One more important thing to remember; According to Samsung, this device is capable of much further distances than 5000 sq. ft. but they had to restrict it due to FCC rules. The reason you lose coverage when walking outside is the same reason you have a drop in coverage inside. The materials your house is made of (probably made before wireless signals were prevalent) just dampen the waves, and kill the signal. You could put the airave on the first ...

Re: creating own ringers and watching Movies

ringers are stored on the memory of the phone, not the card. You would have to download the song as a ringtone for it to register that way. there are plenty of free sites that allow you to do this. Xingtone is currently not compatible with this phone. Video should be in the "MEDIA" folder on the card, and encoded in .mp4. You can load the videos into the Media Manager that comes with the phone on the CD, and it ...

Ok, I filtered some of the reviews and found this (usernames shortened so they are not being directly addressed): mav*****96 - at&t fanboy, look at recent posts. Highly unlikely this person has the phone or any real experience with it. jmp****en - probably a sprint customer, likely has the phone, but sparse review, and may be better off with a basic camera phone instead. ka*te - should own a PDA, that is what they think this phone is. It's not, go get ...

it's got it, but doesn't auto correct. That get's kind of annoying. It will underline the misspelled word and change it to red text. click on the word and it offers suggestions or to add it to the phone's dictionary. bro.

I currently have the 755p, which is pretty much the same thing as a centro (just larger) and I don't think that I'll switch completely to the instinct. I use more of the treo's pda stuff than the media stuff the instinct has. I wish the palm products had GPS built in though, that would make the decision a whole lot easier. We had a couple come in yesterday to get some instincts, but one of them ended up getting ...

I think document handling is a very important part of what sets a PDA apart from a smartphone or feature phone.

Their opinion is fine, we all want to know that, but we also want the facts. They failed to provide the facts correctly. They can say that it's the worst phone in the world, and that would be fine as long as they seperate their opinion from the facts.

there's no loyalty, I've been looking for a new job for a little while. Hopefully in a few weeks, I won't have to deal with any of this crap anymore. It's a waste of time to put so much effort on a phone. I realize that now. IT'S JUST A PHONE. I have NEVER stated that the iphone sucks. I've played around with a few different iphones, and while it is a cool product, I still would prefer my ...

no, it's a music phone with a touchscreen and some organizer features. This is what is known as a "Feature Phone" By a more loose definition (like the one on this site's glossary) you might be able to say that pretty much any feature phone is a PDA. What a pointless argument though. I was trying to help the OP with a question on IMAP. You could call the iPhone a laptop for all I care. An fruit by ...

I've got the 755p and I'm not sure the instinct has enough pda-like features to replace it. I'm fine with the way the calandar and notes work on the instinct, but no private entries, and the current software selection is limited since it's new. Once more apps are developed then maybe it will replace the 755p. This phone isn't a PDA, and neither is the iPhone or Glyde or any of these style of phones.

It's not that bad once you are used to it. If I'm entering a contact or something where I know there are multiple fields, I just leave it in the landscape mode. Really it's something you get used to pretty quick.

I am beyond over myself. I am calling it like it is. The review was poorly done. That's all. It has nothing to do with my personal opinion on the phone. It's a fact they messed up. Anyone that disagrees with me is entitled to their opinion.

Case in point: If there wasn't a commercial showing it, and the store rep didn't tell you, you would have NEVER figured out that the iPhone has a multi-touch screen. Since there is no other phone like it, you would have not known that it was even possible. So to the uninformed user, they will think their phone is broken becuase they can't zoom in to a picture. BUT... since apple made such a big deal about it, pretty much anyone ...

It's a simple samsung warranty code. The phone was manufactured in 2008, in the 5th month. So it's a pre-release model. There may be a very small number of handsets avaialable to the public with the 08.05 code, but significantly less than the 08.06. Sometimes they change up the code with some letters but usually that's only if there are two hardware versions in the same month.

I think you put it nicely here. This wasn't a comparo, it was a review. And while it's impossible to not compare it to competition, it seems strange to not even note some of the features that actually make it a great phone. I have noticed some things I don't like about it, but overall as a phone, I think it's one of the best phones sprint has had. A review as complete as the CNET review is what I ...

Hands on training session? What does apple have every week at their stores? exactly that. What is posted all over the apple site? videos of hands on training sessions. Nobody could have guessed that to zoom in and out you would pinch the screen, they had to tell you, the had to train you. If you didn't see that video, didn't talk to a store rep, and didn't read the book, you would have never figured that out.

Understanding User Interface Design...
Jun 18, 2008, 10:57 AM
in the Article: Review: Samsung Instinct forum

I've studied a lot of user interface design. What you are experiencing is called "false-expected-outcome" This means that you expected the phone to guess what you wanted, rather than doing what the phone was designed to do. Example: It's pretty standard for the command "Bold" to be performed with [CTRL]+[B]. On this website (or anywhere in Internet Explorer) using that key combo actually brings up the "Organize Favorites." That's not what I expected to have happen. But since IE is ...

but its not. If you had spent a few minutes with an Instinct Advocate at the sprint store. (Which most customers buying the phone will be able to do.) You would have been able to see how the phone works and would have posted a better review of the phone. This is exactly why there are advocates at every single corporate owned store. To filter out "engineering issues" (read as user error) like this. You really just can't admit that ...

the software that comes with it is Sprint Media Manager, and Sprint Desktop Sync. My "evaluation" period ended for desktop sync, even though I never even opened the program. I am not sure what that actually does. It's possible that it syncs with outlook but to what extent I don't know.

You have a good point. I got heated because if we were all playing fair, then the best phone would win. But when respected sources don't give it the same kind of review as the phone it's supposed to compete or not compete with, then it weighs the odds unfairly. I'm not expecting the instinct to outsell the iPhone, really I'm not even expecting it to come close. It's a phone for a specific kind of user. I just ...

There's a rumor that a company is making this compatible with mobile office. so more than just syncing with outlook, it may be able to view/edit office docs like word and excel sheets. The stuff you are talking about is software related, and with the SDK that is available, it's only a matter of time before something is developed for it. because it would be redundant. There's the treo the centro, the curve, pearl, and 8830, touch, mogul, ace, and 700wx, that's 9 phones that sync with outlook. Do we really need another one? There's no such thing as an "ALL MARKET SEGMENTS" phone. This phone is the high-end feature phone, not a PDA. It syncs e-mail and your contacts wirelessly, and will in the future sync the calendar. What else do you need outlook for?

There are 1200+ people who have been using this phone as a training device for the past couple weeks, and I'm sure all 1200+ would disagree with some things in the review.
