Re: The iPhone 5, for example, will require a $100 downpayment, with $20 monthly installments added
Well there's no contract to keep you on their service, but you would still be legally liable to finish paying for the phone regardless of where you took your service. They'll collect enough info on you before you get your phone that they could track you down if you tried to skip town with the phone.
But otherwise yes, you're paying in installments which is, in essence, T-Mobile loaning you that $480 with no interest.
Re: WOW
Technically we were still male even before the genitals developed, on account of said Y chromosome being present.
Re: The price is kinda steep
Really? I'd heard, at least for T-Mobile, that the GS4 would be priced at $99 down, $20/mo for 24 months, which would be a total of $579. Essentially identical pricing to the HTC One (whenever that is available) which isn't that bad a price at all for either.
Re: We are free to leave this month?
I feel bad for all you peeps outside of decent T-Mobile coverage. They have the ENTIRE DFW metroplex blanketed in sweet sweet HSPA+ 42, which has actually been faster on average than AT&T/Verizon's LTE in this area. I never drop calls, never loose signal (inside of large buildings aside) and always have peppy data speeds for considerably less per month than any other carrier.
I hope they build out more towers, because their service and value are both ...
Re: The 4? Really?
I don't know about trademarks, but last I heard Google applied for the patent on their Notification Shade a couple years ago. They are still waiting for final approval on that, though, so they may not be able to enforce the patent until the USPTO finalizes the application and grants them the patent.
Whether or not they sue anyone once they have the patent is another matter, though.
Re: Good Plan
Lazy ;) Actually, now that I think about it, T-Mobile didn't push the 7.8 update to their Lumia 710s. Can't believe I forgot about that, I was so pissed! I mean, manually flashing the update wasn't terribly hard, but.....still. Never did figure out WHY they refused to push the update. I can't imagine the handful of Lumias on their network would stress their servers at all :\
Re: The states get a worse processor than the international ?
Wait, what? I thought we got a different processor in the GS3 because the stock processor for the international version was incompatible with our LTE networks?
They did at least compensate us (to an extent) with double the RAM of the International.
Re: Meh
I can't speak for everyone, but I know I've dropped my old GS3 countless times without a case. Hard wood, concrete, highway pavement, each time from about 4-5' in the air (out of my shirt pocket). Damn thing didn't have a scuff or scratch anywhere on it. Makes me laugh when people give Samsung **** for their "crappy plastic phones". Damn things are nigh indestructible compared to most other (modern) phones I've seen, especially those ...
Re: Good Plan
How would carriers botch this? I thought Windows Phone updated similarly to iPhones, where Microsoft (or the OEMs) can push the update to all applicable devices at the same time, regardless of the network they're running on....?
Not that this affects me, my little Lumia 710 ain't getting any more updates.
Re: Now... go for T-Mobile
If you're in a major metroplex (which I assume most small businesses are) you're pretty well covered by T-Mobile. I know at least there isn't a place in the entire DFW area that I can't get their HSPA+ signal. YMMV, of course.
Re: Now....
Legit? That seems odd, considering I'm pretty sure horses are more expensive than cows. Also always thought horses were much more valuable alive than as meat.
Re: This is....
They apparently had time to dick around with laws like this a couple months ago when they first made it illegal to unlock your own phone. Though I suppose there's little profit to be made from doing what is right for the consumer....
Re: That's a pretty quick fix
I've heard Google Play apps run absolutely terrible on BB10 devices. Have you heard of any fixes to that issue, or was the issue perhaps blown out of proportion?
Re: Speed....
Well, the US variants of the Galaxy S III have 2GB of RAM, but no quad-core, so that may not fit your criteria.
Re: Be careful
Poor LG, absolutely no love....well, at least everyone seems to want their Nexus 4, even though LG apparently fails at mass production and distribution XD
Re: I am really angry about this.
Just wanted to let you know that I followed your instructions last night and was quite successful in updating my 710 to 7.8. Seems like a new homescreen shouldn't be so exciting, but I find I really do like the new version better.
If WP8 fixes the app availability issue, I very well may have to upgrade to a newer Lumia for my next phone. Unless Samsung does something amazing that triggers my tech lust, anyway XD
Thanks again ...
Re: I am really angry about this.
Thanks! I'll give that a try tonight or tomorrow (depending on other things). Honestly, the new homescreen is the thing I want most from the update. The "small" tile in 7.5 is fine for things with Live info, but takes up WAY too much space for simple things like a calculator, new OneNote, etc. Scrolling through a 2-wide vertical column 25-30 apps long is NO FUN. I imagine the new size and better use ...
Re: I am really angry about this.
Does that work for US T-Mobile 710s? The first comment in your link says it only works if the carrier has the update stored on their network somewhere for Zune to pull from. It doens't sound like T-Mobile will have the update anywhere to be found though :\
The only reliable way I've heard to get the upgrade is to manually flash the .cab files, which I'm a little more hesitant to do than I am with flashing ...
Re: hoping..
Out of curiosity, what OS are you talking about that takes all those steps?
Both with Android and WP(7.5 for me) if I'm in Pandora and get an email or message, I tap the notification and go directly to the message, then hold home/back to go to recent apps and click back over to Pandora.
Re: Finally!
RIM job jokes, RIP jokes.....this is a good move on their part, as most people refer to the company as 'Blackberry' already anyway. I think only the tech-literate actually know that BB is made by RIM.
Listen....
...to the sound of the world's smallest violin....!
Re: Nice!
That's awesome to hear! I can't say I had much hope for it, as I've found the older Nokia Drive app to be fairly terrible. I kind of hope us older Lumia users will get a Drive+ app, maybe shortly after we get the 7.8 update. A good navigation app is the one thing I've been truly missing since I made the switch to WP.
Re: Apple's diagnosable nuttery
-sigh- there's always at least one, isn't there? Here I gave you the benefit of the doubt and assumed you were being sarcastic a few posts ago. But you really are actually defending Apple on this, aren't you? smh....
Re: Apple's diagnosable nuttery
Agreed. I also assume by "resolve the issue" they mean "bend to Apple's will" as there isn't any middle ground here. Either Amazon keeps their "Appstore" and this goes to court, or Amazon changes the name of their store and Apple wins without a trial. There doesn't seem to be a lot of room for negotiation. Maybe Apple will request a percent cut of anything sold through the Amazon Appstore as recompense XD
What is Apple's obsession...
...with product bans, anyway? :\
I mean, I understand (to a degree) why they insist on filing patent and trademark lawsuits, and that is certainly their legal right to do, but......goddamn it seems like every time they file a claim they want the court to immediately and unilaterally ban anything and everything Apple lists in the suit, on Apple's word that the products are infringing before there is a trial to determine guilt or damages. And this is ...
Re: Got cores?
I know, right? I realize I may have come off a little feisty and a touch abrasive in my original reply, but goddamn @_@
Re: Got cores?
Way to make so many personal assumptions and judgement on someone you know absolutely nothing about ;p I ain't even 27, bro. But if by "going after [your] worm like a stupid fish" you mean "are bored at work and are calling you out for (obsessively even) saying stupid inflammatory things" then yeah, sure, I'm a stupid fish. Though "your worm" insinuates that you're being an ignorant inflammatory asshole on purpose to get a rise out ...
Re: Got cores?
Lol, you're hilarious, and I ain't even mad XD I still don't understand why YOU'RE so mad though. You said you wanted a discussion, I tried to have one with you, you got mad at me for "questioning" your opinion. I tried to clarify and you get further enraged and make all sorts of personal attacks, yet you never even touch on my original question. Don't be mad at me because you said a bunch ...
Re: Got cores?
Wow, you're really mad and apparently can't read. You absolutely are entitled to your opinion, and I never said anything to the contrary. I DID question why you would come to this website in particular and comment when you, by your own admission, don't like smartphones and think they are unnecessary expenses for ignorant people to become slaves to. Seems like a legitimate question and one you could have actually answered. Then we could have ...
Re: nice nice
For about 30 minutes :p Though I imagine being underwater would completely screw with the capacative screen
Re: Got cores?
So....why are you on a mobile device tech site again, since you seem to think smartphones are the devil? Hilarious that you count shades as a "life necessity", but a smartphone which can actually do useful things and save you time, money, and frustration is only for "ignorant" people that become "slaves" to their devices. And comparing using a smartphone to make your life easier to having failed kidneys and being plugged into a dialysis machines?? Lol, ...
Re: Got cores?
What is love, baby don't hurt me?
Re: what is wrong with this picture?
Well, in their defense the Apple-Samsung kerfuffle is probably exactly why they decided (after the fact) that such patent infringement should NOT include product bans. And to my knowledge no device since, what, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 has been banned. And Apple HAS tried to ban other devices since then, unsuccessfully.
Wait, what?
I gotta agree with Jarahawk, troll much?
YOU are forgetting the fact that, even paying full price for a high-end smart phone, you're still going to pay considerably LESS with a T-Mobile plan over 2 years than you will with AT&T or Verizon. And by "outskirt" you mean the boonies many miles outside of where the city ends, and that assuming you're not leaving the city on a major highway (in which case you're also covered). You're also ...
Re: Is iPhone 5 capable of HD Voice?
Yes, I do believe the iPhone 5 has HD Voice (or at least something similar). Keep in mind that the person on the other end of the line will need an HD Voice capable phone as well before the feature works.
Re: Curious
You should throw it on the ground.....
...for science! :d
Re: Curious
The Droid Charge most likely has 1st gen GG, if it has Gorilla Glass at all. I don't think phones started coming out with GG2 until around the GS3/iP5/L920 era. I'm actually kind of surprised they're coming out with gen 3 already.
Re: Looks fierce
A MilSpec phone? probably not ;p (not without a MilSpec blender, anyway XD )
Re: Falling Far Behind
Very true, but unlike Sprint at least AT&T gives you good service and use of the data you're paying for while they rape your wallet XD
Re: As goes Boost, goes Sprint...
That's why I hate those kinds of 'floating' throttles, where they throttle you whenever they damn well feel like not giving you service anymore. Top 5%? That's nice, except you have no idea where that threshold is or if you actually ARE in the top 5% when they throttle you. You just suddenly loose use of your data.
That said, I have no qualms with, say, T-Mobile's "You have 2GB (or 5 or whatever) of high speed ...
