my chocolate shuts off when I close the flip...
...has anyone else had this problem? The first time I just figured the battery had just died, then it shut off several times while charging it. Right after the battery fully charged, it would still do that. I just pulled the battery and for some reason, it's not repeating the shut-off. Weird. This one will be going back if this happens any more, I've only had it a month.
Does this mean an end to Google SMS?
If so, I'm gonna be so upset! I use it all the time. What a load of crap. How can we make a complaint to Verizon?
Any rumors of a 3rd party GPS topo map application?
I've been thinking about getting a GPS for my outdoor adventures for a while. But they're pretty expensive, and the maps you have to buy for them are even more pricey. With IPhone 2 coming out with GPS, has anyone heard of a company that plans to build an app that utilizes the GPS chip with topographic maps for trail finding/marking and geocacheing? I could see the big screen and a reasonable price for functional GPS software be ...
Have the guts changed?
One of the things I'm most curious about... has the processor or cpu memory changed? Is anything about this phone's hardware better besides the new radios?
Is this a first?
I'm a Verizon customer, and I'm interested to see what people think of this service and how well it works. Do any other service providers offer something like this? I'm not aware, but I haven't looked, either. How much of a threat is this to Blackberry? It certainly is cheaper. I'd love to see Verizon provide a cheaper BB plan than $30 per month.
Re: Headline spelling?
Good one, Helix.
Not to nitpick, but I think the correct spelling is "reins." Personally, I think if Sprint had wanted to reign (read: rule) on data usage, they wouldn't have reined it in. :)
Wow, new specs
Pretty impressive... processor twice as fast, twice as much ram, a gig of memory, higher resolution screen. An upgrade done right.
Re: well that's a start...
I think Jobs said yesterday that they do not intend to allow java to run on the iphone. I think they think they already have a winner. Lots of people are buying them, so I'm guessing they don't see much of a need to open up everything. Especially anything beyond the whole SDK release.
A question about Google.
I heard that Google set up a small cell network around their headquarters to test android phones. Anyone know what kind of network that is? CDMA? GSM? Both? Something else? It makes me wonder what the CDMA vs. GSM phones will look like from the Android developers. The fact that Verizon will support it is great news, because it should give developers a more incentive to make great phones for those on ...
Screen looks small...

Re: Saying goodbye...
What about it was too much? Was the cost too much, or was it something else?
Re: Billable data -- WiFi, EVDO, data plans - CONFUSED??
Your phone doesn't have Vcast since it's a smartphone. However, it does access data with both wifi and Verizon's broadband signal. The broadband access is what Verizon wants you to pay a bunch for. It sounds like you have chosen the "pay as you go" plan. The only data you're planning on using is via wifi, correct? You as mentioned in Tdrussell's reply, you need to call Verizon and have them block all data to the phone. ...
Re: Voyager and Venus now on Testman
Thanks for the link! Is there any historical precedent for the phones going on as the same price they're put up on the "testman" site?
Re: HTML email?
Is Exchange Server 2007 an expensive software download, just an update, or dependent on your email account?
Re: iFLOP? Yawn! biggest POS
Hear, Hear. Well Said.
Here's another article on firefox: http://blogs.pcworld.com/techlog/ar chives/005656.html
Great video link! All those customization options are really nice. It seemed like the guy's phone was pretty snappy, and the apps worked well. This is starting to make me want this phone even more. On the note of a firefox browser, I did a quick search and found this article from a couple weeks ago: http://www.linuxinsider.com/rsstory/597 75.html It sounds like they're working on it, but not to expect a browser until next year.
Re: Data Plan required? -- EXPLAINED, hopefully
I've just done a bunch of reading up on this on howardforums. Apparently a lot of people are asking about this. Call us cheapskates, or just logical...$45 a month for unlimited data on top of what we're already paying is a lot. From what I gather, the best option is to select the pay-as-you-go service which is required, and the same price as your typical plan. For example, I have the 1400 min family plan. From what I understand, ...
A wifi question
Hey folks! I'm pretty interested in this phone since it has wifi. I was wondering how using wifi affects the phone. If you are on the internet, and someone calls in, what happens? Can you make calls and simultaneously use wifi? Thanks!
Re: Data Plan required?
I asked a VZW customer service person today if it is, and they told me no. I'm interested in the same thing you are, since I usually have access.
Re: EVDO OFF
Does turning off the EVDO seem to help battery life?
Transflash and Micro SD are the same thing, just different names for the same type of card. You can transfer pictures that you saved to your phone memory to the card and save them to your computer or another phone that accepts the same kind of card. Most higher-end Verizon phones use the transflash card. The best place I know of to buy a transflash card (and any memory of any kind, for that matter) is www.newegg.com. ...
Re: Where could I get one
Do you have Craigslist in your area? It's a good place to find people selling used phones. E815s are often one of the best deals to be had. They're still a great phone despite being out of production for a while. Try www.craigslist.org and find the city/area closest to you.
Re: Voice Command
Have you or anyone else had experience with both the 8700 and the Moto e815? I have the 815, and the voice dial works awesome with my 200+ name phonebook. I save the names first name/last name. I love the look and feel of the 8700, but it would be a bummer if it was a step backward with the voice commands. Does anyone know if it's similar/better/worse than the 815? Thanks!
Wouldn't the headline sound better using "one tenth the space" instead of "ten times less space"? The wording just seems cumbersome to me.
Verizon has been making some good decisions recently. This news is very encouraging to existing customers like me, as well as customers of other companies who will probably have to follow suit. Advances in customer service are always welcome. Some of my few issues with Verizon are being addressed. It seems like they're listening to what customers are saying. In addition, it's encouraging to see them taking some steps in the right direction with technology, like the new ...
Re: Motorola E817
Yep, probably so. Grrr. A big reason not to get it.
Re: RAZR v3m Release
Better signal, more internal memory, WAY better battery life, Motorola software (a plus in my opinion) all stack up to make it a better phone. Compare the phone scoop reviews. Oh yeah, the e815 was the #1 cdma phone in February's Consumer Reports review, from what I've heard.
Re: RAZR v3m Release
No info on the release. From what I've heard, the V3m is exactly the same as the V3c except for adding a transflash card underneath the battery, and adding headphone support for the miniusb port. They didn't make the first razr music friendly, so now with the vcast music out, they want to put out as many phones as possible that can download music. (and increase their revenue) Personally, I'd give the razr back and trade up for ...
Re: Message Use **POLL**
I'm glad I don't use so many. I use 50-100 per month...usually only a few pix, if any.
Re: Users Manual
What is mini-SDIO? Wow, I'd never even heard of SD wifi cards, much less mini sd wifi cards! Crazy! Any idea on how good the reception is with that small of a card? If the minisd wifi would work, that would make this all the better.
Re: FIRST PHONE WITH SHOCK ALERT - Moto TAZR
This thread is proof that PS nerds can be funny. I was laughing out loud. Keep it coming, s0lrac.
Re: Users Manual
GREAT post, scrodd! Most of my questions about the Q were answered by the draft of the owners manual, it was very helpful. I highly recommend perusing this to anyone interested in this phone. Now, if only we knew when it's coming, and how much it's going to cost!
I can't stand Verizon's death grip proprietary UI that doesn't allow you to customize anything. It's getting to where there's only a few phones they offer that have a native UI. I'm not overly expectant, but this is a glimmer of hope in the direction of better software in the future.
Re: VZW V710 and mp3s/ringtones
Are those really the limitations for a ringtone? Under 237 KB, 56 kbps and 24 seconds? That's tiny for any mp3! I haven't gotten my transflash yet, can the phone pull an mp3 from the transflash as a ringtone?
Re: How much did you pay for the V710?
I paid $219.99 today (with New Every Two instant $100), and will send in the $70 mail-in rebate to bring the price down to 149.99. No sales tax here in Oregon! :)
Re: anyone watch 'string theory?'
I watched it. I agree, totally weird. Did you figure out what it meant at the end to watch the conclusion? I think I remember something about it being "continued."
Re: v710 owners! does the phone 'click' open and shut like the v60?
Hmm, I hope it is durable. I'll be replacing my horrible v120c with this phone. The one good thing about my old phone is that it is indestructible besides the flimsy antenna that I snapped numerous times. I used to work construction, and it would fall out of my toolbelt occasionally. It would bounce down the roof and fall on rocks. The screen is so scratched you can hardly read it. How do Motorolas ...
A question about rebates and new every two
I have been reading posts for a while now, and finally registered so I can ask a question. I just checked out a v710 at the Radio Shack here in Beaverton, Oregon. It looks awesome, I'm definitely glad I have waited to get it. However, I'm going to wait until it comes out in the VZW stores because I have the New Every Two that I can cash in on. When I was at RS, the guy in the ...
