goes inside your battery compartment. Though its probably a scam to prey on people who were dissatisfied with their signal strength, I bought and used two of them in my analog cellphone days. They usually gave me an extra fluxuating bar or two but thats about it. If you can find them for real cheap at a dollar store, you ...

in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

Even using a Sony Ericsson HBH-GV435 Bluetooth headset along with the W810, I still can't use voice activated dialing via bluetooth. I was so concerned about it I called SE tech support. They maintain that it will work provided you use the same exact intonation and volume when you recorded your voice tags. I can understand that but only to a certain degree. My last phone, a Sanyo PM-8200 (a non-bluetooth phone) would take commands via speakerphone with all ...

klee0032 - After reading your experience I browsed around wotanserver. Question - How do you know which firmware is the right one for the W810i? I saw 5 choices with several of them supporting "Generic USA (Brightpoint USA)". Did you understand everything that you read or did you kinda roll the dice after paying for your credit that it would all make sense?

I'm glad you found the headset you wanted. I was aware of the BH-600 but hadn't heard enough feedback to muster the courage to order it. The specs look very promising.

Crying? Just like everybody else? Whiner? What, are you a child? Express, don't emote. We love our phones. We brag them up everywhere we go. That's how Sony Ericsson racks up sales because Cingular certainly doesn't go out of their way to promote them. It's called "word of mouth". Does anyone reading this feel threatened or frightened to buy this phone because of what you've read in the forums? I'll answer for them for your benefit....NO! You remind me ...

We're all glad that you love your phone. Everybody loves their phone in their own way much like some people like their steak rare and others well done. Nobody will criticize you for leaving your phone just the way it is. Don't criticize people for wanting their phones differently from yours. They see a way to improve their experience, that's all. I admire your passion but ease up on people who want to do things differently from you. I'm ...

I decided to keep the HBH-GV 435 headset after all. If you're curious as to why, you can read my amazon.com review. It's entitled "Some features are outstanding, others not..." I meant to give it 4 stars and don't know how to correct it.

I'd like to do this by this same time next week. I finally saw when to let go of the "c" button. It was there the whole time. I'm still trying to convince myself that this is the best thing to do for the best W810i experience. What benefits are driving you to do this? For me, it's the promise of better bluetooth quality connections, preventing accidental internet sessions, etc.

Thanks for the info. Have you settled on a debranding web site? I kinda like wotanserver.com except that some of their instructions seem a little difficult to understand. At one point in the flashing process they tell you to hold down the "c" button but don't tell you when to let go of it. Have you or any of your friends debranded yet?

I'm interested too. I posted the same question at this forum without an answer. There must be "debranders" out there reading this. How about it people?

Re: W810 Low Earpiece Volume
Feb 5, 2007, 2:55 AM
in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

You write that your volume went up by about 100% but you didn't write about sound quality. Does it actually sound good or is there a compromise involved? I went to howardsforums.com and tried looking for the exact entry you refer to in the SE modding forum. Maybe you could reply with the entry (copied web address) that'll lead us to the acoustic drivers we need. (The low volume issue is my major gripe with the phone.) Also, is ...

Debranding-Flashing the W810 - before and after
Jan 31, 2007, 2:39 AM
in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

I was wondering if anybody has debranded their phone but lost their stored content after the procedure. I casually searched along this theme but I didn't see anybody report on this. Also, I'd like your folks' recommendation on why you chose your website to handle the debranding. What made you choose Davinci over Wotanserver and vice versa.

Album art?
Jan 27, 2007, 11:58 PM
in the Sony Ericsson W810 forum

It just came to me that I remember thinking that the SE W810 is capable of displaying album art while in the Walkman mode. Or am I confusing myself with what I've read of higher end SE models? If it can display the album art, how do we go about setting it up to do so?

Actually, I overlooked the automatic key lock option. That's probably the easiest method to manage against accidental calling. Thanks for your input cm8023.
