Re: so hey mr canadian guy
Proper storage of weapons is key and something I fully support.
Re: So you admit
I don't even think Speedy watches Fox.
CNN reported it as well for most of the day. Or at least stated that there were reports of an assault rifle being on the scene but that they couldn't confirm that it was used in the shooting. They were still talking about that when I got off work at 6pm, so 5pm EST.
Re: Are you really that incapable of understanding
There were threads the day of. One of assault rifles talking about an MSNBC talking point. Okie dook...whatever the hell his name is started it.
Jangi (i can't spell anyone's name) posted a link in a thread speedy started the day of quoting some guy asking if it was time to consider gun control.
I haven't created a single thread and have only poked my head in any discussion to say quite plainly that ANY manner of gun control outside ...
Re: so hey mr canadian guy
It's not a strawman.
I've been given the impression that you're for some manner of gun control. I am too, but you're the one who implied that bans and controls like in Canada would be part of a solution.
I say it's just something a civilized society does. We train people to drive vehicles too because they're dangerous things. People should be trained with weapons as well if they want to own them.
But having a test for ...
Re: so hey mr canadian guy
So long as you realize that even if you institute those controls crazy people are still going to get guns and criminals are still going to steal them and use them for crime.
Having tests and training doesn't prevent anyone from getting a gun. It just means they've demonstrated that they understand how to use, store and hopefully respect weapons. It wont stop guys from shooting up schools. that's a different problem altogether.
Re: Are you really that incapable of understanding
People in this forum were calling for gun control.
People discussing it on all major network news were talking about whether this would be the tipping poeple in the conversation about gun control
People today are still talking about gun control
A day after the incident we have a promise to propose legislation on gun control.
Seriously, what is wrong with your head? When the conversation wasn't directly about gun control on the major networks (I mostly watched CNN that day ...
Re: Crazy people will indeed do crazy things.
That and making overnight superstars out of the offenders.
Re: Where did I call for stricter gun control
You replied to the wrong post genius.
Re: so hey mr canadian guy
I could go buy an illegal handgun right now if I wanted to.
The idea that everyone would own a gun and shoot guns and murder people with guns simply because we open the flood gates or that they don't because those gates are closed is misguided.
It's the same argument people make for keeping drugs illegal. Implying that if we lifted the prohibition on them tomorrow everyone would be smoking weed and selling crack to children or ...
Re: Shocker! No conservatives willing to admit wrong and appologize
That's slightly different. Not entirely but there is a difference between public servants relating inaccurate information to the public and for profit news relating inaccurate information.

Are you really this unaware?
Re: Shocker! No conservatives willing to admit wrong and appologize
So?
Does Speedy being Speedy mean we have to have a left wing version of him in here?
Re: so you don't believe in first amendment rights
You know you do have the right to not be assaulted. That's why assault isn't legal.
Re: Shocker! No conservatives willing to admit wrong and appologize
For the rifle in the car?
IT WAS REPORTED ON THE NEWS THEN DISCUSSED IN HERE.
No one was 'wrong', the information being presented in the media was inaccurate. There is a big difference between those two things.
Re: I think it's a bit ridiculous...
You should probably take a look at how easily it is to acquire guns but little else. Crazy people are going to do crazy things. Norway has some reasonably strict gun laws and Brevik was still able to go on a rampage.
Take a look at your culture not your 'gun culture' for answers.
Re: So you admit
You can't blame someone for being wrong when they were using the best evidence available to them at the time.
Initial reports said the rifle was in the car. Discussion commenced based upon that piece of information. End of story. It's not a matter of being man enough to admit something or not. I heard those very same reports and so did you if you were watching the coverage early on.
Re: so
No the point is the problem with guns in America isn't about too much or too little control so arguments for or against gun control will not resolve anything.
Re: or you could say
I wouldn't say any of those things because I wouldn't make the case for or against gun control based on the actions of maniacs/criminals.
Re: This upsets me enough to make a thread about it
It strikes more to the point to say that c&c laws don't necessarily prevent anything. He could just as easily say that A&M didn't allow for guns on the premises or whatever and then you're caught explaining your way out of a different argument.
Re: This upsets me enough to make a thread about it
Webb sort of took the wind out of his sails already wouldn't you say?
Re: This upsets me enough to make a thread about it
Pretty sure a president was shot there too.
What is make you so upset?
Re: waitwaitwaitwait......they're talking about assault weapon bans after this
" but it doesn't give you the right to yell 'fire' in a crowded theater"
Yes it does. So long as there is a fire or more broadly, so long as whatever statement you made is truthful.
Holmes was an asshole though and was driven by politics when he made that now (in)famous statement. If everyone knew the history behind it they probably wouldn't be so quick to use it in defense of limitations of free speech.
Re: both
Well if you don't know anything about what you're talking about I can see how it could be difficult to hold a conversation with someone who has a clue.
Re: both
It's an existential claim. And for those there is a right and wrong. Or at least a 'more right' or 'less wrong' answer in terms of the evidence available.
I can't refute the idea that someone considers a cow their friend or their meal. It's a personal claim. If you say it is so then short of calling you a liar I must accept that it is so.
If you claim the existence of something. Like ...
Re: both
That's not an argument.
It's barely even a thought.
Re: both
Those are both personal claims.
Claiming a cow to be a deity isn't a personal claim.
Re: both
The idea that 'anything' (everything) is perception is nonsense. If there were no verifiable, testable, repeatable, solid facts, measures and concepts in this world it would essentially be chaos. Nothing could or would exist.
A cow being food or a deity may be perception in some, distant, abstract sense. Ie: To one group it is sacred to another group it's food. "It's all perception bro", amirite? But we know for certain that the cow can ...
Re: both
What a silly comment.
Re: Not true at all
He disregarded the idea that a cow could be a deity not that it is an impossibility for a deity to exist.
Re: Why does intelligence=no god?
Some concepts are difficult and/or boring.
I have an IQ of 347. What I said is therefore true.
Re: A military mis-hap
I dont think that's ever been done before. someone should make a movie out of it.
Re: I rate this troll
I invite you to bring a single example that counters it.
Re: I dunno
You can have depression and NPD you know.
I believe that you're a troubled person. Probably even struggle with depression from time to time. But I don't think it has anything to do with an elevated intelligence or being burdened with some kind of understanding when you were young. I think it's far more likely that you are both depressed and narcissistic and they play off each other.
It's how and why you develop silly, ...
Re: I dunno
I don't think you were actually told any of these things.
Had you even gone to a shrink (which I don't believe you did) you probably would have been diagnosed with NPD.
Re: IQ tests
I mean you're unremarkable.
And that's fine, most people are. Especially when we're talking about an online persona. It's just you've been here for over a year and you would think at some people, on some topic you would display some kind of insight or understanding that wasn't common place or couldn't be gleaned from some other, equally unremarkable source.
Re: 180
That was a movie staring Matt Damon....
Re: IQ tests
And spelling.
It's odd that as long as you've been here you've never given anyone a reason to think you're anything other than painfully average.
Re: IQ stuff
There is such thing as a properly conducted IQ test, the Wechsler tests for adults/children for example.
If we're going to be talking about IQ then we obviously aren't talking about anything relating to the modern scientific study of intelligence. We would be talking about requirements for talking an entrance exam for a group like Mensa.
Re: IQ tests
Probably wasn't an IQ test. Even though it would have given a score and been an indicator of higher than average IQ in some area or another.
There are a pretty wide variety of tests and the one you're most likely going to get at a shrink is just one to determine where you are developmentally. Is he acting up because he's bored and/or the curriculum doesn't focus on area's of strength for the child... etc.
Proper IQ tests ...
Re: I dunno
This is so weird that a group that comprises 2% of the population has so many members on a cell phone website.
Talk about a coincidence right?
