Not the answer to your question, but try forwarding them to a friend and have him/her send the messages to your new phone.

For future reference, getting a card would be the easiest, especially since she can use the card to later store more pictures on it or whatever! Not to mention, they are definitely a lot cheaper than they used to be! You could probably find one for cheap.
Re: Change format for text messaging
If you go to messaging (open phone, left "soft" key) and go to settings, the first option called messages view allows you to sort your messages by time (with inbox and sent folders) or by contact.
I know I'm way late on this, but I thought someone else might search the forum for this one day and need to know how so I figured it wouldn't hurt to answer. I certainly hope you've figured it out by now, however, ...
