Sticky Main Screen and Calendar
Nov 4, 2010, 5:51 PM
in the Nokia N8-00 forum

When I return to the main screen from an app or another use, the phone freezes for about 30 seconds and will not take an immediate command. If commands are tapped they will then be performed in quick succession when the unit wakes up. When I go to the calendar it takes quite a while for the days in the month view to populate and then to be able to write a meeting or to-do with alarm. ...

VDP: Thank you for the response. I just ordered an N95 and should be receiving it at the end of the week. I can see this is going to be exciting, enjoyable, and time wasting (er consuming) to get all these features to work as designed and on the cheap.

T-Mobile and WCDMA Access - What Gives?
Sep 27, 2007, 7:35 AM
in the Nokia N95 forum

Does anyone know which band TM is going to use for WCDMA access? The following sentence, from an article excerp found in the home page of phonescoop, makes me a bit uneasy about T-Mobile's plans for deploying WCDMA: "T-Mobile spent $4.2 billion to acquire 120 licenses in the 1700 MHz band, and reportedly offered the federal government an additional $50 million to move off of that spectrum sooner rather than later." As some of you may recall, WCDMA ...

N95 IS FINALLY IN AT THE NYC STORE
Sep 26, 2007, 2:51 PM
in the Nokia N95 8GB forum

Just spoke to a salesman in the NYC flagship store and he informed me that the N95 had just arrived and it is on sale for $699.00. They will not ship and one has to add NYC sales tax to that - ouch.

I guess some of you have spoken to more cooperative salesmen in NYC. I just called and asked about the arrival and price range for the N95-3, the person just told me by rote: We do not have a date or price range. He would not confirm an end of the week arrival nor any kind of price level. I guess we will have to sit tight and patiently wait until it finally arrives.

Confused on GPS
Sep 24, 2007, 9:13 AM
in the Nokia N95 8GB forum

I have been led to believe that the N95 has an independent GPS system - that is independent from the provider's transmission towers. Quick look at the glossary section of this forum, shows two types of GPS systems. In both cases it says that a signal from a tower, or towers, is necessary for the GPS to work. Does the N95 have an independent GPS chip that works directly with the satellites, or does it still need a ...

n his review of the N95, wish4an95 says that there is a new model that has better battery life. 1- How can one tell the difference between the old and the new models? 2- Has anyone bought an N95 from hi-mobile.net and did you get the new or the old model? 3- Is the difference between the old and new models a firmware update or is there a physical difference? 4- Is Nokia-USA selling the new or the old model? Thank you.

Thank you for your response strangerthanfiction48. Already, as you pointed out, there are caveats to this announcement. Quoting from the press release: "While many European countries have a 2,100-MHz band as well, their band is configured differently, so European 2,100-MHz devices will not be able to work well on the American version." We will just have to wait and see what it is that they are giving us and if indeed our devices and bands are going to be ...

T-Mobile Announcement - Good For the N80?

I read the following in a PC Magazine e-mail: "T-Mobile to Announce 3G Plans On Thurs., Sources Say - 10.04.06 By Wayne Rash T-Mobile sources have told eWEEK that the company is scheduling a press conference for Oct. 6 in New York for the purposes of making a major announcement in the wake of the company's win in the recent frequency auction. in the Nokia N80 forum

Thank you strangerthanfiction48 for the detailed explanation. Reading between the lines, I guess what you are saying is that this telephone is a good buy regardless of the WCDMA issue. A few more questions: 1- Will a software upgrade be able to change the WCDMA from 2100 to 1900 - in the event that it ever comes out? 2- Has anyone deployed WCDMA 1900 here, or do you know of a "reasonable" timetable for the implementation of this technology in ...

Regarding WCDMA 1900 - New Buyers

1.- How does one know which version of WCDMA the telephone has? 2.- To new buyers - Does your telephone have WCDMA 1900 or WCDMA 2100? 3.- If WCDMA 1900, where did you buy your telephone? So far, the stores I have found in the USA, that are carrying this telephone, only have the 2100 WCDMA version. This would be a big handicap for this telephone. Maybe strangerthanfiction48 has an idea as to where to get a USA model. Thank ...

I went to Spain for two and a half weeks and used the global feature from T-Mobile. I made calls to the US and they cost $0.99. While in Spain I would roam on Movistar mostly. I spent almost all of my time outside Madrid, in Galicia, Leon, Asturias, Extremadura, Castilla, and Andalucia and did not have any problems with the signal.

If you are going to use T-Mobile, they will unlock the telephone you buy before you leave on your trip. That way the foreign sim card will work. I do not know of a time frame before they do the unlocking, but it may be nice to have the service for over one month, at least. I would not fool around buying foreign sim cards on e-bay. As someone said before, there are phone kiosks all over ...

Just got back from Spain where I inquired with a reseller about rates and sim cards. What is cheaper seems to depend on how much calling you want to do. I used the T-Mobile international roaming plan since I did not need to be called either from the US or from Spain - the cost is $0.99/minute. If one is going to be there for only a few days or weeks, the way to go is ...

Your statement about satellite telephones is not correct. There was a company that had quite a few satellites in orbit a few years ago, that did offer global telephone communication via satellite. That company went under and was bought by another one that I believe is trying to market the service. Also, there are certain government and private industry installations that use satellite telephones for communicating in case of emergencies or with far away and inhospitable ...

I will not attempt to educate you on bluetooth, except to say that it is not that challenging to set up and use. I read the instructions, for both the telephone and the PC interface, and did a successful synch in under half an hour. My telephone is an SE T610, but I am sure that the settings and procedures are similar for other brands.

Miguelito: This is a very comprehensive report about this issue. I have one question though, on the last paragraph you say: "I don't believe that an unlocked phone will be usable with a Deutsche Telekom (T-Mobile Deutschland) SIM...", did you mean to say "locked" instead of "unlocked". In other words, a USA t-Mobile locked telephone was not sure to work with t-Mobile in Germany, even though they are the same company and one buys a German chip - ...

At first glance the UK programs appear very inexpensive, by our standards. However, one must remember that the British do not earn as much as people do in the USA. Overall, though, I think they are getting better equipment for a lower oprice. One example is a free Motorola V600 with 200 everyone minutes for roughly $45.00 per month.

How Crucial is the 800/850 Band
Apr 23, 2004, 5:33 PM

In this forum's Latest News the article about AT&T's network improvements said the following: "The new hardware and software lets callers with compatible GSM/GPRS devices use the 850-megahertz band of the radio spectrum, which generates a stronger signal than the 1900-megahertz band, travels over larger areas, and penetrates walls better, the company noted." 1.- How badly will AT&T 900/1800/1900 telephones be affected after this improvements? 2.- Does this mean that AT&T customers will be required to have the 800/850 band? 3.- How ...

Going on my recollection of telephone rates in Europe, I will probably agree with you, although I do not have specific details either. Having said the above, I was surprised to learn that my mother's maid in the Dominican Republic had a cell telephone for which she paid a flat rate and no additional charges for calls or time. The flat rate does not seem to be prohibitive and I guess the use of cell telephones in third world countries ...

MK, I have to agree with you. I want a PDA/telephone combination so that I do not have to carry two units, as I do now.
