In our Best Buy, we know more than most anybody in any of the carrier stores. And we sell three different carriers. This is the case in pretty much every Best Buy I've been into also. I actually had an AT&T rep tell me that $20 gets you unlimited data and text on an iPhone two days ago. It likely depends on where you are, but Best Buy reps aren't totally inept...

I would recommend the same no matter where you go. No matter what store you go to, there are uneducated people. I had several people come in from the AT&T corporate store and tell me that associates told them texting and internet was included free in their plan...

That's funny, because Best Buy Mobile associates often times spend 2+ hours with a customer setting all this up. Not to mention many carriers have eliminated data transfer machines from their stores, forcing corporate stores to send customers to Best Buy.
