I would stay away from the V710...especially if you are NOT going to use bluetooth. In my opinion (I'm sure some will disagree), most LG phones and Samsung phones are superior to any Motorola product and especially the V710. PS I own both a Samsung SCH-I600 and Motorola V710.

It is back. My local Verizon store (Charlotte, NC) received a new stock yesterday afternoon and was scanning them into their inventory.

About the only thing the data cable buys you at this point is transfering/synchronizing contact and calendar information.

I don't believe you can do this (yet) using mPT. You either have to use a transflash card to transfer the files or email them to your phone number at vzwpix.com once you create your vzwpix account.

PS You should be able to get software updates without any problem. I was able to update my i600 with the Windows Mobile 2003 update when Verizon released it.

I purchased my Samsung i600 on ebay and it's simple to activate this phone yourself. Just go to www.verizonwireless.com, log in to your account online (set this up if you haven't already), and towards the bottom right-hand corner of the page, click on the "Activate phone" link. Your phone should be up and running in a few minutes. I don't recall, but I don't believe I was charged an activation fee for doing it myself.

The rebate forms are at the Verizon stores for either a free Y cable or (I believe) a $20 rebate if you purchased your BT headset between 8/11 and some date in October (sorry...I already mailed in my rebate form). Of course you need a receipt and bar code from the product in addition to the rebate form. The Y cable simply lets you charge both your phone and your headset at the same time.

Crippled bluetooth is not a "minor problem." As others have pointed out, bluetooth is actually a communications standard. Trust me, if VZW had another phone that had fully functioning bluetooth, I would return this phone in a heartbeat!

This function is not currently available through bluetooth. You will have to use something like mobile PhoneTools with a USB cable until Motorla and Verizon release the patch.

I also am not pleased with this phone. The two major selling features were bluetooth and the 1.2 mega pixel camera. When these two items do not work as advertised, this turns into another ordinary phone. I also have a Samsung i600 which works flawlessly, but I really want bluetooth connectivity. I have tried to fall in love with the V710, but the only thing I really like is the bluetooth earpiece. I will ...

David, I have a fully registered version of mPT 2.01. I keep running Live Update, but the highest version I have is 2.01 (build 040113002968). I do not have an inf subdirectory under C:\Program Files\Mobile Phone Tools and the only file my XP SP-2 computer seems to install is the Motorola USB modem. How did you get your mPT to update to version 2.21f? Can you provide any guidance/suggestions for me? Once you got mPT to ...

Actually, the VoiceSignal software is the best VR software out there, IMO. On the Samsung i600, you can configure the software to either be faster or more accurate (of course there's a tradeoff with your decision) and you can configure it NOT to repeat the name or number you ask it to dial. From your post, it sounds like you only have first names in your phonebook. It should help quite a bit if you enter both First ...

USB Driver for V710
Aug 11, 2004, 8:30 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I have tried most of the suggestions in HoFo and also in this forum without any luck. Can someone please email me a USB driver that will work with the Motorola cable for this phone? I am not able to synchronize my address book using mPT 2.01. Thanks so much for your time!
