Phone Dilemma

OK...I've had it with my Palm Treo650. After 1.5 years it is giving me fits (white screen of death, slow boots, dropped calls, etc.) and I don't need to be tied to my work e-mail as much anymore. So with that I'm able to do an upgrade according to my on-line account and just have a few questions on the current Motorola Razr's... 1. Are the current V3 (like one that I could buy from e-bay) decent? ...

They have no choice except to do that except that they need to give the subscriber an added bonus of some find to switch from iDEN to Qchat, especially the large volume users. Companies don't want have to take on the extended time, plop down a whole bunch of cash to change phones, and lock themselves into a product that may not work for them. It's buyer beware with Sprint/NEXTEL.

That's why I dumped the stock withing weeks of their merger. I knew that in the long run they would have problems supporting 2 separate incompatible technologies in 2 different frequency bands and only recently is the dual protocol phone "close to coming out" and who knows how that will work. In my industry most of the technology savvy end users, including Motorola field implementation engineers and technicians that I work with have dumped NEXTEL iDEN due to their ...

It is clear on all of the carriers coverage maps that they are based on "OUTDOOR ...

Re: Cingular isnt doing so well for Radio Shack's 1st quarter 2006

EMS and Public Safety use their own LMR systems and do not rely on any cellular carriers to handle their call traffic. Those who have tried to do that, usually on NEXTEL, fail miserably and go back to their private system especially in the hurricane belt.

Radio Shack...you have questions, we have blank stares.

The general public typically doesn't see Radio Shack as a large cellular 3rd party seller. They rather go to Best Buy (or some similar major electronics store) where the selection of phones and carriers is much bigger.

The Feds can listen to any technology (iDEN, CDMA, GSM, etc.) they want. The trick is that they listen to it off the switch with a wire-tapping court order. They don't waste any time trying to listen to it off the air.

in the next few days and putting 5 phones on the family plan. I can't wait if you really want to know. Anyway, I'm looking for those with actual experiences with the Cingular 2125 and how well it performs. I'm pretty familiar with the Window's mobile applications and just curious on how well the phone works in the field on the RF side of the house. Thanks in advance... Mark

Don't forget about the monitored home alarm systems that most of us have as well. Disconnecting the home phone line will make the unit worthless except for the audio alarm.

If you don't know of others that have NEXTEL who you can PTT it's not really worth going with NEXTEL iDEN. You should pole your friends and family to find out what they are using, if they are satisfied with their carrier, and make a decision that way. Using the free Mobile to Mobile that the other carriers offer, typicially at no charge, would be most cost effective for you and be more of a real time test than ...

Re: Call Quality on Nextel Network..???

As with all carriers, it depends on where you are. Sure iDEN (NEXTEL) sounds great, but in a lot of the metro areas NEXTEL's system is way over capacity and plagued with dropped calls and call re-tries. You will find better performance with a better phone than an i205. Taking the 15 day trial would be your best bet if your really looking to switch.

The Nextel & Sprint systems are still seperate and do not roam from one to the other. Sprint CDMA phones can roam to other carriers, like they always have. Nextel branded iDEN phones can only utilize the NEXTEL iDEN network and will not work on any other "cellular or PCS" carriers. As to plans and prices, what ever suits you is the right way to go.

Feb 12, 2006, 6:21 PM

I would call the iDEN based NEXTEL sub's a small number as compared to the CDMA & GSM numbers that Motorola manufacturers for. It is quite an undertaking to create a phone with a new chipset (iDEN & CDMA), build a prototype to provide to the FCC for type acceptance, line up manufacturers to build the sub-assemblies, and then finally create the assembly line to build a phone whose iDEN/CDMA roaming features may only last 3 years as ...

Re: is there nationwide dc?????
Feb 11, 2006, 9:57 PM

National DC should be able to be added to any plan for $10 a month. If you don't buy the monthly option it's 10 cents a minute and typicially charged to the unit that initiates the nationwide DC call.

Sprint/NEXTEL can work on it all they want, but until they get the buy in from Motorola it isn't going to happen. Like the article says, being there is such a small market share it isn't worth Moto's time to do the R&D and tool up for such a limited number of handsets.

Dual Mode iDEN /CDMA phone may not come out....

http://mrtmag.com/mag/radio_idens_murky_futur e/ Although Sprint says it will offer a combined iDEN/CDMA handset, Motorola says it has not made a final commitment to building them. Concerns over market size for such a device could prevent Motorola from taking the plunge. Compounding matters for Sprint is that there currently aren't many options beyond Motorola, as no other handset vendor thus far has tried to build an iDEN handset.

Accordint to the latest Mobile Radio Technology magazine, Moto. may not be producing the dual mode iDEN/CDMA phone. It mentioned a limited market share (only Sprint/NEXTEL0 and development times that didn't make it worth their while.

In March I will be cancelling my NEXTEL service and transferring me, the wife, folks, and in-laws for a total of 5 phones on one Cingiular family plan at the same time. My question is on the pricing of the phones, what is the limit on the number of phones that can be purchased at the discounted rate and how many have to be purchased at the full price? I can't find anything in the documentation that the store ...

Their continued lack of capacity in South Florida which causes me to drop calls to no end and their in-ability to remain operational after minimal CAT 1 and 2 hurricanes, while other carriers remained operational, is causing me to switch. Actually its just the opposite. This was a shortened article that doesn't have all the details. Sprint has a standard form that they require from any LE agency to use if they don't have a subpoena. All Sprint is looking for is an agency letterhead via fax requesting the service. This agency thought they were above Sprint's requirements when actually Sprint is doing the right thing by requiring it for privacy concerns. It was the agency ...

Re: Boost Phones On Nextel?

Boost has always been on the NEXTEL iDEN network. The Sprint Rep. doesn't have a clue on that item. Now as far as porting your current Sprint # to Boost, I doubt that would be possible.
