Man, this thing is getting soooooo close to that perfect form factor that seems to be eluding us. A basic small and manageable phone for 80% use that opens up to what appears to be a blackberry like interface for text messaging on a landscape oriented screen with a qwerty keyboard (I still hate the stylus.) Just add a good processor, apps for email checking, web, word docs, excel sheets, expandable memory, 3G/edge and an easy way ...

WHY? When this phone first popped up, I thought, "wow." Now, I am thinking ok, it twists, and it folds. But they both do the same thing. Why have both? Is there any conceivable advantage to having both on the same phone? The camera is not revealed by twisting, its just on the back, and it does not appear as though the screen changes from portrait to landscape when twisted halfway (now ...

V710 Price and Hype?
Jun 3, 2004, 9:27 AM
in the Motorola V710 forum

I was interested in this phone, but the long delay has now pushed the phone release back so far I am concerned that it will be competing with a new breed of phones by the time I see it in stores. What are the odds that we shell out over 250 dollars for this thing and then 2 months later all camera phone prices drop as a flood of entry level camera phones are released?

I agree, the 9900 is taking too long to come out. I am not that thrilled about it, have already seen it for Sprint, the novelty of the screen is not enough compared to the features of phones that are about to drop and may even beat the 9900 to market. The 710, appears to be much better and much more current (well, current now, we will see when it makes it to market) although it does ...

the 810 will be VERY dated when it comes out. Best thing about will be the size and the screen resolution. Everything else will be dated (compared to other phones out at same time.) My initial comment had nothing to do with coverage and giving yet another venue for verizon salespeople to repeat "we are number one in coverage" a million times was not my intent either. THANK YOU, finally a decent answer. NO CARRIER IS PERFECT. Now was that so hard? Very few VZW peeps are willing to have an open mind such as you have just demonstrated. Now, you are in a much better position to understand other peoples' perspectives and frustrations. The point of these threads is to get Verizon to be in the same enlightened place as yourself. And I wish them the best to that end.

I agree completely. I have noticed something interesting that perhaps someone can shed some light on. Based on the FCC approval dates, it really doesnt seem like Verizon tests their phones any longer than any one else. The problem seems to be that verizon waits about 4-6 months after the other carriers to even develop/introduce the phones in the first place. I suspect it is a cost saving measure for them and the testing line ...

MMS question

Excuse me in advance if this topic has already been answered, but I was wondering if this phone had the ability to instantly receive messages/reply to messages on the phone itself without having to connect to a server. My current GSM phone gets and sends text messages with speeds close to that of MSN or AOL on my PC and I have heard that Sprint was different and required an intermediate step which slowed down the process.

I personally am leary about that phone. The big screen is has is nice, but once the novelty wears off you have to live with its drawbacks such as a phone that gets very warm, shorter battery life and a phone that is pretty, well, um, big. If you must have a video phone, there is that samsung that should be considered as well. Bottom line, if you are in a hurry for a nice new ...
