I never insulted the original poster though I am most certainly on a mission to get myself banned.
Request for Ban of Account
Rich and whomever else runs this site. I have requested in a few places that my account be banned and if possible that you delete all my posts. I am upset that a reply to a post was deleted but more so that you guys sent me an email accusing me of violating the terms of service which IS an outright lie. I made no personal attack against an individual, but rather laughed at the idea ...
Re: Cell Phone Dilemma
1. Data is mandatory on all smartphones manufactured for Verizon since November 2008 I believe and prior to that All Verizon Blackberries required data plans.
2. Your device will NOT sync with email WITHOUT a data plan unless it is a device which does not require a data plan. The last such devices will be a Palm Centro or HTC XV-6800 or any non-Blackberry devices launched before Verizon began mandating that all smartphones have an actual data plan ...
"Can I tell them I want them to give me a cheaper deal on monthly service..."
...instead of the "new every two" perk?"
Yes. You can tell them and they will do nothing. Wireless carriers are not in the business of saving you money. I worked for Verizon Wireless for seven years and nothing about the company ever suggested that they are in the business of doing anything but making a profit.
To Rich Brome and anyone else on Phone Scoop: Please delete all my comments and also ban me from ...
Re: What happens?
Guess what? Then they cannot have a kid accept something which changes contract terms. That would be like letting that kid sign a legally binding contract.
Re: Cell Phone Dilemma
It doesn't matter that Sprint uses CDMA. Verizon will not activate an ESN which is not loaded in its switch. It's a Verizon phone or nothing. That's the beauty of CDMA.
All Touchscreen Blackberry?
The keypad is what I miss most. I still have my 8330. Maybe I will buy a replacement battery for it and switch from the Q Black. I could see myself with a Blackberry Torch type device, but if I could have my choice I think I would still go for an Iphone.
Re: "Verizon LTE: no roaming, even if you want to"
"Verizon acquired most of the FCC's 700 MHz C Block spectrum (which lies in band class 13), and many of AT&T's 700 MHz licenses sit in the lower C and B Blocks (which lie in band class 17). A number of smaller operators acquired 700 MHz spectrum licenses in the Lower A, B and C Blocks, which lie in band class 12."

It's not as simple as consumers think it is. Here is the deal...the carrier has to ...
Because...
...each carrier purchased different blocks.

This is GREAT NEWS!!!
Re: Change Phones keep Data?
I don't call CS for anything I can do via My Verizon. I just don't trust them. Bottom line: If you have an Unlimited Data plan NOW DO NOT switch it to a dumb phone. You will NOT get your data plan back.
Re: Change Phones keep Data?
A smartphone data plan stayed on a dumb phone?
So we're taking 2020...
Verizon is not going to approve an All LTE device with no support for CDMA1x or Rev. A as long as they are still paying for those networks. So since they have committed to keep CDMA running until 2020 there is no rush.
Sure...
...because people won't expect free or nearly free LTE handsets.

"10GB for $60"
Unlimited for $29.99 is better. And those of us who are grandfathered (for the most part) could care less. We are like the NBA players who agreed to a rookie maximum salary and nineteen year old age limit for American players... Doesn't affect us... Right? Sure, sure...
"Cellular phone companies have given companies, in general, a bad name"
BP, ExxonMobile, Wells Fargo and General Motors agree with you.
Then...
...we're all doomed. AT&T has already provided hookers and bribes to all the politicians on BOTH sides to ensure their cooperation on this thing. Besides, even if the merger were denied, Verizon and AT&T generally ignore what Sprint and T-Mobile do unless they see an opportunity to put more money in their own coffers (as when Sprint raised the PPU rate for text messaging).
Why?
"...come out with better, faster smartphones that can do way more in terms of audio & video streaming & data intensive apps then cap that data at such low amounts..."
Because people will pay for it. Data use is right up there with cigarettes, alcohol, drugs and sex. No matter how expensive it becomes people will pay for it.
Re: Caps, tiers, throttling and overages
I remember when Verizon had $0 activation fees on two year contracts. We blasted the hell out of Cingular for charging $36 Act fees. Next thing you know, corporate dropped the bomb...$35 Act fees. Why? Because we were losing revenues of $35 per customer. Better believe the bean counters at Sprint are tallying every customer who is killing the unlimited exceeding say 2GB per month or 5GB and calculating ALL the revenues they are losing.
Re: Caps, tiers, throttling and overages
Pointing out that a company is greedy in America is like saying the Sun is yellow.
Re: Shotgun approach
RIM never worried about mass market appeal back in the day because they had the Enterprise market sewn up.
Well...
...which is it? I got my lady an iphone and she loves it. But...she still wants a new one when it is released. She's not clamoring for a new iphone.
If there are people who claim to love the phone but want something different or they will cross over to another manufacturer...I would not want to have their love.
So...
Are phone sales down?
Re: Shotgun approach
I don't think Apple is feeling any pressure. Are iphone sales down?
"Does this open up the door to shared data?"
You are an eternal optimist. Why would Verizon give you a chance to save money when you are perfectly content to pay for two data plans now?
Re: Advanced Device Initiative
Uh-huh. Who is going to manufacture a phone and then wait twenty months for Verizon to fart around and allow all the features on the phone to become obsolete awaiting on Verizon approval?
"They offered above market price to keep Tmobile...
...of the hands of a company that could have created a much more powerful level of competition."
Verizon AND AT&T have continue to outbid participants at spectrum auctions to lock down the industry. This is nothing new.
No. I suppose not.
There are worse ideas. I mean, if AT&T and Verizon sought a merger THAT would be a worse idea. This one IS pretty high om the totem pole however.
Re: " A handful of states have already voiced approval of the deal."
...and Texas. Atlanta was BellSouth's stomping grounds and Dallas SBC's. So yeah, that's two red states right there.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Not the nine states mentioned in the article, but rather the states which have already voiced their approval of the merger.
Advanced Device Initiative
Verizon gave us a little song and dance and we swallowed it hook, line and sinker. It was supposed to be a way for manufacturers to roll their devices out without carrier interference. Verizon IS the same company which settled a lawsuit over Blue-tooth profiles on the V710 rather than open the phone up. It is laughable now but at the time a big deal. When they teamed up with Google for Android, many believed ...
" A handful of states have already voiced approval of the deal."
They received their bribes early.
What happens?
When the user of that particular handset is a twelve year old kid who is not legally able to agree to such terms? There is a such thing as taking your Verizon *Bleep* sucking to new lows. Seriously. Get that thing out of your throat so that you can breath again and then maybe you will think clearly, too.
R" Unlimited data offerings are a different situation since those can be prone to abuses"
What's wrong with giving it to them rough every now and then? They've been *Bleeping* their customers for years.
Wow!
"with a quantified amount it shouldn't matter what device consumes that data because if I use a PC which is capable of consuming the data more quickly that just means I'm going to finish the 2 GB more quickly."
You really kicked *Bleep*!
Re: Can I send back a different phone using the Replacement Verizon Wireless
Well, yeah. I am confident that I could do it.
...but...
I LOVE the way Verizon has implemented tiered data. When we debated this you argued so convincingly the merits of tiered data and how fair it would be. While I failed to convince anyone that Verizon would tie their wrists to their ankles and have its (VZW) way with them.
Re: It's easier to have two duopoly's...
Hell I would do it if I were AT&T or Verizon. Sure I detest THEM for doing it because it benefits THEM and not ME. But if the shoe were on the other foot I am certain that Azeron Wireless would practice the same anti-competitive practices that Evil Red and the Death Star do and of course pad the pockets and feed the appetites of the politicians necessary to get it done.
Re: Can I send back a different phone using the Replacement Verizon Wireless
Yeah, good point.
So make sure you rub the ESN off oh and when you call tech tell them that you are getting a white screen and the phone never powers fully on. It may be necessary to actually short the phone on purpose to re-create this effect. That will save you countless hours of Tier one trouble shooting with CSRs at non-corporate call centers.
