Low-end, not mid-range
Aug 31, 2012, 4:43 PM
in the Article: Review: Kyocera Rise for Sprint forum

I think the reviewer is incorrect calling the Rise a mid-range phone. It's lower end and priced as much. It sells for $99 at Virgin Mobile. Secondly, I don't think the camera is that good - accurate with color or focus, as megapixels only relate to print size - on ANY low-end phone. If I'm wrong about that, maybe someone can provide an example of a cheap unsubsidized phone (

Well, I use my credit csrd. If you're not old enough to have one yet, then pay cash for a top-up card and use it to top-up with. There are instructions on how to do so at Virgin Mobile USA'a web site.

I'm sorry Flare isn't working out for you. Maybe WildCard is more to your speed since you use the text function so much? Me, I never text. I use Flare to mske cslls with, by voice, and it works fine for me as far as that goes. It's good that Virgin Mobile has lots of models that meets the different needs of its clientele!

New phone - the Flare
Mar 15, 2008, 10:00 PM
in the Virgin Mobile forum

Saw a new phone for Virgin Mobile today at Best Buy called the Flare. It's not listed in the info & phones section yet, and I didn't even know about it until today. It's made by LG and is a flip phone with bluetooth with a screen on the cover. All for the unbelievable price of $30 (probably less from Wal-Mart). I love that new phones are being offered with nicer amenities, but yet they don't forget that they're PHONES, ...

Agreed. There are some who complain that it's "boring", and maybe that's a generational difference, but I prefer a phone that is a phone, makes and receives crystal-clear calls, and is not necessarily a PDA. I don't think I'm the only one, either. I wouldn't buy this one, though, because I don't like flip phones. My V5 Slider still works just fine for now, but it would be nice to go back to a bar-style phone.

Boring is good. It's a PHONE, for pete's sake. As long as it makes and takes calls, isn't that all that matters?! Or am I missing something here?

As a website owner myself, I can't imagine not being able to voice my concerns and problems in my own forum. I'm sorry for the poor man's experience both through Cingular and through the guest responses on this forum. No class! I don't even belong to a contract carrier, but I'm going to avoid AT&T like the plague, iphone or no iphone. I've learned a lot about many of the carriers through threads like this; one can also learn now ...

I'm the one they market to, Rich. I'm 46 years old, with excellent credit, and want a simple little phone that doesn't drop my calls, burn my hand, has enough battery power to get through the occasional award show, and is big enough to hold on my shoulder as I talk. Oh, and I like it to be able to actually make calls, too. Since I've been with Virgin Mobile, I've had good service out of both my Kyocera ...

Actually, nevermind! A trip to the Korean company's website answers one question, anyway: "...just 31% of Pantech's sales were made under its own brands. The company sold 4.5 million phones to Motorola Inc. and 6.7 million to North American distributor Audiovox Corp." UTStarcom, which makes (?) the Snapper, is less forthright with their company information. However, when selecting the 8615 the name Audiovox comes up. Maybe Audiovox is not so much a brand as a distributor of phones other companies make, as ...

Chances for Motorola Knockoff to Appear
Feb 26, 2006, 4:46 PM
in the Virgin Mobile forum

I'm just wondering since we paygoists are kind of left out of the loop as far as our phone choices go (not that there's anything wrong with Kyocera and Audiovox), what are the chances that one of these companies will provide for us a high-end phone if we're willing to pay for one. I know they have to keep things cheap since the main market is teenagers and because the phones don't carry the usual subsidy (?) but it would ...

Wow, after a year the same people are arguing about the same things! Well, personally, I'm not leaving VirginMoble anytime soon, and especially not for TMobile. VM's Minute2Minute plan has served me and my purposes well. Maybe if I get more friends who won't call me on my house phone, I'll go to their Day2Day or Month2Month plan. But for now, my K7Rave works just fine for me, as does 10 cents/minute. To each their own. Some people prefer adjustable rate ...

Here's my view: when I was with AT&T four years ago (regular line long distance only, not wireless) I was paying 24 cents a minute. Now, I don't use the K7 much, I bought it for traveling purposes, because I've tried the payphone thing at the airport, and it's just too inconvenient carrying a bunch of change you have to empty out at the security checkpoints. When I was at Logan Airport last year the payphone was $1.00 for a ...

Verizon in Oklahoma?
Oct 19, 2004, 7:51 AM
in the Verizon forum

I'm confused about this. If I go to Verizon's website and put in my zip code, they say they don't have coverage in my area. Yet if I go to my local Best Buy, they have Verizon phones and service selling as "America's Choice". Can you or can you not get Verizon service in Oklahoma, or is America's Choice some sort of licensing deal with another carrier?

Probably due to the coverage in Oklahoma. They've been in Eastern Oklahoma for a while, and just recently set up shop in Oklahoma City to take advantage of the phasing out of ATT Wireless.

Not only that, there are people, like myself for instance, who have stellar credit, but don't want to sign on to two years with a husband, never mind a wireless company. All I want is to be able to make a call and not necessarily have to be home to do it, and I also want to be able to use it I get a flat tire in rural Oklahoma, for instance.

That could take years...there's quite a few of them left. Oh well, it's not as if a color screen would make the reception better or the battery last longer, would it? Maybe it's just as well to stick with what works.

This probably doesn't answer the question, but my co-worker likes her T-mobile EasySpeak (now called T-Mobile to Go) because they give her extra time when she refills. I'd use it myself if I could get mobile-to-mobile with it.

Salvageable StarTac?
Sep 14, 2004, 11:32 PM

I was given a StarTac 3000 that had never been used or activated. Is there any carrier that I can activate it with? Granted, I know it's a dinosaur, and it has a standby time of about two hours (if that), but I hate throwing away electronic equipment, and it would be pointless to donate it if they won't be able to activate it either. Any ideas?
