VX-6100, Openwave, and graphics?
Mar 24, 2006, 7:17 AM
in the LG VX-6100 forum

I set up a wap proxy at home and my VX-6100 with its Openwave browser uses it just fine, except for graphics. Whether I set the browser to download images or not, it doesn't seem to care - it just will not download images. Is there anything I can do about this? I'm a big fan of weather radar, and if I can have options other than GIN, I'd like to visit weather sites of my own choosing and see the images I want. Looking ...

Is GIN supported?

I'm looking for a VZW bar phone with speakerphone, GIN, extendable antenna, and AMPS. Does this phone support GIN? If not, what phones for (or planned for) VZW have the above? Thanks. Scott

Palm OS 5 driver for Mot 270c w/BT addon?

Data query for 1x/csd
Apr 27, 2005, 4:51 PM
in the Verizon forum

I've heard many people voice displeasure over VZW's sudden charging of data calls per kb in addition(?) to using voice minutes. My main question is: Are the data calls being charges for both 1x and csd connections? Clarification would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Scott, Boston, MA

Help w/BT and Palm PDA
Apr 26, 2005, 4:30 PM
in the LG VX-6100 forum

I have an LG VX-6100 (non BT phone) and a Palm PDA (Sony NX70V). My goal is to pair them up via BT for dialup networking. Since the 6100 does not have BT, my plan was to get something like the Jabra A210 BT adapter. Since my PDA doesn't have BT, but does have a CF slot, I was planning to get a BT CF card. Has anyone who has a 6100 phone and a BT-capable ...

Provider services?
Nov 21, 2004, 10:43 AM
in the T-Mobile forum

I am a VZW subscriber (just renewed for two more years until the GSM world smooths out). VZW has a service called Get It Now where subscribers can download apps (traffic reports, weather radar, graphical driving directions, etc) using voice minutes. Does TMobile offer anything similar? Will they? I can see radar and traffic reports obtainable via the web, but not driving directions based on your current location and providing on-the-spot directions and re-routing. Thanks.

Treo 600/650 and GPS?
Nov 19, 2004, 8:26 AM
in the Palm Treo 650 (GSM) forum

I thought there was an FCC mandate that all new phones are required to have E911/GPS capability now. None of the Treo specs I've read say anything about built-in GPS capability. Am I missing something, or are the Treos?

LG VX-6100 vs Mot V265
Nov 17, 2004, 6:18 PM
in the Motorola V265 / V266 / V276 forum

I am currently using the VX-6100 during my NE2 15 day trial, and really like what I've seen thus far. I came from my beloved Startac 7868 which I still have. I am wondering what people's field experiences have been with the V265? I'm in the Boston area so coverage is not a problem for me. The 6100 has a nice camera and display, and I would be tempted to swap to the ...

New Get It Now for new phones - VX-6100?
Nov 13, 2004, 6:52 AM
in the Verizon forum

I just picked up a new VX-6100 through NE2 and am pretty happy with it thus far. Haven't made many calls, but l do like its features. I'm coming off a Motorola 7868, the standard I'm basing the 6100 on, plus the 6100 has a nice camera. Anyway, I am really attracted to VZW's GetItNow driving directions apps, and was hoping they would be available for the 6100 by now, but I was proven wrong. I emailed VZW ...

Inbox alert disable?
Nov 11, 2004, 2:46 PM
in the LG VX-6100 forum

When I receive an email on the phone, I get an annoying pop-up alert that I have a new message, asking if I want to read or ignore it. It would be nice to simply disable that, with just having a beep or some other subtle alert, keeping the screen untouched unless/until I am ready to view messages. Ideas? Thanks. Scott

Multiple emails to phone
Nov 11, 2004, 6:57 AM
in the LG VX-6100 forum

I finally picked up the vx6100 yesterday and like most of what I see. The one thing I haven't yet figured out is, if I receive multiple emails (not SMS messages, but emails) to the phone, I have yet to find a way to jump to message #2 right after reading message #1. Thus far, it seems I can only read one message, decide then and there if I want to save, delete, etc, and ...

GPS and Location Based Service
Nov 7, 2004, 1:58 PM
in the Motorola V265 / V266 / V276 forum

Motorola touts this phone as being compatible with LBS (Location Based Service) via subscription. My research has thus-far revealed companies providing LBS are doing so via J2ME (Java, Mobile Edition). Since VZW uses BREW, how will LBS work? Also, if VZW only supports BREW over Java, then I wonder what other aspect of the phone makes it so special that it can support LBS, as third-party LBS providers claim support for other phones, ...

Speakerphone activation?

in the LG VX-6100 forum

My cell needs include: - Speakerphone (used when I drive) - must be easy to access - Camera - AMPS/CDMA My Motorola 7868 is a dream with the add-on speakerphone, but having a camera would be a nice addition. I also qualify for NE2. All the research I've done leads to the 6100 (which would be free for me under NE2), but, even downloading the manual, I cannot figure out how to easily activate ...

Mot V265 versus Audiovox 9900?
Nov 6, 2004, 11:19 AM
in the Verizon forum

I qualify for NE2 and am debating between the v265 and Audiovox 8910/9900. The attractions for me to the v265 are the price (now that it is has been revealed), the GPS capability (direction finding, beyond E911), and the camera. I've read at least one post saying the camera doesn't work so well. How about the GPS location feature? How does that actually work? Does it require a data subscription? Is it fast? I'm a big Mot fan and ...

Treo 6xx and GPS?

in the Palm Treo 600 (CDMA) forum

I am thinking about consolidating my cell phone and PDA into one unit, and the Treo might be the answer. I'd also like to utilize it as a GPS for driving/walking navigation. Along the lines of GPS usage, Pretec is the only SDIO unit I can find for PalmOS. One important area for mapping is memory. Does the Treo have only one SD slot? If so, an extra memory card would need to ...

Re: Who's the provider for the V265

in the Motorola V265 / V266 / V276 forum

Not sure if this would be considered a "sister" to the V710. One big difference is that even though both have the E911 GPS feature built-in, the V265 goes further and adds direction-finding capability, so you get a phone and automated driving directions in one unit. But, that can only help you so long as you are in the coverage area. Scott

I am aware of my Startac's non-E911 compliance, and I do know, as well, that VZW has had E911 capability for a while. What the V265 brings to the table are live directions utilizing the GPS feature. See: http://www.motorola.com/motoinfo/product/de tails/0,,65,00.html It would be interesting to see how it would compare to my eventually GPS-enabled Sony Clie. Scott

I am not intending to knock the 710. I think it is really a potentially nice phone. I am just trying to set some realistic expectations. VZW may well hinder or modify some features for their own business reasons. I, too, was hot for the phone when I first heard about it. I've cooled down since and am looking ahead, and being practical. Back in the weeds. Scott

What if...
Jul 19, 2004, 6:04 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I would find it interesting to see how many people find the 710 to be less than adequate for their needs and wants upon availability. With all the hype, this is bound to happen. Personally, I'm looking forward to seeing what the V265 can do and how VZW implements the GPS location/direction feature. I'll stick with my trusty Startac 7868W until it breaks or the next quality phone comes out that can beat my 7868W. Scott

I would guess that may be correct. If you look at the VZW web site, you'll notice a radical change at least as of today (their phones link was not working for a couple of days due to "site maintenance" according to their message). From the looks of things, I would gather they are really trying to push out the old phones to soon get ready for the new stuff.

v710 picture samples?

Has anyone with a v710 in-hand put together a decent indoor/outdoor photo album? I'd love to see the images it produces with all kinds of light conditions, closeups, distant shots, both indoors and outdoors. Last I read, nobody could transfer the images from the phone to a PC. If/when I do get a 710, I'd be doing the transfer via a cable connection (not bluetooth), so it would also be nice to know that a cable ...

Startac 7868W and V710
Jun 22, 2004, 5:59 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I was going through some old stuff and came across my ol' trusty 7868W which hasn't been used in two years (currently using a 270c w/built-in speakerphone and nice display). I came across http://www.cit.cornell.edu/cellphone/tac7868. html to learn of the 7868's dimensions and compared those number to the size of the v710 as mentioned here, and learned the v710 should be slightly taller, slightly thinner, and slightly deeper than my 7868. I do not consider my 7868 to be small, but ...

Well, in a side-by-side comparison of the two on this site, a few pluses of the Motorola over Samsung are: - Speakerphone - AMPS/analog fallback - Bluetooth - Expansion card - PC Sync An advantage of the Samsung over the Motorola: - Call screening (as the popup on this web site defines it, in place of voicemail/answering machine, you can listen to the caller leave a message and opt to still talk to them).

Please reread my message. I never said I did _not_ want a camera as part of the phone. Part of my phone wants _include_ a camera. My only reference to no camera was when I simply said my present phone, the rock-solid Motorola 270c, has no camera. Scott

I'm a big fan of Motorola phones and have my eyes on the v710. I've found their overall quality, durability, and performance to be wonderful. As Audiovox fans, what makes the CDM models more attractive than the Motorolas? (removing price from the equation) I've never owned an Audiovox phone, so I'd be curious about your answers.
