droid2 connectivity issues with wifi
Jan 12, 2011, 6:27 PM
in the Verizon forum

In wanting to better secure my home network, I took it off the WEP setting and placed it on WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES]. I read somewhere that once this is done, power off and on the router and the phone shouldn't have problems staying connected. NOT SO. I did everything that I read to do (on another site) but to no avail. My D2 can't stay connected even though I powered it off and on several times also, ...

i completely agree. when my upgrade was due in august, i seriously considered waiting it out to see what HP/Palm would release...glad i didn't hold my breath.

Solution

in the Motorola Droid 2 forum

hit menu button > settings > wireless & networks > wifi settings > hit the menu button > advanced > wifi sleep policy > uncheck 'when screen turns off' and choose 'never when plugged' or 'never'. the sleep when screen is off option is the default...meant to conserve the battery.

wifi connectivity issues on secure networks
Sep 16, 2010, 8:57 PM
in the Motorola Droid 2 forum

i cannot connect to any wifi network that iS secured beyond WEP. is this normal? at first i thought it was the phone, then i took it TO several other places and noticed that their networks were secured by WEP only and that i had no problem. at home i had WPA2-PSK set up and though my phone could log in, it kept disconnecting. so i changed my home network to WEP and have had no problems since. shouldn't ...

Re: wallpaper question
Sep 16, 2010, 8:48 PM
in the Motorola Droid 2 forum

thanks but i'm already aware of that. i want the picture to display in actual portrait dimensions instead of a magnified square. with the D2's resolution being 480x854, you'd think that'd be automatic.

wallpaper question
Sep 16, 2010, 6:19 PM
in the Motorola Droid 2 forum

how do i get the entire wallpaper to show instead of having to use that little box to crop to an area of the photo? the only answer i could find online was to download the mabilo app and transfer desired wallpapers into mabilo's 'favorites' folder. i tried that and it still cropped the picture. the resolution of the wallpaper i wanna use isn't even larger than 480x800. any solutions? thanks!

Re: Requires $10 data?!

in the Samsung Intensity II forum

i know, so much for bestbuy mobile! after i purchased the original intensity i called verizon and bestbuy to make sure she was giving correct info. she wasn't. what i don't understand is that we eventually had to go to another bb location in order to buy the phone and i complained about the data charge there and they did nothing to correct the misinformation! if we return the phone will it count toward the one-time exchange allowance?

Requires $10 data?!
Sep 6, 2010, 9:11 PM
in the Samsung Intensity II forum

What were they thinking?!! Went into BestBuy the other night to pick one of these up. Then they tell us that it now requires a data plan because it has a faster processor. What the heck? Who would pick this over the way better midrange phones like the EnV Touch, Samsung Reality, EnV3, Chocolate Touch, etc? Good thing they still had a couple Intensity I's in stock.

thanks for the reply. i eventually did a factory reset due to my phone not being able to stay connected to wifi. i haven't checked my music player since then but will soon. after 5 years, i decided to just let my napster-to-go subscription go since i now use pandora more often than not when away from home.

lol are you serious? sad. for all the people complaining about the D2, mine was a little choppy after the first charge but ever since then (for some unknown but welcome reason), it's worked perfectly. download ATK and you won't have unnecessary apps running in the background.

perhaps, but all people have to do is a longpress and a quick swipe into the rubbish...helps to get to know the phone first before complaining

my experience has been the complete opposite. no lag, blur is NOT intrusive (you can customize it to use as much or as little blur as you want), and all my apps and phone functions furn smooth. you may just have a bad phone.

anyone's D2 music player acting up?
Aug 27, 2010, 5:22 PM
in the Motorola Droid 2 forum

i'm having problems syncing and using the music player on mine. it's annoying because on my dumbphone (enV touch), i NEVER had a problem syncing with napster-to-go or wmp. if i sync a playlist from napster that contains protected and unprotected files, it says that i need a license to play the unprotected ones and doesn't transfer...severely slowing down the sync time. so i used wmp to transfer music and when i finally got them onto the phone, the ...

Re: How's the keyboard compared to original Droid?
Aug 27, 2010, 5:18 PM
in the Motorola Droid 2 forum

i held out on getting the original droid because of the d-pad, not because of the keys themselves as i didn't have a problem with them...it was the off-centered keys that i couldn't get used to. the d2 does away with that d-pad and raises the keys to a very slight dome-shape. i'm having no problem typing on it, and i came from an enV touch. in fact, i think i like typing on the d2 better than the ...

actually, this phone has gotten solid critical reviews from just about everywhere i've checked...including customers on verizon.com. little brother's not interested in the cosmos or intensity2...so we're hoping to give this a try.

I agree with the strengths that you've found in your D2. I just got mine last week, and noticed that the phone has improved significantly after my first charge...don't know why, but it has. I also don't have the lag that Philip found on his test unit.

I personally thought the Droid X was too big, so I went with the Droid 2. The Droid 2's screen size is perfect, IMO. It's also the thinnest (if not one of the thinnest) phones with a hard qwerty so its size shouldn't matter. It DOES feel heavy though, so if she carries her phone in her pocket it may take some getting used to. For me, my phone is always in my bag so it doesn't matter. It ...

Been trying to order this phone for 2 weeks now and it's always out of stock. Are they ever gonna replenish or what? Need to replace a phone on my family's line yesterday...and they're not interested in the Cosmos or Intensity II.

my thoughts exactly!!! i've never before commented on someone's writing style on a tech blog, but my gosh this guy cannot write worth saving his life. his overzealous use of adjectives was enough to make me stop reading after the first few sentences. forget the actual content and point he was trying to make, it was entirely undone by his writing style alone. and this is what passes for online journalism. sad.

Of course it isn't immediately cost effective. But it'll save his family $40/month, since he plans to go down to $10 data for he and his wife. I don't see how he's going to get out of their 2 current BB plans without early termination. Then again, I'm not a Verizon employee either.

Simply make sure the phone you're purchasing has a clean ESN, sellers generally provide this info on their ad...if not, ask. I think the certified pre-owned disclaimer is for buying through Verizon's used phone program only. As far as I know (and have done) you can switch out your phone as often as you like. Now regarding your 2 BB plans, not sure about how you're going to get out of that without an ETF. If I were you, ...

Re: Another phone?

in the Article: LG Fathom Is a Fast Windows Phone Inside and Out forum

i can see that happening. i still use an enV touch and haven't found a reason to upgrade to a smartphone yet because i haven't found a form factor on an android that beats my keyboard. that said, my next phone will most likely be a smartphone...BUT i wouldn't want it looking like a feature phone (my gripe with the ally). just my $0.02.

not sure what epik didn't like about the TP2. my dad has one and i had to learn it before teaching him how to use it. i really like it. the processor could be faster, but the hard keyboard is second to none in my book. HTC seems to be the best at making keyboards. the fathom's keyboard looks similar...but i'd give the edge to TP2 for HTC's sense UI.

thanks, that's what i thought. from what i've seen the build quality is fine, but if you've experienced the touch screen and battery life then i'll have to take your word on that. i decided on the moto because they just work when it comes to areas with no reception. the person who will use it lives in an area where NO carrier works (plus they hardly use their cell right now as it is), so they just need ...

I know it isn't offered by Verizon anymore, but I'm considering buying it off Ebay. I called Verizon customer service and the woman couldn't answer my question  Just to be clear, anything categorized as a "feature phone" does NOT require a data plan, correct? Thanks.
