its not the lack of 4g that bugs me its the lack of front facing camera that annoys me :-(

MANY users will "pay" for more. the profits from those users will more than make up for the few that stick with the "free only" option.

you folks are missing the TRULY interesting point here. what does it matter of the hot spot is $20 if you can't afford the bandwidth. my god 10 devices sucking down your 4gb of bandwidth. you would have overages in a couple hours of usage.

root that critter and put CM7 on it. The prevail is actually pretty nice and snappy a perform with CM7 onboard. or just get an S2. you can get sprint S2's for $150 if you hunt for them.

Re: Samsung Moment or the new Blackberry? so not sure

The reason a car charger can be bad ESPECIALLY a cheap car charger. Lion batteries are difficult to "determine" level of charge above 90% SO you charge in 1 of 2 ways. #1 you charge and after a little bit you determine charge level and either continue charging or STOP charging. #2 if charge level is over 90% you apply NO charge until it drops below 90% and then you charge to full. Most car chargers are method #1 since #2 is far more ...

I would also like to know this. Will it read SDHC cards?

Re: 4GB MicroSD
Jul 25, 2009, 10:09 AM
in the BlackBerry 8830 forum

Most old devices can PHYSICALLY read SDHC cards but their FIRMWARE can not read SDHC cards. ie if you have a good hacking community for the device OR the manufacturer wants to be nice AND your device is able to have its firmware update then its possible to make an old SD device SDHC compatible. there is also an "inbetween" step. there are some non standard 4gb SD cards that are NOT SDHC. if your device is not SDHC compatible BUT ...

Re: How to get Ringers and Pictures onto the phone

in the Samsung SCH-R211 forum

I figured the phone out. I have an R210 from metro so once I got the SPC I looked at its file system and FOUND my files. I put them in the same location on the R211 and it works a treat! brew/mod directory. "1088" is where you put the pictures 128x128 jpg's "mr" is where you put the ring tones (mp3) remember only 2mb of space so keep em small and you can put 3-5 of them in there. you MUST reboot the phone ...

How to get Ringers and Pictures onto the phone

How do I put ringers and pics on this phone? I need to get 2 sounds and 1 image onto the phone. Rep lied to me said it was same as 210 but black. Well missing bluetooth is a hell of a giant difference !! Grrrr Would something like bitpim or cdma workshop interface with this phone ? it has 2mb available which is more than enough for what I want to put on it. Where would I get the drivers? Thanks!

Re: COPPER OPENING ON SIDE OF 8830
May 1, 2009, 10:42 AM

I believe that is an electrical contact for Blackberry HOLSTERS. I think its a simple dumb circuit when you complete the circuit the phone knows its in a holster and uses the holster ring profiles etc.. Imagine in a business environment and you want the phone to be quite when in the holster. instead of having to turn it on and change settings you PREDEFINE the settings and just shove it in the holster and it changes. At least thats how I think ...

Just put your mp3's on the sd card. This is one of the very few phones where you can actually SELECT an mp3 directly off the msd card to use as a ringer WITHOUT the need to upload it to internal memory. Very nice :-)

May 1, 2009, 10:36 AM

I find call quality to be exceptional! easily the equal to my sanyo phones and thats saying a lot. I also find SINGAL acquisition to be spectacular! in the back room at work even the sanyo can only hold a single if I hold the phone "up" and only on the right side of my head :-) (concrete room) with the 8830 not only can I use it anywhere but I Get 2 bars! on Rt206 almost all phones drop out ...

May 1, 2009, 10:33 AM

I found my battery life to be stellar. and this is a used phone used battery. Now my STELLAR rating comes from comparison to other PDA data active phones. this thing makes palm and winmo battery lifes seem downright paultry in comparison. Off course no regular pda phone can touch a NORMAL phone's battery life. but with moderate usage I have no doubt I could make 2 days on my 8830 and with a nightly charge usage is nearly unlimited. I mean ...

Hmm I just got a used 8830 for sprint off ebay and my first experience is that the voice quality is spectacular. I mean REALLY good. not the loudest phone (more than enough for me) but ultra crystal clear on both ends. It could be either your area? or maybe a goofy handset?

ok I found the solution It was the ONE single menu I did not go into had NO intention of going into and should NOT have any relevance to this issue the Metro Web menu!! normaly when you goto something like this it just goes right into loading a web broswer and potentially incurring data charges. on the spex it does not it gets a menu including a my pics my tones etc.. menu where you can see and delete items ...

(I am in the philly area) who do I call to find out about this? I have an old sanyo 6200 I would love to flash over.

Re: Problems Downloading Ringtones with Messager???
Dec 15, 2008, 12:13 AM

zThe problem is the phone does not support the GCD download method. most CDMA phones and many others download "weird" the links are for a GCD file which contains tech info on the file. these phones "know" what to do with that file to result in a download. the messenger just DISPLAYS the contents of the GCD file as text (that is all thats in it) so it clearly does not understand this to be a download link. The NICE thing is ...

JUST put it in a candy bar form factor (thin) wide and long is ok as long as its thin. Thats it. I got to play with one today and its rather nice for a motorola. They usually totally fubar the GUI but this one lacks all the things that make me hate motorola. OK does it play MP3's as ringers? (I know it will not from the SD (it can but they won't let them) I mean can I use rumkin and upload an mp3 or m4a file or MUST I convert to QCP? Is there anyway to make the video player ...

Re: I have some questions - MP3 Pictures NAI etc..
Oct 23, 2007, 6:53 PM
in the Palm Centro 690 (CDMA) forum

NAI is how sprint determines the difference casually between ON device usage (covered under vision plan) and OFF device usage (covered under PAM usage) I just want to use a different PALM (same OS5 even) to access the internet from because my zodiac has better speakers screen and battery life :-) AS for mp3 ringers there IS a separate program to use MP3's off the memory card as ringers? got ny URL's for these ? Thanks!

Re: WiFi?
Oct 22, 2007, 2:22 PM
in the Palm Centro 690 (CDMA) forum

Because EVDO coverage is not complete. Because When you goto a hotel you might be on regular vision (13kbps) but have free WIFI access Because LARGE downloads are not so effecient over EVDO Because (assuming the hardware can handle it) it would allow you to "give" wifi access to anything that also has Bluetooth (though anything such as laptop with BT access likely also has WIFI access) Plus sometimes its just nice to have and not worry about a data plan.

One time $35 sounds nice to me :-) I will check them out. Now I just have to see if someone has hacked a way to use mp3 from SD card ringers and if I can somehow hack full screen picture caller ID :-) Thanks for the replies MUCH appreciated! Chris Taylor http://www.nerys.com/

Oh and $40 is $5 more than my total monthly bill. You think I should more than double my phone bill just to gain access to piscel and that extra 160 pixels? yeah I guess thats being cheap :-)

Oct 19, 2007, 2:51 AM

Not wanting to pay $40 to do what I can already do from the phone has nothing to do with being cheap. They are both palm devices. Whats the difference to sprint if I use one palm over another palm. The same quantity of data will be used either way. I just happen to prefer the nice massive screen of my Zodiac over the phone :-) Plus the piscel browser rocks at 480x320 :-) The no mp3 ring and tiny ...

Oct 18, 2007, 2:01 AM

Can I disable NAI on this so I can connect to my Tapwave Zodiac to get internet via BT without having to pay for Tethering? (Whats the difference if I browse on my Palm Zodiac or on the palm Centro to sprint :-) Can I use MP3's as ringers and can they reside on the Mini SD card? Does it support Picture caller ID ? can these reside on the SD card and is it large or tiny? Are the pictures independent ...

Well ther 610 has more memory IIRC and a 320x240 screen (the 220x176 screen is a deal breaker for me) The best phone currently is the sanyo 8400 every feature you could want and 60mb of internal memory!!

If you damage comes from DROPPING them the solution really is easy. Get a leather case for the phone. The problem is not the drop its the deceleration when it hits the ground. it can be well over a thousand g's of impact force if it lands on concrete or tile etc.. The simply $4 leather case from ebay will reduce the G's of impact force to under 100 g's almost 100% of the time virtually eliminating any chance of ...

External Battery Charger for 8400 Batteries
May 19, 2007, 5:55 AM
in the Sanyo SCP-8400 forum

I have 4 batteries for my phone (got a really good deal on OEM batteries so I grabbed them) anyway in the past you could get a desktop charger for a phone. I am not all that interest in a desk charger (though I would love to have one) I AM interested in the "other half" of the desktop charger. IE every one I have ever owned also allowed you to stuff an extra battery in a slot to ...
