HTC Lancaster for AT&T might sport the new Sense UI
Jun 26, 2009, 1:44 PM
in the Rumor Mill forum

We've all seen, or have just seen the new HTC Hero to be released in Europe sporting the new Sense UI for Android. Now, if the new HTC Lancaster for AT&T isn't labeled as a GOOGLE Phone, than it'll run the new Sense UI like the Hero does. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCodX vFrz5E Put it this way. All new HTC phones run TouchFlo for Windows Mobile, which is similar to the Sense UI. For now, we don't see the HTC Lancaster as a Google phone. ...

everyone where I work wish they never got the iPhone. They thought it was cool at first, but realize had limited it is and how many problems they have with the phone compared to their old Blackberrys.

My guess would be more than one, since they want to sell as many phones as they can. A start would probably be T-Mobile and AT&T. I think they are pushing the phone again to Q3 instead of Q2. They better get going or they will find themselves behind Samsung and other phone makers.

We are going first see the phone on January 26th 2009. I'm guessing T-Mobile and HTC don't want to be left behind with their G1 phone while Motorola and Samsung release their new Android phones during Q2 of 2009. http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-101 27736-94.html?tag=newsEditorsPicksArea.0

glad to hear the great news. If I had the DEV G1, than I would use it on AT&T towers since those work best for me. But I don't have $399 for a phone.

Thanks for the update. It's not like any mobile phone is running a multi-core processor like PCs. I just wanted to be reassured that I wouldn't regret buying this phone.

HTC FUZE Wired Review
Dec 4, 2008, 11:00 AM
in the Techs & Trends forum

Wired, one of my favorite Magazines reviewed the HTC FUZE and gave it a below par for their review. Since I don't have $399 to spend on an unlocked G1 from T-Mobile, this phone is my 2nd choice ($249 at LetsTalk). Their main discussion is the slowness of the phone blaming Microsoft's mobile OS. I'm wondering if anyone who owns this phone does find it a bit slower than the Tilt or other Windows Mobile phones? ...

I'll agree with that no doubt since a Nokia was my first phone, but as a company they are cutting jobs and have sat back watching Apple sell tons of their flashy phone(s). The iPhone reminds me of the PalmOS. One app runs at a time. Kudos to Nokia for making a giant leap in putting alot into a phone. We'll just have to see where it ends up and who will have it.

It looks like it might be on AT&T's list for being a GSM phone. But probably released in EU or Asia first. I'm thinking that they need to lower the $600 pricetag to $199 if they really want to sell the phone. It's Nokia's own OS and software, so they can claim their own starting price. Next would be the carrier's rebate for the contract rate.

They say it's a larger ZN4 with a pullout keyboard rather than the onscreen one that's for Verizon. They say it's also coming out Q2 2009 which really means Q3 2009. I'm wondering if it'll have the same or similar functions of the pull down menus and android market. Since Windows Mobile is on different carriers the same apps will work on the different phones. The other aspect is that the 2yr price of the phone will ...

I had mine 2 weeks ago, but had to return it since they I have poor signal where I work and live. They also wouldn't put me on the AT&T towers because T-Mobile doesn't have a contract in the state due to (in)sufficient coverage. I would buy the phone and signup with AT&T and use it on their towers, but I don't have $399 to spend on a phone.

Simple to use
Dec 1, 2008, 10:35 AM
in the Article: Video Tour: HTC Fuze forum

The first thought of the Touch interface is to make it more simpler than the Windows Mobile system. The "swipe" and button icons make it simpler for first time users. Also, the companies want people to jump into the PDA/smartphones rather than getting another free phone with limited functionality. I've used both phones and find that off-hand, the FUZE is easier to use. The Tilt does have larger keys, but fewer of them, and a bit larger ...

Come on. There will be 3 Android phones on the maket by Q2 2009. G1, ASUS brand, and Motorola Brand. all will be under $199. Every Touch Microsoft Mobile phones are over $199. (refurbs don't count). Letstalk does have promotions, but those always change. You are paying for an MS license to own the phone. The manufacturer buys them in bulk for $15 a piece, who knows what they're being resold at for the customer.

Re: G1 uses AT&T's 3G towers

They are roaming partners, BUT only in certain areas. If they feel that there is a sufficient signal (according to their coverage map) you won't roam. T-Mobile will save it's money and not rent any AT&T towers. This said. You cannot for the G1 to use AT&T towers. I'm in AT&T dominated counties with Verizon and spotty Sprint signals, so I'm returning my G1. :(

And lower their price. If they want people to buy their OS phones, than they need to lower the price of the initial selling price to $199. $299 won't get the phones out to everyone and will lose to Apple and the iPhone.

this feels like a round of ping pong. both carriers use the 2100MHz network meaning that both can use each other's 3G towers if "allowed". There are some places where the G1 and other T-Mobile 3G phones will use AT&T's 3G towers.

Re: G1 uses AT&T's 3G towers

AT&T both use the UMTS 2100MHZ band frequency which is the 3G frequency. AT&T: UMTS 850/1900/2100 MHz T-Mobile: UMTS 1700/2100 MHz

AT&T & T-Mobile use GSM. They both share a frequency and AT&T will all 3G usage in some areas. Verizon and Sprint use CDMA a longer range signal. They've also had 3G alot longer than AT&T and T-mobile which is why all Verizon towers have 3G on them.

The SideKick has a full browser. A touch screen is just a physical feature. Why would a user really need that when a BlackBerry doesn't have one (except for the new Storm for Verizon). The SideKick is larger and has more programs than just the texting and IMs that the QuickFire has.

I had the same choice. My result has come down to cost and I like the ShopSavvy program in Android. Scan any bar code and it'll list the most cheapest item and others in the local area. The FUZE has alot of features that comes with the phone, but is way out of my price range. If any of you want to buy it for me as an Xmas gift. Be my guest. :D

Odd, the G1 costs $179 in the retail store, $148 at Walmart out the door, and this "same" phone from the same manufacturer costs twice as much. /;| It should only cost $199 since a license for the mobile OS is $15. There is no accelerometer in the device due to the slide out keyboard and the HTC Diamond is only $250. Who knows, Walmart always has a weekly sale on cell phones. Last week's was the LG VU which ...

G1 uses AT&T's 3G towers
Nov 4, 2008, 10:53 PM

I got off the phone with T-Mobile's Tech support the other day. Since T-Mobile only has towers in about 30 Metropolitan areas, the tech told me that it would use the 3G data signal for all data transfers. You also have to be in an area where AT&T has 3G towers. Verizon started in 2001 with their 3G towers so you pretty much receive a 3G signal almost anywhere. Since I'm tired of waiting for Certain phones to come ...

Due to T-Com from Europe owning over 30% of T-Mobile's stock, I highly doubt they would let the merger happen since they make tons off the international calling from their carrier and T-Mobile.

Radio Shack would sell themselves overseas before dropping Sprint. Radio Shack is the reason Why sprint is still around. Sprint would beg not to be let go. Oh and RS is NOT picking up Verizon. Verizon has a rule. They will not be in the same store with 2 competitors, they only allow 1. The reason why Radio Shack Booted Verizon is that they wanted to bring in AT&T, Verizon said they had a rule, so RS booted them ...

Re: Usage tracking
Nov 4, 2008, 3:48 PM

The Data usage is not visually tracked on the device like minutes used while talking. No phone does that. You need a data plan because you'll use up your $$$/minutes if some type of data program is used on the phone. If you have Wifi running you could get away from it, but the device will automatically switch to a tower if the signal is stronger than the Wifi without telling you. To be safe, ...
