HTC: Lose the Speakers and sell a lot of these!
Dec 20, 2014, 6:11 PM
in the HTC One (M8) for Windows (CDMA) forum

The HTC Droid Incredible was my first HTC phone. It was so good that I was happy to upgrade to the extraordinary HTC DNA, still on Verizon. The DNA is super phone, but the M8 specs have taken it up a couple of rungs on the ladder. The problem with the M8 is simple: those big, honking stereo speakers. The cost of those behemoths (in mobile phone terms) is that the phone is just too ...

Calendar Expansion
Jul 3, 2012, 3:47 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE forum

In the Week and Month views, my 2010 Droid Incredible Calendar has useless bars for each day containing an event. You have to open the Day or List view to see what is there. Somewhere I read that Android 4.0 has a pinchable calendar, so I am hoping that between the slightly larger screen and the pinch feature, that I can see a week view with actual data. Does anybody know if that is the case? ...

App Transfers to New Phone
Jul 3, 2012, 3:43 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE forum

I have had the original DI for more than two years and have a useful app that does not appear to be available (Grocery List v 1.5). It resides on the DI, not the SD Card. Is it possible to transfer an app if I upgrade to a new DI4?

Got OTA update last week. No problems and startup/shutdown seem faster - though HTC retained the noisy "DROID" vocal on startup. Only downside so far is I miss the ability to press the top button and select "Silent" mode; only choices now are Off|Airplane|Restart so I had to add the Profile widget to have handy access to Silent & Vibrate modes.

OTA Update alert came in today; seamless update, but it did change default tones for ring & alert. No apparent difference in reception (I have some dead spots), but some new features: 1. BT dial/answer. With DInc in sleep mode, you can answer or voice dial by just pressing the BT headset button. This is a BIG DEAL for me and very welcome; can now answer without removing phone from pocket and call without having to touch ...

If you just turn it on, it runs at peak performance. You need to cruise the posts about conserving battery, which has not been a problem for me, and it does have a couple of minor failings; otherwise it is aptly named.

Re: Is Incredible worth the battery headaches?

The simple, fail-safe solution is to carry a spare battery, but you shouldn't need it if just using the phone features and you surely won't need it if you keep it off until you need to check v/m or make a call. If you have reception, then you are probably not too far from your car; if you do real off-track camping, a cell phone is useless. I spend 30-40 mins per day talking plus the odd ...

Re: Voice dialing

Don't know about apps for this function. It takes a minimum of 4 touches to make a call: one way is waken/unlock/[voice-dial widget on home screen]/confirm selection. Alternatively, I have Favorites on the next screen and they allow 1-touch dialing. "Voice Dialing" ALWAYS produces a confirmation screen. If I say, "Call Tiger at home" it gives me a confirmation screen for Tiger's home number, even when it is the only phone book entry and is recited ...

Phone ID - in case phone is lost
May 29, 2010, 4:20 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

On all past phones, I have been able to have my name and a landline number appear on the startup screen, so a finder would know who to call - never had it happen, but it seems useful. This phone is inaccessible to a finder if locked. I have only found two ways to do this on the HTC Incredible, neither elegant: 1. Edit a JPG wallpaper to include the info so it appears on the lock screen. 2. ...

Re: Must Have Accessories?

If you take care of it and don't have hostile environment issues, the glass won't scratch and needs no screen protector. My phone rides safely in my back handkerchief pocket; my wife tosses her LG Venus in a purse and the plastic screen is badly scratched. I have the VZW stock silicone cover (comes in red or black) and it feels good/works great, except that for stereo you need a neck-down adapter that fits in the case hole; a ...

Re: Disappearing ringtones
May 18, 2010, 5:41 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

Thanks for the input. I have not found a setting/option for saving ringtones on the SD Card; they save by default on the HTC. The problem was that Saving the ringtone as a Contact Ringtone via the editor does not save the Contact settings after powering down; you must also Save the updated Contact card. I turn my phone off for three reasons: (1) I figure the battery will last 50% longer if used 16 hrs/day ...

Re: Charging
May 18, 2010, 5:23 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

My Incredible charges in 1-2 hours (haven't actually timed it) using the included HTC charger that has 5v/1000mA output. The USB spec (www.usb.org) for battery charging is basically 2v-5.25v and 0-1500mA, so the charging time may vary by charging device and your laptop may be slower than the HTC charger. Higher amps would be faster but may overheat a particular battery. Sounds like the iPhone charges faster at your laptop's output and that may be normal.

Disappearing rintones

in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

I have created contact/custom ringtones using the nifty built-in editor and Saved them. They work for a day and then disappear from both the Contact and the list of available ringtones. Not sure if this happens when powering down or recharging or what. Any thoughts on how to prevent this?

Re: security

It has a connect-the-dots security option; you create a pattern as an unlock code. One problem is that it must be changed periodically to avoid scratching/smudging it onto the screen over time.

Changing Pre-set Screens
May 9, 2010, 12:31 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

The HTC comes with 7 screens, with #4 being the default, center screen. I can add/remove and drag most everything from screen to screen, EXCEPT: screen 3 is email and screen 6 is Text. I can drag screen 6 to screen 7 (only if 7 is unpopulated), but is there a way to Remove/Re-add it elsewhere? The Messages widget/program is a small icon, not the nice view (widget?/program?/shortcut?)that is used on screen 6.

see my post below - you approach via Music, not via People, THEN your selection is added to the Ringtones list and is available for other use.

Re: ringtones - downloading and editing

I was unable to download MP3's directly from Amazon; had to download to computer first, but then: 1. You just plug the HTC into a computer via the included micro-USB cable and the HTC shows as drive D (micro-SD) and E (HTC) on my laptop. You can copy the downloaded folders to the MP3 folder on the HTC. No need to remove the cover and SD card. 2. Lacoste90210 (Thank you!) is right. The included MP3 editor works great ...

Re: How is voice to text?

Other than voice-dialing, my last venture with VTT was 10 years ago, so I am wowed. The Incredible is outstanding for text messaging and To-Do tasks. Dictating, "are we meeting at 6 o'clock tonight at kabuki question mark" produced exactly that, with "?" replacing the last two words. If you type names and other words not known to the HTC, you get an orange-colored bug that asks if you want to add to the dictionary - I ...

The included PDF Reader works fine. I can attach the VZW Manual to an email and read the PDF attachment. I just don't know yet how else to navigate to the document and read it cuz I dunno where it is.

I had downloaded to my PC the VZW online PDF Manual for the Incredible (5.5 Mb). Setting up email on the phone, I mailed it to my phone email account. When I opened it, I got a msg asking if I want to save it to the SD Card or to the phone memory, so saved it to the phone memory. Haven't figured out how to find/read it yet :) other than to attach it to an ...

Re: Voice dialing - actually NOT voice dialing

Aha! This works, thank you, and led to more exploring. What I now know is that VZW Backup Assistant (saves Contacts to VZW server daily) - which worked seamlessly to download Contacts to new phone - did NOT translate the OLD "Wait" and "Pause" characters. The P and W still appeared in the phone number, but not recognized as such by HTC device; so it was necessary to edit them out and replace them with - duh! - ...

Re: How well does this thing actually make and receive calls?
Apr 29, 2010, 1:08 PM
in the HTC Droid Incredible forum

Call quality is excellent on the phone and on BT headset. I doubt that there is a universal standard for the number of bars; one phone may report 4 bars and have ok reception, another may report 2 bars and have very good reception. This phone seems to be in the latter category; it holds calls through a mountainous area where I could never before hold a VZW connection. The phone drawbacks are: 1. to receive a call ...

Things you never thought to ask... 1. With my old LG phone, I tap my BT headset and it asks me to "Say a Command" like "Call Jack Kevorkian mobile". This phone requires that you (a) slide the lock open - or trace a security pattern, (b) locate and tap the voicedial widget (which can, at least, be moved to the Home screen and (c) after announcing the name to be called, you must tap the ...
