WOW! That's amazing!! 8O 8O :o :o :-)... :-)... I still think that TMO pushing their network to 42mbps is awesome but 168Mbps using commercial equipment is phenomenal! This just goes to show you that HSPA+ is a technology forced to be reckoned with. The one great thing that I really like about HSPA+ is the back-wards compatibility with 3G devices. No need to switch over to another frequency or anything, ...

I could say all kinds of hateful and funny things about VZW's recent outage  but, I can't. I'm too understanding for something like that. I'm not a VZW customer, nor am I an employee, but I do understand that from time to time you are going to have some kind of service interruption now and then. Technology is amazing, awesome, and unbelieveable.....when it works. Nothing on this earth is perfect...nothing! Not one phone, network, car, computer, ...

It all depends on what VZW 3G area you are in. Remember VZW has 2 types of 3G, 1xRTT and EVDO-Rev A. If you are in the 1xRTT area you might see speeds up to 400k, maybe. If you are in the EVDO area you will probably see them up to 1-1.5mbps. Remember when VZW and ATT were having that map war about the largest 3G? Its because they are totally different network tyes and different 3G experiences. EDGE ...

You know why? Most people have these services and they're afraid to hear the truth, because the truth hurts. Most people don't want to believe that. Jay, I have been on this site since 2005 and I have to say, you are probably the most realistic/knowlegeable poster on here. Everyone else just complains/slanders.

Check out www.ITU.com They are the International Telecommunications Union. They pretty much set the standard across the board. If it doesn't have "-Advanced" next to it, then its not true 4th Generation Technology. If you search 4G, you will see the results. If you still don't understand, there is a "layman's" terms link for ya.

The cool thing with HSPA+ and the type of tech they use is, its back-wards compatible. Which means, current 3G handsets can take advantage of the speeds without upgrading the handset or charging people $10 so they can use someone else's network. :D

Probably because they just say "What can you do with 4G?" And the average consumer thinks that its faster than other services.

And you do realize that Clear has about 50% less coverage than Tmo does with HSPA+. I have the G2 and I have seen speeds up to 12mbps. The device tops out at 14.4. Next year they are going to up the speeds to 42mbps and then 84mbps after that.

Right. There is really no need for speed faster than what the phone can process. Now if its running a hotspot or something like that, then it would be suffice. The major carriers that are rolling out these broadband networks are looking more toward mobile Internet for laptops and home networks. Take Tmo for instance. They have the largest and fastest HSPA+ network in the US and it can reach theoretical speeds of 21mbps. According to recent information, they ...

From what I have been seeing around the US, Tmo currently covers 100 million people with its HSPA+ network which has a theoretical throughput of 21mbps (which is faster than what Vz is talking about). Then Tmo is going to rollout HSPA++ which will double the 21mbps to 42mbps! I still dont believe there is a need for 42mbps on any handheld consumer device, let alone a laptop. It seems to me that Tmo is leading the speed war! ...

That is correct but, its not just GSM though. Its the GSM 3G band that makes this possible. Tmo and Att have seperate voice and data bands. To this day, If you use GSM and are on EGDE or GPRS, you cannot use voice and data at the same time.

What area are you in that Tmo is lagging in the dark ages? I live in an Ok area and I have HSPA+ and I hit around 3-5mbps on average with my Galaxy, which maxes out at 7.2mbps I have tested it against an EVO using WiMax and I ran just a tad over the EVO. When the G2 comes out it will have a theoretical throughput of 14.4mbps! :o

I will agree with Eric about getting the "o9" and the "P0" mixed up, it happens to me when I use the keyboard. I have seen a 3G network beat WiMax in Philly. It was T-Mobile's HSPA+ network. It was at some event where Clearwire was promoting their WiMax and T-Mobile was promoting their HSPA+ netowrk. They ran head to head and not only did T-Mobile's network run faster but it was more consistant and never lost a conn. It was funny because after the Clearwire rep saw that, he left. lol :o
