How do I dial "vanity" numbers on 700p
Jul 31, 2007, 11:38 AM
in the Palm Treo 700p forum

How do you dial business phone numbers that are spelled out? For example, the phone number for Met Insurance is listed in advertising as "1-800-GET-MET1" without listing the keypad number equivalents. Is there a trick to dialing this? My old Blackberry had a shift-key function to do this, I gotta think the Palm does as well. Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Boost i835 with a Nextel SIM, browser doesn't work
Mar 8, 2006, 10:57 AM
in the Nextel forum

Hi all, I purchased a new in box i835 from eBay a few months ago to use with my existing Nextel number and rate plan. I popped the SIM chip in the i835, and the cell and DC work perfectly. TeleNav even works correctly. However, when I try to go the web browser, I get ann error message that says "unsupported content type". Any way around this??

Okay, let's run with that analogy. You say you OWN your car. Do you? Do you owe the bank/finance company a single dollar on that car? If so then you don't really own that car. But I bet everyone who has financed a car would casually say they OWN it even while they are still making payments. Same thing here, someone (I guess nextel-18) casually said Nextel OWNs QChat, when the reality is that they have ...

Exactly. Older Nextel models, including the base stations, were never designed to allow cross fleeting and their software hasn't been updated to allow the new functionality. Simply an outdated piece of equipment.

Nope. If, and when, Nextel goes CDMA for their voice it would make sense to play nice with PTT competitors. In the world of the present, which is where this thread started, it makes no sense for Nextel to give Sprint the HUGE advantage that Sprints PTT product would gain from being able to PTT with the 13 million + Nextel customers. So the idea that Nextel and Sprint are days or even months away from ...

don't see it happening. What would be the advantage for Nextel? They won't do it unless there's a compelling WIIFM. Not saying the technology couldn't do it. Throw money at a technology issue, and you can make it work.

It's got to have something in the name field. It doesn't have to be "standard", but it has to be something. If you leave it blank, as you've learned, it just goes back to what it was before. Just name it something that you wouldn't mind seeing on your idle screen and go with it.

Good debate point!! But still, just because TJ said "some" things that history has proven false does not mean that "all" of his views are incorrect. So, are you saying you disagree with the "freedom, security" statement?? Or did you just have a quote that you wnated to use?? :?

Eventually they are supposed to have GPS built in, but not all carriers/phone manufacturers are there yet. And, as Airwar said, the local 911 folks are even further behind in the technology. Now if you're wanting to use your phone as a GPS unit to determine driving directions like newer cars built-in GPS systems, I think Nextel is the only one out there offering this now, although I'm sure others are looking to get in the game.

Yep, VZW and Sprint had both been using QChat in some of their pilots of PTT, but hadn't signed a long term deal with Qualcomm because they wanted to keep looking at other vendors. Nextel saw a chance to yank the QChat rug out from under them and did. Of equal, or perhaps greater benefit, was that Nextel acquired not just the domestic right to QChat, but the international as well. So if a carrier in ...

Okay, I think we have gotten your point. And to a degree, I agree with some of your points 1) Yes, the FCC should have more important things to worry about than camera phones. Really, it's their job to takes care of the airwaves, not the features of the devices that use those airwaves. 2) Yes, the consensus plan is a much bigger and more important task on their plate right now 3) On the other hand, camera phones have ...

Why not simply sell the phones they normally sell, and let people know which ones work internationally. Common misconception. Their Falcon line of phones will work in certain South America locations, some markets in Israel, and a couple of other ...

Okay, boys, let's get this straight. Nextel paid Motorola for use of the iDEN system, and had an agreement to be the primary national carrier using that technology. Motorola also sold smaller iDEN systems to companies like SouthernLink. Zero cooperation between Nextel and these other companies, Motorola is the common thread. Nextel never had a patent on iDEN, obviously Motorola did, still does. Nextel had trademark protection on the "Direct Connect" phrase. Never trademarked "PTT" and now wishes ...

Followed a hunch and checked the other carrier's forums and, wow, look what I found. There you are on the Cingular forum, making posts admitting you are a Cingular dealer. 8O So, why not divulge that when you're in here slamming Nextel?? Hilarious

1. Small market share - toughest credit requirements have something to do with this. Also a higher cost product is going to eliminate price-shoppers. 2. "Nothing more than walkie-talkie to hang your hat on = ashamed" :? If it sucks so bad, why is every carrier out there desperate to emulate?? Oh, and in reply to your other reply on a different thread, VZ had less than a second latency...IN TESTING!! I'll believe it when ...

You miss the point. Lowest churn means that customers ARE satisfied with Nextel since they are not leaving to go elsewhere. Low bad debt means that people are willing to pay for what they get, therefore they must perceive it as being valuable. I agree the higher CPGA means much more to the carrier than to the customer, but it's indicative of the mantra "you get what you pay for". People are only willing to spend more if they ...

Motorola quality really does still mean something. Here's the challenge: Stand up, hold your arm out straight in front of you, and drop your phone. With almost any Motorola product, the worst you have is a bent antenna, or the battery door flies off. 99/100 times the phone will power up and work fine. Now do this with a Nokia, Samsung or LG. Probably still will have a survival rate of 50%+, but nowhere near ...

Purchase a data plan from Nextel, then sign up at telenav.net. I think it's about $12 a month. The how is like this: You can pre-plan your trip by logging into the telenav website and entering street locations. When you turn on your phone and open up the telenav appication, you "refresh" your address list. All the addresses that you entered (up to 10) on the website are now in a menu on your phone. Scroll and ...

So, to clarify: 1)Company has never been sold, just grew out of a number of smaller companies that operated mainly under the name FleetCall 2) JD Power award winner as the best Cust service in the wireless industry. Kind of like saying they suck the least out of an industry where cust service is not great. 3) No way Nextel could be, or would even think about committing the kind of fraud you imply, Mistake on their end, ...
