Huh? Since when? I can't find anything saying that T-Mobile has HSDPA 7.2, and that includes their own web site. They have it in Europe, but that's hardly relevant since you're comparing them to AT&T.

You're going to have to provide proof of that "double" claim. Sprint's and Verizon's footprints are not that much larger than AT&T's unless you're just looking at square miles covered (which is basically meaningless), and even then they're not double. AT&T's coverage is just as solid as any other carrier's.

I work with all the carriers, actually, but not for any of them. I don't really see the point in a USB modem, but that's because it's so easy for me to tether my phone and use its data plan instead. It's pretty rare that I'm not within range of some sort of wi-fi too, so the 5 gig data cap isn't really a problem for me either.

So are the new HTC devices. I'm looking forward to the Touch Pro2.

Nope, I don't work for a phone company. I'm just pointing out that false advertising is extremely difficult to prove, and that in this case AT&T is on very solid ground whether or not you agree with their claims.

I'm just guessing, but I suspect it will probably be about double what you're seeing now. I'm getting about 1.1 right now, so I suspect I'll be at or a little over 2.0 once then upgrade my area to 7.2.

Why? Their current 3.6 HSPA is already faster than Verizon's 3.1 EVDO Rev A, so it's not false advertising at all.

Apple's not even close. They only have one handset, and while that one handset sells very well it's still just one handset. Shortly after the iPhone's 1-year anniversary, some Apple rep was at a convention bragging about having sold 10 million units. It happened to be within earshot of a Nokia exec, who turned and said "10 million units? We've sold that many since last Friday." Despite all the hype, Apple is tiny in the cell phone market. ...

The problem is that you're both right. "Largest network" and "fastest network" do not have a common definition. Verizon and AT&T both define the terms in ways that make them apply to their own networks. Neither one of you can "win" this argument because you're both right... and you're also both wrong. It just depends on which carrier's definitions you choose to use.

That's correct, at least as far as the planning goes. Verizon and AT&T have both announced that their 4G networks will be LTE based. Technically, WiMAX and LTE are supposed to be compatible within the 4G specification, so 4G phones should theoretically be able to roam on any 4G network.

Verizon earned their reputation for a craptastic UI - but nice try at diverting attention away from that. One would hope that the iPhone would qualify as a smartphone, but since we're talking about Verizon there's no guarantee. Plus then there's the whole VCast and VZ Navigator issue.

Yeah, except that then Verizon would insist that Apple drop the iPhone's user interface in favor of Verizon's craptastic system.

I think his point is that everything *does* update automatically these days, so the patent cannot possibly be for anything important. For example, just today the following automatically updated on my computer: Adobe Reader, Flash Player, Windows, and Kaspersky Anti-Virus. Somehow I doubt that all of those companies are paying Apple royalties on their alleged patent.

Huh. I would have thought that they'd have advertised that in my bill at the very least. I've honestly never heard about this, and I've had an AT&T cell phone (through it's various incarnations) for ... oh probably close to 15 years. Though since I automatically toss out anything that comes in the bill besides the bill itself, that probably explains why I didn't know about it!

Interesting! I guess it just must not be available on AT&T. If it costs the sender 25 cents, though, it doesn't seem to me like it would be very appealing to spammers. Their whole operation is based on the fact that they can send the spam essentially for free. Since text messages have to go through a carrier gateway, it seems like SMS spam is something that really wouldn't be viable anyway.

The M-SPAM Act would prohibit marketers from sending SMS pitches to landlines registered to the Do-Not-Call list and all mobile phones. Someone want to explain how you send an SMS to a land line???

in the Article: T-Mobile Wins Judgment Against Pre-Paid Traffickers forum

Consumers are harmed and may be misled about the source and origin of their mobile phones, and they are sold phones without their manufacturer's warranties, accessories or user manuals. Because the phones may still carry T-Mobile's brand, consumers may believe they are purchasing handsets manufactured for T-Mobile and covered by original warranties. So basically T-Mobile won the judgement not because their phones were being purchased and resold, but because their brand was still being associated with the resold phones. It appears ...

in the Article: T-Mobile Wins Judgment Against Pre-Paid Traffickers forum

No, you're not. You are not required in any way to activate the phone, nor are you required in any way to sign up for service with T-Mobile. If you wanted to go out and buy up every single one of these phones that T-Mobile subsidizes, and then smash them all to little bits, there's absolutely nothing that T-Mobile could do about it. You are NOT entering into any sort of agreement with T-Mobile when you buy one of these ...

Mar 10, 2009, 3:07 PM
in the Article: T-Mobile Wins Judgment Against Pre-Paid Traffickers forum

No, it's a pre-paid phone, so you're not buying a service. You're buying a box with a phone and a SIM card in it. T-Mobile hopes that you'll sign up for their service, but there is NO LEGAL REQUIREMENT that you do so. And once you've purchased the phone, you can do whatever you want with it. Including unlock it and resell it to someone else. T-Mobile legally cannot restrict what you do with the phone ...

Re: OWNED!!!
Mar 10, 2009, 3:04 PM
in the Article: T-Mobile Wins Judgment Against Pre-Paid Traffickers forum

Nothing that comes in the box is legally binding, because you cannot read it until after you have made the purchase. And get it right... it's not a "verbal" agreement. And these people aren't activating the service, so no part of any alleged agreement that deals with activation of the service applies.

Re: OWNED!!!
Mar 10, 2009, 1:45 PM
in the Article: T-Mobile Wins Judgment Against Pre-Paid Traffickers forum

But see, that's the point. You are NOT "signing" a verbal agreement. You're not agreeing to activate the phone on a T-Mobile service plan. You're just buying a phone. I understand that T-Mobile subsidizes the phones and that they lose money whenever someone does this, but it is NOT illegal. T-Mobile (and other carriers) basically take a big risk when they subsidize pre-paid phones, and it surprises me that they actually won this lawsuit. That's why I'm ...

Umm... yeah. Of course it is. TP2 is coming out before 6.5 is available, so they'd have to delay the TP2 if they wanted to launch it with 6.5. As hunterd said, it will ship with 6.1 at launch but will have a free upgrade to 6.5 available once Microsoft eventually releases it. In 2010. If you want the bug-free version, that is.

On a more scientific question, reliable data indicates that CO2 levels are 27% higher than at any time in the last 650,000 years. That time span includes several warming and cooling cycles. And yet, somehow, you don't find it puzzling that the Global Warming Alarmist establishment seems to think that CO2 is ONLY NOW driving the warming cycle we're experiencing? The NOAA data you've linked is all valid, but incomplete. They're only looking at very recent trends, and those trends just happen to coincide with a proven, global cycle of temperature change that has been going on for at least 12,000 years. There is no debate that the earth is warming. The debate revolves around *why* the earth is warming. Some people want to link it to human activity, but there is no proof that it is linked. Nope, I'm getting it from peer-reviewed scientific journals and books written by scientists who are concerned about the political manipulation of science by the "global warming" industry. There is no proof that man's activities are having any impact on global warming. There's a lot of conjecture and speculation, but there's no proof. Furthermore, there is a lot of proof that the current warming trend that we are experiencing is part of a natural cycle of warming and cooling that the ...

Sadly, Al Gore is a politician. And as is typical for politicians, he got it all wrong. The inconvenient truth about Al Gore's movie is that he neglected to include all the facts. Particularly the ones that very clearly indicate that the earth goes through a climate cycle roughly every 1500 years. This climate cycle has been documented and proven repeatedly all over the world, but the "global warming" industry ignores it because it would be bad ...
