Migrating PrePaid to PostPaid

Anyone have any experience with purchasing an A870 prepaid phone (say at Wal-Mart or similar) then activating it on a post paid (contract) account? I've heard mixed stories of mixed success. Any experts out there?

The business unit from ATT is still selling them. If your company has discounts through Cingular you can get them for under $200.

So I was reading the ATTWS website about their UTMS and they state: "If you use your phone to connect to another device or computer via cable, Bluetooth or infrared, you will be charged $0.001 per KB or approximately $1/MB for data sent to or from your phone. You also will be charged $0.001 per KB if you remove the SIM card from your phone and use it to get wireless data service from another device or computer." How do they ...

I've heard this will be a Cingular exclusive at first, but you could buy it through an importer (paying full price) and get a t-mo sim, if you can't wait.

Hate to bust your bubble but no matter how much you tweak the software, if the hardware is sub-par you're not going to improve things. Look at pictures taken with other recent Moto phones and you can see it's just the low quality CMOS sensors that Moto has chosen to use. That doesn't look big at all, considering you're getting a full on digital camera, cam- corder and cell phone. Remember when we used to carry around the 5lb models? How quickly we forget. So uh, were can I get one? :)

Where exactly did you see this "official" press release? Also US Cellular supports BREW as well so they are probably going to adopt the same stance Verizon has and prevent as much BREW work around as possible.

Phone Finder Options
Sep 28, 2004, 1:39 PM
in the phonescoop.com forum

Hey Rich, How about adding some options to search for mega-pixel camera phones, or search by camera sensor (for those that distinguish between CCD and CMOS)? What about being able to search for phones with specific Bluetooth profiles, for those phones that don't offer full Bluetooth functionality? Just some thoughts. Love the site! (It's hard to improve when you're the best.) Thanks!

Re: WHY IS THIS PHONE GETTIN SUCH BAD REVIEWS
Sep 13, 2004, 9:19 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

Personally I'd wait and see which carrier offers the best package first. If Verizon fixes the Bluetooth then go with Verizon. If another carrier offers a similar phone with all the features working (aka: 7610, s700i, mpx220) then go with them. Unless you spend most of your time in the sticks then you'll get good coverage no matter what carrier you go with. It's your money, get what you want!

You know what, this is reason everyone is complaining about this phone. Everyone keeps exchanging their phones at least 3 times over and the stores just resell them saying they're "new". It's not the phone is crappy it's just that there are a lot of broken phones being shuffled around.

That's kinda funny. CMOS sensors usually go through a burn in period, but this is normally done in assembly. Usually about 48 hours. Maybe you can keep getting a new phone ever few days and that'll keep your picture resolutions nice and crisp!

This is the Verizon EPP (Employee Purchase Program) website for companies that Verizon offers discounts too. If your company has an EPP agreement you get similar discounts on service and equipment.

Re: Where are our MPT 3.0 beta testers?
Aug 5, 2004, 2:02 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

Nope, I don't buy it. Bluetooth is a standardized way of communicating wirelessly. It's built in layers. The DUN, Headset, and Handsfree profiles are all dependent on the Serial Port Profile. If the Phone Tools was coded correctly you should be able to transfer/synch between a computer and the V710(without updated firmware). Ten bucks says, Moto just updates Phone Tools and not the V710 thereby making people buy yet another Moto product. So can anyone with a newer version ...

Re: Verizon Corporate Discount? (clarification/more info)
Aug 3, 2004, 3:08 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I think it really depends on the agreement between the corporation and VZW. Ours ranges drastically from phone to phone. Anywhere from 0% up to 110%. The VX7000 for example is zero, so I don't imagine the v710 will be a great deal at first.

Are you using the Motorola Bluetooth adapter with your PC? svenllr said: OK, Bluetooth is Bluetooth (per the spec), so why doesn't my BT USB Kensington work for this? All I get is "Initializing..." True you can't change the Bluetooth protocols but how Moto uses them is a whole different story. Plus they've only included three protocols on the phone so the other end of the connection (i.e. computer, PDA) will have to do all the real work. Not sure why the Kensington wouldn't at least connect though? Maybe that's ...
