here it comes....
wait for it...
I can think of a couple of cases.
A broadcasting company probably wants it's name to show up in search results for one. I can see how two companies with the same name in vaguely related fields can be confused. I don't think it's frivolous at all, especially since BlackBerry was told they cannot use the name and went ahead and did it anyway.
Vaguely related flame post.
Imagine how a company, as innovative as this one, would do if the AT&T/T-Mobile merger had been allowed to go through. ESPECIALLY if the predictions of the government control advocates are correct and AT&T's prices went through the roof following the merger. People would be scouring the country for alternatives, leaving the big bad "monopolies," "duopolies," or whatever you want to call them behind and looking for companies just like this! But the status quo remains. Nothing changes because "change ...
Re: Funny about that quote
You literally just made all of that up.
Re: Funny about that quote
John has a fair point though, there is absolutely nothing "innovative" about blatently copying features.
"this is not fair"
They should block the purchase! Doing ANYTHING that would give you a competitive edge on the competition should be ILLEGAL!
Re: genius. pure genius.
The point is... They don't need to. Government helps fund the rural build-out and Verizon "selflessly" lets them use the spectrum. VZW trades the rights to the spectrum for it's use and makes out like a bandit. It's the most brilliant use of government manipulation I've seen in a while.
I kind of miss bigkippa now
I wonder what he'll come up with next?
genius. pure genius.
Verizon Wireless is convincing the little guys to build out an LTE network for them by letting them "use" the 700 MHZ spectrum. This makes Verizon look like hero's while generating an insanely huge profit. nice.
Why did the government sell it to lightquared?
If it was going to turn around and refuse them permission to use it? It's also pretty cool that the government charges GPS manugacturers NOTHING to use the signal. Something smells.
I would love to own a Vurtu
Just for the hell of it.
I'm dying to know why Sprint is so opposed to this.
I just can't figure it out. If an AT&T and T-Mobile merger is bad for the customers and will raise prices please explain how this will not BENEFIT Sprint?
Quality controll at it's finest.
I'm surprised they are unloading Gingerbread on this phone so fast! It's the newest and latest version of Android right? I'm so glad Google made that deal with the manufactures and carriers to keep all Android devices current, otherwise this phone might be stuck on an older version of android than what it is capable of. oh, wait...
"I happen to be a well paid executive"
Let me guess... You're the executive of a private record label? :P
I've a job!
I've a job too, and I's pay my phone bill myselfes.
Tin Cup comparison....
This "Re-Boost" thing sounds like a fast food place giving people who can't afford a hamburger a tin cup so they can stand outside and beg for the money to buy one. Priceless
So if your not poor, your spoon fed?
Boost is all you can afford huh? Because, as a "poor person" you can't live without the crap internet boost provides or unlimited texting for... what? And you ABSOLUTELY have to have a unlimited minutes because....??? who is trashing you? Don't ask me to pay your phone bill.
I just finally got rid of all of the game requests...
This feature should help me figure out who to delete from my friends list. :D
What? have we gone mad? Regulate this!
This is an unfair market advantage for Verizon and Leap, they are essentially causing hardships for competing Corporations who cannot offer the same deal. The FCC needs to have, in writing, how many jobs this particular measure is going to create before they allow Verizon and Leap to make a deal like this.
NO!!!! This is illegal and anti-competitive!
This is an unfair market advantage for Sprint and Dish netword, they are essentially causing hardships for competing companies who cannot offer the same deal. The FCC needs to have, in writing, how many jobs this particular measure is going to create before they allow Sprint and Dish to make a deal like this.
The government needs to stop this!
This is an unfair market advantage for LG and they are essentially causing hardships for competing manufacturers who cannot offer the same deal. The FCC needs to have, in writing, how many jobs this particular measure is going to create before they allow LG and Box to make a deal like this.
i get it!!!!
The quinex reference is perfect, kind of wish I'd thought of it myself. However, I'm not sure if I understand why Apple was mentioned in the following post. I mean, I understand the reference to baked goods, but the article mentions nothing of Apple, iOS or iPhones. An easier, and arguably more contextual joke would have read more like this: "And blackberry has informed bakeries all over the world to stop calling their confections "blackberry Pies"..." You see, the way I ...
are you kidding me?
This is lawsuit-worthy.
no kidding. can you imagine being able to use your phone for a week without charging it????
just in time!
for people to STILL need to switch phones to maintain a current OS. well done.
Re: What a society we live in
ericsson= japanese company.
i thought we didnt have to worry about android fragmentation anymore?
I wonder if this will turn the tables....
It's pretty obvious that Android uses patented technology from other companies making it a little less than "open-source". I wonder if the cost of these licensing agreements will eventually be more than the cost of simply purchasing the Windows phone 7 OS?
AT&T Ditches T-Mobile, Opts to purchase Verizon instead.
In a startling move today AT&T decided to purchase Verizon. In unrelated news, Apple has Decided to launch a missile attack on RIM after purchasing Android.
What right does the government have to make any decision regarding ANY merger of ANY private business? Next they will be telling you that you cannot marry whomever you wish... oh wait.
Obtaining patents is seen as a way to avoid lawsuits.
Not ripping off your competitors is also a really good way to avoid lawsuits.
"...the DOJ has put consumers' interests first." I'm pretty sure they mean "the DOJ has put OUR interests first" there. I think that listening to these companies go on and on petitioning the government to stop their competition for them is getting more than irritating. ...including consumer choice and innovation." Now, how does that make sense? What is innovation if it is not creating something new. competing differently or figuring out a way to overcome obstacles? The definition of innovation: ...
iPad 2 is a great device, it's just too locked down. LOL! Locked down to what? Your job cares about changing the color of the tablets icons or putting a "really really sick skin" on their professional devices? What does your "job" want to do with tablets anyway? Spreadsheets? Word processing? power-point? Do they want security? remote wipe? Do they want a tablet with outstanding battery life? One that doesn't crash or a tablet that actually has a useful suite ...
NYC, here I come! Now I won't have to pay an arm and a leg for the cab!
What happens to Android when it gets too expensive?
Google doesn't have to pay royalties because they hand the OS over for free. They make nothing hence they pay nothing. Manufacturers on the other hand, they make a decent amount of money on the phones they sell. Money earned = money paid in royalties. It's almost like a bait and switch; "hey guys, wanna use this free OS? it's awesome!" "sure! we'll take ten million copies!" "oh yeah, now you have to pay other companies for their IP we used ...
100% of what you just said is innacurate.
The CEO of DT said if AT&T does not buy us we will shut down tmo He didn't. they don't make any money and have been operating at a loss forever They haven't. The US will lose a ton of jobs How so? because they will go under anyway who??? Sprints having a fit because they didn't have the money to buy it in the first place. Really? Source??? Sprints credit rating is junk and nobody will loan money Really? Source??? I hate to tell everyone... That doesn't ...
Re: I'm calling bullcr*p!
Apple keeps the data they collect They don't "keep" your data at all. than they said they would? They never gave any indication of how long they would keep your data to begin with. All the information is stored locally on your phone and on your own personal computer. There is no reason to panic! Don't let anyone snoop around on the two devices!!
Re: IT IS AT&T's PEROGATIVE
So, you are saying that, even with NO merger, AT&T still has an edge on the competition in that area? Whats going to change after the merger then? Maybe the competitors will focus on being... competitive???
