Re: how Durable is this phone?!

in the Samsung SGH-D807 / D806 forum

i'm a recent college grad and i lived in a fraternity house for a couple of years so i know what you mean. and i have spilled beer on mine. actually my roommate did that for me. i've dropped mine, i've kicked mine, and i've had beer spilled on it. it still works great. however, i haven't fallen on it. but i'm sure it stands a pretty good chance at surviving that too.

i think you have to save the number to the phone itself and not the sim card to get the pic to pop up. i don't like it and don't want double entries of everything on my phone so i don't use the photo id stuff.

i can charge mine and use it for 3 days without charging it again. fairly heavy user also. about 2000 to 2500 minutes in a month. days, nights, in network, etc. all included.

can't say that i've read that anywhere. phonescoop doesn't say how big it can be and neither does the user guide. guess i'll find out when my 1 gb card comes in the mail.

also, in gsm's infancy states-side, there was a lot of talk about GPS in cell phones. using 2 of the same letters really threw people off. that was what i noticed when i sold phones at that time.

i just use the voice dialing feature. you don't have to program it b/c it will recognize everyone's voice and all you have to do is have a contact in your phone book.

Re: Motorola v557 or Samsung d407?
Jun 8, 2006, 10:44 AM
in the AT&T forum

i went through 2 557's before i recently replaced it with a different samsung model. i hated that moto phone. it was such a piece of crap. the earpiece went out on it. the only way i could use it for the rest of my contract was to use a headset. so i had to go buy a bluetooth headset. stay as far away as possible from the moto.

SLVR and Walmart?
Feb 14, 2006, 1:26 AM
in the AT&T forum

Has anyone else bought their SLVR L7 from WalMart? I know that ant1171984 bought one, but I haven't found the phone in my local Wal Mart. Has anyone even seen the SLVR in their local Wal Marts? Also, I don't really care about being right or not about buying from Wal Mart. I'm going to get mine from them anyways. Even if it means feeding the "Corporate Machine" so please save those arguments (either ...

Re: does the IMEI serve any purpose at all?
Feb 2, 2006, 12:29 AM

they can use it in their systems to tell what kind of phone you use for activating additional features. i.e. they couldn't put u on a GAIT plan if your IMEI said it was a GSM only phone. the same goes for data plans and what not.

New Phones
Nov 7, 2005, 9:20 AM
in the AT&T forum

I'm eligible for an upgrade at the end of this month and want to get a phone that will be compatible with the new faster data network. I live in the Dallas TX market and i know it's being launched here, but what phones either out now (i don't think there are any) or phones that will be out soon will be compatible with this network? Thanks.

TheVZWMan said: Even with the merger, at the rate that VZW is growing, customer base wise, Cingular will only be ahead for maybe until the end of the year...at least in that aspect... i don't think so. i don't think that's even close. actually, i know that's not even close. vzw has about 40 million customers according to their website. cingular and at&t have 24 million and 21.692 million respectively according to their websites. that's a ...

Re: my disappointment

you said that you called on your way to work, so you must have used your cell phone. check your phone records for a call to customer care and check the length on it. i'm sure suspension of a line was a lengthy enough call and if you have a record of you calling in, they should have to explain what it was about. good luck.

you can port from any carrier to another carrier at any time. however all companies will apply the early termination fee if that number is still under contract.

could you please explain to those of us who don't know the difference between a "promotional" plan and all others. i don't work for cingular, but i sell it and that has never been established with me. thanks.

Re: Disappointed with Cingular!!!
Jul 1, 2004, 11:30 AM

when you change your plan with cingular, it will likely extend the contract if you are that close to the end of it. so be careful with that. also, know that you can't take your number with you until the contract is up with cingular. you will have to get all new numbers for the phones still under contract.

Re: Coverage in Arlington, TX
Jun 30, 2004, 8:43 AM
in the AT&T forum

a lot of that has to do with the construction of the buildings. some buildings really aren't very friendly to the radio waves of cell phones. i go to UNT and have the same problem in some of the buildings up here. unless anyone else is getting a strong signal in that building with, i wouldn't really recommend needing to change anything.

Re: data svc

sprint would not be able to cover you for data service in mexico. at&t's data network has been launched in the dallas ft worth market, but it's not everywhere. it would cover you in d/fw down to san antonio and houston. that's about it. check out their data map on their website. so i'm pretty sure it wouldn't cover you out of the country.

SPCSVZWJeff said: We have customers with Samsung VGA-1000 phones connecting them to their notebook computers (we all know Sprint frowns on this) getting speeds in excess of 200kbps. As unbelievable as that sounds because 1x is only really supposed to go to 144kbps it is very likely true because it is more than a handful of customers who say this. It only happens with VGA-1000's and keep in mind our market has very little network traffic so a busy ...

actually edge is faster than vision is (until the network upgrade anyways). The average speeds of edge are 100-130 kbps with peaks of up to 200 kbps. refer to: http://www.attwireless.com/press/releases/200 3_releases/111803.jhtml;dsessionid=MK4SLYRWHE EVTB4R0G0CFFA all of the companies are just going back and forth with their data networks. there will be a step after edge so gsm carriers can say they will be the fastest and then sprint will come out with something else. and when it all comes down to ...

Re: sprint gps

i don't know that much about nextel. that's why i post in the sprint forum. my post was geared toward sprint's capabilities as well as my local 911 service capabilities. i've talked to a few local(dallas/ft. worth) police officers about the GPS location and they have all told me that they use triangulation and always get one towers location. this means a rather large radius in which to find someone. if the local 911 ...

Re: Upgrades and ETF

it's still generally cheaper to pay full retail for the phone than it is to pay the termination fee and an activation fee on a new phone. but the rep wouldn't make any money if they just sold them the phone outright at full retail price. i don't know for sure, but given the information, this is what it sounds like happened to me.

Re: sprint gps
Jun 22, 2004, 3:42 AM
in the Sprint forum

yeah, a lot of people are extremely misunderstood when it comes to cell phones and GPS. i know that it works off of a triangulation with the network. but just to make another point, have you seen a GPS unit as small or smaller than a cell phone? i'm pretty sure it wouldn't be possible to make these phones as small as they do if they had true GPS built into it. also, the fcc ...
